So disappointed! We had ordered takeout from this place last November and had no issues. At that time we were feeding 15! Went there tonight to dine in with two small children. Our food took about an hour!!!! After about 40 min, I asked if food was coming and was told that a party of 16 had ordered before us. If there were 16 ppl in that restaurant-including staff, I would have been surprised! Our order took WAY too long. Nothing unusual: cheese curds that I was assured were squeaky- tasted and felt like tempura battered mozzarella, pork fried rice like nothing I have ever tasted- like it had lemon juice in it and a Hibachi platter for two but it only had one eggroll. I don't think I have ever written a negative review of this type but we were very disappointed. After 10-15 min, the waitress should have come over to us with some reason for the delay of food but she didn't. We saw people who came in after us already eating. We won't be back. This place has been open for 60 years but I can't imagine they have been serving this food for all that time. read more

we stopped today for a lunch. it was very disappointing. the food was very salty, we left most of the rice on the plate. the menu said chicken was available but at 1:00 they were out of chicken. the taste of the fried egg roll and the rangoons was off, both very oily and odd tasting. This was the saddest "Asian" restaurant I have ever been to. Came in for a late lunch before we hit the road and we truly regret not leaving while waiting 15 mins for the waitress. Udon soup - they no longer offered this so we opted for the house special "homemade" soup which tasted like it came out of a can. Miso soup - was nasty, didn't come out hot or anything. Hibachi platter for two - not what I thought it was, instead it came out with multiple samples of appetizers. Wings, beef, Kushi, egg rolls, fried shrimp. Kushi and Osoba soup - it was the saddest bowl ever. Came out looking like crushed up ramen noodles. This bowl should have been $1 instead it was $12. Tempura chicken luncheon - didn't look anything like tempura. Tempura is chopped into bit size pieces. It also came with a dinner roll, lol ? Sauteed vegetables - is what you can find in an egg roll. Kushi fried rice and sweet and sour chicken - not what you're thinking, sweet and sour is not fried chicken pieces that comes with the red dipping sauce. This is skinless chicken in some sort of sour sauce. Fried rice is not fried rice, it was very bland. Looks like it came out of a box or something. The kushi are like fried chicken tenders on a skewer with onions in between. You're better off going to the McDonald's down the road, this is definitely not authentic. Yokohama's stinks. But I'll be back. On my last visit to Yokohama's ...... Ridiculous hours. Miserable Hostess. Waitress with an attitude. Mediocre food. Silly oriental atmosphere. Uncomfortable seating. Mostly a geriatric clientele. Noisy old folks. But, but, but, Yokohama's makes the best Mai Tai that I have ever had. Wow! Don't try and drive after having two. Relax a while first. Sit a spell and kick your shoes off. Sober up Dudes and Dudettes! Do a pot of coffee and a chocolate sundae. The waitress was miserable but she condescended to taking an order for coffee and a special request for dessert at nearly 2:00 pm (that is closing time in the afternoon....that is a stupid closing time). Sorry, I digressed. Way, way, way, good coffee. The sundae was ugly, rather sloppy, but way fantastic. I asked for two cherries on top of the whipped cream and I got two cherries. Forget whatever your pre-conceived expectation of what you think Japanese food is and enjoy the local favorite restaurant for many decades running. Just went there for dinner. This place is absolutely horrible. Not only did it take 45 minutes for my food to get to me when it finally did I got spare ribs they were ranted meat was bad I'm guessing for at least three days the soup straight out of a can, not even Campbell's either. I also got eggrolls and they were so over fried that they just tasted like cardboard. The hot mustard was laughable. The prices were ridiculous but the waitress was cool. Saturday my husband and I along with five other couples gathered at Yokohama for our annual early Christmas get-together. This tradition has spanned nearly four decades and has a special place in our hearts due to our positive experience there. However, our recent visit took an unexpected turn. The first couple from our group arrived early at 5:15 PM and was informed that they couldn't be seated until all 12 of us had arrived with the suggestion to wait in their car or lobby. At 5:45 PM they returned and informed the hostess that our entire party was present. To our surprise, we were told that the Yokohama had a waiting list, and our party was considered too large to accommodate. Our friend asked if this meant we were being asked to leave, to which the hostess responded with a disinterested shrug of her shoulders, leaving the decision up to us. It was evident that no effort was made to accommodate our group, and as a result had no choice but to take our business elsewhere. We had to make reservations at a different establishment for our annuaI gathering next year. I must express my disappointment in this experience, all of us are long-standing patrons of the Yokohama. Our loyalty to your restaurant has been unwavering, but this incident has given us pause and left us with a sense of disappointment. We expected better from the Yokohama, and this experience has left us questioning whether we will return in the future. read more

But I've found nothing on their menu that indicates any connection to Japanese food. No sushi. No Nabe Yaki Udon soup. Any review over 2 stars is from a local resident who has likely eaten here their whole life. The fact that the sign outside still says "Oriental and American Food" should give you a hint as to what you are in for. The fare is a northern NH take on Asian food. The Kushi Tonkatsu is probably the most legendary item on the menu, and stands out as a bright point, especially with "Bulldog" sauce. The Mai Tai's are also locally renowned, and two is enough to get you a DUI on your way home. Portions are huge, but the food is mostly bland and greasy. Last time I went there I got the spare ribs and fried rice combo. It was a stupid amount of food and I rolled out of there regretting my decision and feeling really gross. It's really a shame this local fixture has not updated their menu or techniques in the last 40 years. If you're from out of town, probably go someplace else, or exercise extreme caution in your ordering. Good luck! read more

My wife and I always go out of our way to visit the Yokahama when visiting the White Mountains. A lot of negative reviews from clowns who couldn't get takeout. A form of praise for the food if you think about it. I guess the clowns think that everyone else should be inconvenienced because they're too attached to their hovels to dine out. read more

They put me and my girlfriend in a back room where we were stained at and when we left nothing was different. Took the food to go because of this tossed half of it and gave the rest to our dog. Have been going here all my life when up in the White Mountains. It's definitely it's own type of food. The fried rice isn't like any other I have ever had, but is really tasty. Its not quite Chinese, not quite Japanese, not quite Polynesian. Its just damn good, and it's hiding up in Gorham, NH. If you go, get an order of Kishi Katu, wich is basically chicken katsu on a stick. The fact that I've never seen an Asian person working there is probably why its such a blend of styles. read more

Udon dish looked like leftovers scraped from several other dishes, tasted similar, and actually had hamburger in it. Can't make this stuff up, hamburger. The fried rice tasted like Mexican rice. When we complained that the food was nasty, their response was "it's an acquired taste." They didn't have sriracha sauce or yum yum sauce. My husband and I stopped by here after an afternoon of riding around on an ATV. We really only wanted a snack and a drink. We ended up ordering the PuPu for 2 and a couple of drinks. The food was cooked a bit different than we usually see but it was far better. The chicken fingers were awesome with a crunchy coating instead of the oil soaked batter. The people who work here are the real treasure. The two waitresses we chatted with were incredibly friendly and so helpful getting to know the local lay of the land, especially in regards to using ATV's in the area. This is to even off some of the good reviews. I am a chef and foodie...this was an interesting place that's been in business for reportedly 50 years (!). It's not Japanese, it's not American or Chinese either. It's just not tasty and really has no rhyme or reason. Food was not edible. Staff was friendly however and seemed almost apologetic for what came out on the plate.
