Since we did not know enough to evaluate the proposal he provided after his review, we talked with someone we knew who was volunteering with a climate advocacy group in this area. He suggested we contact Mohammed at Home Energy Solutions for an energy audit. We did so and were able to schedule it very quickly with Mohammed spending a great deal of time doing a thorough inspection of our three attics and our many windows and doors. We were surprised at just how bad the situation was in general air leakage, in the ductwork, and in the insulation over one part of our house where, from the pictures Mohammed took, it looked like a raccoon had gotten into the attic and torn up the insulation. When Mohammed sent us a contract to fully insulate our three attics, removing the insulation in parts, sealing the edges and around lights, and more, and we had a ton of questions, he promptly responded with clarifying information and willingness to adjust the work and add on caulking our windows and weatherstripping a door and more. Also, the price was most reasonable -- significantly less than the other company with more items included. He then scheduled the work at our convenience and his team of three, led by Eric, arrived promptly at 8 AM and worked hard until 5:30 pm. In the 53 years we have been in the house we have done about five major remodeling jobs/additions, and a whole bunch more of minor improvements. We have been very happy with most of the firms and workers, and a couple less so. Of all the crews that have worked in our home, Eric and his team were outstanding in every way -- so helpful, courteous, hardworking, quiet, neat, patient in answering questions, and so much more!!! They cleaned up afterwards and it was great to wake up this morning and feel the notable difference in the especially leaky part of the house. We cannot say enough good things about HESS -- Mohammed, Eric and the other technicians!!! And, we are looking forward to significantly lower energy costs. If you want a great job, at a reasonable price, HESS is the place to go!

Please beware of this company. I had a solar system installed on my house in 2016. I went in with…read morea solar co-op and Edge was the winner of the bulk purchase. They installed SunPower panels which a couple of my friends in the solar industry thought was a little high end for such a simple job. One was quoted as saying these were the Mercedes Benz of panels and shouldn't need something this expensive for a simple roof installation. I didn't think much of it at the time. Fast forward to current day. I went through a major renovation and added a new roof (and new direction). I contacted Edge in March to talk to them about getting a reinstallation. It took multiple weeks to get pricing for a simple 19 panel reinstall and I got into contract with Edge in mid April. It is now the last day of July (3 1/2 months later) and I was just notified that they still haven't submitted the plans to get a permit. In DC, I'm guessing that it will be multiple weeks/months more to get approval of the permits once they are submitted. Every time I email, I don't receive a response for at least a week. I've called multiple times now asking for someone in management to give me a call to discuss. Crickets. I wish I had the option to go with another company but given the Sunpower panels, no other company in DC will do the install due to the specialization needed to install Sunpower electrical wiring.

During the inspection they also provided water flow management devices for our showers, replaced bulbs with LED, and installed a smart surge protector in our media room. The report they provided gave us recommendations for insulation, tuneup, and other installations to help improve our HVAC efficiency. The quote included prices and rebates available. We easily selected the options we wanted and scheduled the work. It was a fraction of the cost if we had engaged contractors without going through the energy audit. They managed the rebate process and we only had to pay the remaining balance. We had blown-in and spray foam insulation done in our attic. Once this was complete, Zero Draft retested and showed that the install increased our efficiency by over 20%. I can actually feel and see the difference. It's noticeably warmer inside. Our roof used to have frost on half and not on the other half because so much heat was rising up. After they installed our insulation the entire roof stays frosty and more f the heat stays in our living spaces. They even got into spaces I never thought were accessible!

This is a second review for Alligood Energy. On my first review (about a year ago), I had…read moreinsulation blown into my ceiling. I saw a big difference in the warmth of my second floor, but my rooms were still drafty. Mainly because the walls needed to be insulated as well. Really getting tried of a cold drafty house, I decided to bite the bullet and give Alligood Energy another call. Andrew answered! He saw that I was a repeat customer and remembered me and my home. He didn't have to come back a second time to give me a price and honored the quote he gave from last year and even gave me a discount for being a repeat customer! We made a date for the installation into the walls. The problem with having this project done in the winter is contingent on the weather. The temperature has to be above freezing so the foam insulation can flow. This particular day we were good to go and something happened to their equipment and unfortunately the work had to be postponed. I was real disappointed because we had moved furniture and had to clear out any closets that was connected to an outside wall. Andrew was great! He sincerely apologized, put me as a top priority (making sure I was first on his list when the equipment got fixed) and gave me and additional discount for my inconvenience! He called in a few days to let me know everything was fixed. They came out the next day first thing in the morning. They laid down plastic over all my furniture. Moved anything that still needed to be moved. Like I referenced in my first review, they had to put nickel size holes in all the walls that were getting the insulation blown in. They were all moving ( 4 men) like a well oiled machine. It took exactly 3 hours for them to finish my 3 bedrooms, living room, dining room and kitchen walls. Even moved and got behind my dishwasher. They went back and plastered all the holes that they made. They also took up all the plastic and cleaned up after themselves. Now we just have to paint :( My home is much warmer now and hopefully more cool in the summer with the air conditioner. I highly recommend this company because their prices are fair, they are respectful of your home, they communicate well with their customers and are friendly and very professional.

This was the first estimate I ever paid for but it saved us thousands. We had Alligood do an…read moreassessment in order to quote us a price to insulate and spray foam a 1960s house. What we got from the estimate was a thorough review (including a thermal imager) of our house and a lot of pointers where we could make cheap improvements (such as sealing cinder block in the basement). He also noted that many of our main and lower level walls were too thin to really make spray foam air sealing worthwhile (and that many weren't losing much heat at all). In the end, we insulated our attic and air sealed the upstairs walls at a much lower price. The job was done well, and the difference in temperature was day and night. There were a lot of holes to patch (and the patch work they did left some to be desired) but it was worth it. The only reason for knocking a star off was the work was subcontracted, with nobody telling us up front that would be the case. I would just prefer to know if the guys selling the product are with the same company doing the work.
