I was walking around the area test driving cars and thought I'd stop in and check this place out. The staff were super friendly. I chose to sit at the trendy bar. I Was thinking of getting a hot chocolate but decided to splurge and get a milkshake instead. It was divine and I'm looking forward to coming back here to dine. Seems like a great place for a date!

This was a cute little restaurant we found on our way to Guelph. Reviews on Google seemed alright so we decided to give it a shot. Unfortunately this place didn't show up on our Yelp search for some reason. The building itself is unique and cool. The staff were friendly and promptly sat us down. The restaurant wasn't too busy deposit showing up at 12:30pm on a Saturday. Menu is simple to navigate and a very good concept. This particularly stuck out as a positive and appreciated the simplicity. We were a party of 4. I ordered the hamburger and friends. My friends ordered the seafood sandwich and the other two ordered the salad and soup combo. Prices seemed to be reasonable as well. Firstly, I do like how they deliver food to the table. Food arrives on a cart all at once so no one has to wait. Nice touch. Secondly, the presentation is good. The soup and salad was served on nice slabs of wood. The burger arrived with a tower of potatoes which I found to be nice visually but unnecessary for the burger. My friend who ordered the soup and salad did seem to enjoy them though. My burger was almost indefinitely previously frozen. It didn't have the fresh ground beef vibe that I like and that is found at some of the good burger joints located in and around Ontario. The fires were great in texture but overly salted in my opinion. I tried the cream of mushroom and Stilton soup and it was ok. Definitely not worth writing home about. For a 'cream of' type soup, it wasn't creamy enough, although the deliciousness of Stilton did add flavour to the soup. The salad was sad. The fistful of lettuce was almost positively taken out of a bag and just plopped on the wooden board. Nothing but lettuce covered (overly) in a balsamic vinaigrette. While the price was right, the quality of the food, that we had anyway, was mediocre at best. With that said, there are a lot of positives about this place but unfortunately, the only thing that was lacking was the food.

One of the better meals I've had in a long time. Had the steak special which was a NY strip with cheddar and truffle bacon smashed potatoes and green beans. Everything was cooked to perfection. Steak was great and the veggies tasted crisp and fresh. My wife had the macaroni and cheese which was also very good. Very cheesy, fresh noodles and a nice crumb topping. For dessert we had the table side s'mores. What an awesome finish! Fresh marshmallows with chocolate bark, fruit and graham crackers. Roasting your own and making it yourself added to the fun. Highly recommend York Road!

Went here for dinner with my boyfriend! The place was very spacious, especially booths. I was told to make a reservation if I were to dine here on Friday or Saturday night. The place was packed, and in fact, people who did not make a reservation had to wait. Quick and friendly service and great food overall! I ordered lamb shank and my boyfriend ordered chocolate pasta (we were very curious to taste it). Meat was tender and liked the sauce (tomato-y but not that chocolate-y as I had hoped for). Chocolate flavor did not really stand out in the pasta dish either, well I guess they don't want to overpower the entire dish with chocolate flavor. We shared a chocolate molten lava cake for dessert, and it was on point! I strongly recommend trying it. I would recommend this place to anyone if he/she is intrigued by the theme and unique dishes they serve here!

    Goat's Cheese Torta was delicious!

This review is based solely on the delivery and food rather then an in-dining experience. I used York Rd for a business lunch and was thankfully able to order from their dinner takeout menu. Staff that took my order was helpful; however I'm assuming since I called during a busy time (and they may have been short-staffed), I had to call back to complete my order (which I wasn't entirely fond of but I'm not going to complain on that). Food was delivered on time and although slightly smaller in quantity for the price, was pretty good. The goat's cheese torta and their chocolate desserts in particular were amazing. Being a restaurant with a heavy focus on chocolate, I am definitely planing to try their other chocolate-based menu items and desserts next time and dine in to catch a full experience.

    S'mores hot chocolate

The chocolate shell pasta was good but it wasn't hot when served. The centre of the lava cake was fully baked (not liquid anymore), and was a bit too sweet for us. The dark chocolate fudge cake was really good!

Been here many times. It's our favorite spot in Guelph. We go out of our way to come here. The food, the ambiance, the service is excellent. Chef has taken extra care in selecting the dishes for the York Rd Kitchen. The dishes are traditional infused with fun. With a passion for chocolate, Chef adds some interesting chocolate spice to some of the dishes. I've had the chocolate rubbed Sirloin Steak on a previous visit. Very good! Our last visit was at lunch time and the food was wonderful. I had the pulled beef brisket, in a light sauce, on a toasted bun with an onion ring in the sandwich. Slow Cooked Brisket, Garlic Mayo Asiago Cheese, House Slaw & Onion Rings. Fantastic! To accompany my sandwich I had the soup of "du-jour", a carrot puree infused with ginger root and a dollop of coconut milk. The soup had a bit of a kick to it, but it was soothing and warm. My wife enjoyed the traditional Ruben Melt Sandwich, Pastrami, Sauerkraut, Cheese, Aioli on Rye with a side Caesar and my lovely daughter had the Chicken & Mushrooms (without the mushrooms) The pasta dish has Spinach, Basil Pesto Cream Sauce, Shaved Cheese, Fettuccine Noodles. Delish! Everything was perfect! The service was excellent. The kitchen prides itself on made to order. Want something special, just ask. Well done Karim and Sara! As General Douglas MacArthur, said "I shall return!".. with the rest of the gang... If you want wonderful food with great service, then "Un-Chain Yourself" and go to The York Kitchen and Chocolate Bar.

