    Hibachi steak
    Rose M.

Came in on a weekday and it was fairly busy. At first glance, tbh,, I almost left after being seated. I had the feeling service would be slow. However, once the waitress came, she was pleasant and did mention they were busy. Despite being busy, dishes came out fairly fast. I had the ocean roll that was the special for the night. It hard calamari in it. All rolls are prepared superbly! The gyoza was delicious as well. My hubby loved his hibachi meal of steak. The steak melted in your mouth. I would definitely return here!

Excellent sushi a nice atmosphere. The crazy boy roll was one of my favorites. All the rolls were great, and some were huge. Service was fast. We were the only group there at an off time, but our server was very attentive. They do have a few extremely large hibachi tables. The only reason it wasn't a 5 star I would have done 4 1/2 was the crab Rangoons had hardly any filling, and the Mai Tai's had a funny taste. The rolls also came out one after another on separate plates, so we had to keep consolidating to try and make room. I have no problem waiting a few more minutes, so they all come out together. Overall, some of the best rolls I've had in an out of the way place, and we've eaten all over the country and Caribbean.

A solid place to get hibachi or sushi. When you first arrive, this restaurant can look at little iffy, once you get inside the decor is nice enough. It is a small restaurant, but some of their tables are in rooms that appear semi private, and a definite Japanese aesthetic to them. We went for lunch on a Saturday, it was not busy and there appeared to only be two people working. The service was not slow, but we did have to specifically ask for a couple of things I would have thought to be automatic (soy sauce dish to hold soy sauce for the sushi, the sauces that normally get served with your hibachi). Due to not actually getting hibachi from the grill but rather from the kitchen, you could taste the propane used on the wok in the dish. The sushi was fresh and tasty, no issues there, though there did seem to be a love of spicy mayo even when the description didn't say it would be there, so if that's not for you, you'd have up likely ask for no spicy. The only other detriment was that the hibachi came with clear soup, not miso, and that tasted like some beef broth with a few slices of mushroom floating in it. Bottom line: while not a five- star restaurant, you'll be able to get good food at a decent price.

The service could use some work as the orders were brought into the general area and shouted out so you had to claim your plate which is pretty off putting. The ambiance is typical Japanese steakhouse style, a bit dark but appears clean. The food was decent but the sushi was great! Will definitely be returning for more sushi.

    Spicy Santa Roll

The spicy Santa is definitely my favorite sushi roll. The hibachi meals could be better but definitely the best in the area. The rice wasn't very good but the steak and shrimp were cooked perfectly. Environment doesn't feel super clean but good Japanese food is so limited in the area that I consider Kouzoku a win and I will be returning. It seems family run so wait staff are young and don't necessarily have the customer service skills one would expect in a restaurant but I do love that I'm supporting a small business when I eat there.

This is a sushi nightmare! I was super hungry and craved for sushi, but couldn't finish this small box of sushi. All sushi were lukewarm and not fresh. All of them had weird smell. Tuna has slight discoloration at the edge, and salmon texture is horrible. I just cannot risk my life for salmon, so didn't eat it. White fish I dont know what it is, it tastes so weird. I just don't know what to say. It is just weird and not fresh. Don't order sushi or sashimi here if you value your life.

Not for an epicurean. Worst Japanese food I've ever had. Hands down. Miso soup is a disrespect to Japanese culture.

Heh...and it seems I finished my meal and got up and left before I finished my review. I had vegetable yaki udon (which my phone heard as "vegetable yucky udon" ) and edamame. I enjoyed both. It was not an "Oh my dog!" swooning experience, but it was good. The woman who seated and served me initially did indeed disappear entirely about halfway through my meal; happily, a gentleman in a flannel shirt and down vest took over for her, coming over to ask if everything was alright and, upon my request, to refill my drink. The woman, I believe, has a reputation for not doing those things, but I was taken care of despite her negligence. (This is also the woman who insists that the customer sign the credit card receipt produced after they use tap-to-pay with their phone...one of the whole reasons for the existence of which mechanism is that it's touchless...meaning that you don't have to touch your credit card, you don't have to touch the credit card reader, and you don't have to touch a pen, because, as it says right at the bottom of the receipt in bold capital letters, "NO SIGNATURE REQUIRED". But this woman will not allow the customer to attempt to cloud the issue with facts, insisting instead that the very reason you must sign the receipt is that you used tap-to-pay with your phone. Okay. Whatever.) Anywho...I had a nice meal. And I was surprised to hear what sounded, to my distorted hearing, like 90's shoegaze playing over the sound system. (I think I have the genre right there - it was reminiscent of Cocteau Twins and that sort of thing. And I'm sure I heard Morrissey in there too. Unexpected almost anywhere these days, and definitely so, and kind fun, in an Asian restaurant.)

It's not authentic Japanese, it's an interpretation of Japanese by Chinese workers and Cooks. Also, Chinese service isn't great and the waiter here isn't attentive and a bit too casual for my taste. The food itself is just acceptable, and for the price not great. The atmosphere also still is pretty weak, and the restaurant is small. It's sort of almost like a hole on the wall. On the West Coast, I've eaten at over 30 authentic Japanese restaurants, and for those of you who aren't Japanese restaurant or sushi aficionados... This food is probably fine. I skeptically thought "how good could sushi be in New Hampshire and especially if not run by Japanese folks?" I was glad to be proven wrong! We ordered a variety of different kinds of sushi rolls and sashimi and everything was super fresh and delicious, including the following types of rolls: avocado, california, shrimp tempura, tuna. We also ordered the bi bim bap in the hot stone bowl which was good, not the very best I've ever had (comparing to eating dolsot bibimbap in Seoul, HMarket food markets), but we ate almost all of it and took the rest for leftovers which were polished off the next day, so perhaps even very good! The meals all came with complimentary banchan (small side dishes) of cold bean sprouts, broccoli, pickled spicy zucchini, flavored boiled peanuts (my least favorite banchan), and miso soup. Loved the bean sprouts and broccoli and they brought us more when we finished the first round. Next time we're in Hanover we'll visit Sushiya again for sure!