Sirloin and potato spiral. Looked 10x better than it tasted

Came here for dinner last night with my family. We had to wait a very long time for our drinks and our food even though we were there before the place packed up. I ordered the yrk bacon Caesar to drink, which was very flavorful. My steak, however was barely seasoned. It was cooked quite nicely but the lack of seasoning really ruined it for me. The accompanying fries were quite nice, however the potato spiral had no salt at all and was cold and dry. The savory chocolate sauce tasted quite nice but it had clearly been sitting out for a while as it was cool and had a skin on top. I finished my meal with a spiced hot chocolate which was absolutely delicious. I don't think I would ever go here again for dinner, but my dessert and cocktail were both quite delectable. Unfortunately the two beverages did not make up for the wait time or the barely palatable meal.

Served raw pork and reheated it and put back on the same plate. Except for one server, did not seem to take it seriously

The Boathouse - high tea spread for two on the patio

    The Boathouse

Great location and customer service…read more Scones: Decent. A little sweet (which I like), served with whipped cream and strawberry jam. Fruit: The fruit was the best part of all our meals here. It was so fresh and sweet, which I thought would be difficult to find outside of California! I also enjoyed it with cottage cheese, which is not so common at breakfast spots in California unfortunately. Tea: The tea is enjoyable but pretty average when compared to bougier tea spots like The Bruce in Stratford. It's not clear how long I should let it steep for for optimal flavor. I preferred the Winter Dream green tea, which was warm and cozy, slightly sweet. I also preferred the McCrae over the Boathouse blend. The Boathouse blend was a little basic for me, and the McCrae had a slight sweetness that I enjoyed. High Tea: Average - a good price and pleasant experience, especially if the weather is nice enough to eat outside (and catch a bald eagle flying by!). My favorite dessert was the carrot cake cupcake. Ice Cream: Yes, ice cream and tea is definitely a good idea! The banana cream pie tastes like your classic Runts banana flavor (the original banana that got wiped out) and the black cherry has plenty of big cherry pieces. Great servings, and we loved that they served them in reusable bowls instead of disposable ones. Would definitely come again!

I was taking a stroll through the neighbourhood with my family on one of our evening walks and…read morealong the path, we discovered a new restaurant which was Crepes and Coffee. It's situated along the busy Paisley & Imperial intersection underneath an apartment complex. I knew I had to return here in the afternoon for lunch. The inspiration behind this restaurant draws from a couple's dining experience in Europe. Here's my rundown: Food: We started off with the Coffee for Two, which came on a serving platter with a French press, 2 wafers, and 2 shots of Perrier water. The coffee was rich and it made for a unique experience with the French press. Florence - We then had one of their savoury crepes called the Florence. You had the option of getting this as a crepe or a waffle and it came drizzled with a light cream sauce, seasoned with salt, pepper & oregano. The filling had melted mozzarella and prosciutto and it was finished with field greens, cherry tomatoes, and a balsamic glaze. Overall, this was a pretty light dish! The crepe itself was slightly sweet and had a nice texture to it. Annecy - We finished with a Belgian waffle with ice cream. This came with French vanilla ice cream, strawberries, sliced bananas, nutella drizzle, and whipped cream. The presentation was beautiful and the dessert tasted very good and it wasn't too sweet. I would suggest sharing this with people as it's a little too much for one person to devour. Atmosphere: The overall vibe of the restaurant is nice. The decor is quite modern and there's a blackboard that showcases famous landmarks and places in Europe, which is the inspiration behind this restaurant. There's patio seating, high chair seating, and normal seating. There's a section that features one low-rise table and three chairs that's perfect for catching up with friends. All in all, I would say that this restaurant gives up vibes that make you feel relaxed and at home, which is what you should always feel at places like this one. Service: Service was good. The barista was really knowledgeable in the food items and recommended us all the things we ordered. The food didn't take long to come out and the barista kept checking up on us to see how we the food was and how are dining experience was. Price: The coffee for two was $7.00, savoury crepe was $12.75, and the waffle was $13.75 (it's an additional one dollar to get the waffle instead of the crepe). The price isn't too bad, especially given the great service. Verdict: Whether you're doing a stroll in the neighbourhood, catching up with friends, or just plain hungry, Crepes & Coffee is your one stop shop. They've been in business for 4 weeks now and our in the midst of experimenting with food options (they recently just introduced the savoury crepes). The west end of Guelph isn't quite known for its food or desserts so this place was definitely a nice addition to a area that's lacking desserts like crepes. Check this place out before it gets busy. One thing that you must bring is your credit or debit card as Crepes & Coffee makes an effort to try to reduce the amount of physical cash used and also went paperless. I'm giving this a 4.5 stars out of 5 mainly because of the great service, the atmosphere inside the restaurant, and the taste of the food. My two complaints are that they don't open earlier than 10am and their savoury crepe options are limited. Nevetheless, it's great to see the West End of Guelph growing when popping restaurants like this one.
