Me and my partner ate at the blue canoe this past 4th of July weekend. Even though it was busy we were able to get sat and greeted right away. The service was great and everyone there was super friendly. We both were in the mood for seafood so I got the whole branzino and he got the grilled rainbow trout. For the price I felt like the whole branzino was slightly on the small side and I wish it came with more greens to sit on. Second trip back. Can't beat the location so that's a 5/5. Service still good. Had the oyster platter comes w only three and tonight's selection was Goose ledge ME oysters. This is a small oyster not briny and overall just ok. Priced at $4/piece so maybe I was paying for gas prices as it really wasn't worth it. Came w one lemon wedge and mignonette. Clam chowder was good. Not as creamy as I like coming from MA but it was tasty. Nice clam to potato ratio. Entree was seared tuna w choice of 2 sides. I downgraded my rating as on my last visit they allowed us to place Cajun seasoning on the chicken sandwich but this visit they up charged for $2, which is absurd considering it's offered as a choice on fish plus it's $20 to begin with so that was very disappointing. Especially, since I dropped over $130 for two people. Overall, definitely a beauty place to eat so stop by if you have a chance. read more

I would give 4.5 stars if I could... What's stopped me from rating this a 5? Well, the service was a LITTLE off. But I attribute this to the fact that the bartender was training somebody new (and we were sitting at the bar because there were no tables available). The fact that there were no tables available is entirely our fault, the fact that the bartender was busy training somebody new was only slightly off-putting. The ambiance, lakefront dining was incredible. But here again, only SLIGHTLY off-putting, was the fact that the sliding glass doors were not wide open on this beautiful August day. I think the breeze off the lake would've been better than the air conditioning. I'm stretching a little bit for the negatives... the positives were too numerous to mention all of them. Simply put, the food was amazing. Totally unexpected for a small town in Sunapee, New Hampshire. Our dishes, from the appetizers to the main courses were totally unexpected, in a very positive way. I wish I took more pictures. But we were busy enjoying our food. I will come back to this place in a heartbeat. Highly recommended! read more

A definite upgrade to the Sunapee Harbor waterfront. The nice blue colors lend a great tone to this recreation. The Maître d' was certainly officious... not even a good day, good afternoon, or even a go to hell. Certainly and genuinely rude. Oftentimes the Maître d' is responsible for creating a welcoming atmosphere and managing reservations at a restaurant, meaning they are the first impression on the customer. Not this one. In our time here, the only person who would need training on customer treatment. But that shouldn't ruin a good evening, and the rest of our time here was superb. The staff, one noted exception, was superb. Smiles, excellent service and great food. Our waitperson was Erin, just a breath of fresh air. I was pleasantly surprised seeing waitpersons assist each other picking up tables and cleaning before the next course. Awesome work. I had the Salmon Poke which was delicious. It is indeed raw but well condimented and delicious. My other half had the chicken kimchi bowl and this too was amazing. We washed it down with two Sauvignon Blancs as dessert was coming. Labor Day and attempting to spend a bit more time at Sunapee before leaving and stumbled upon this gem... Mussels w/ shrimp and fries disappeared before they could pose for a pic (they were amazing btw) as was the corn-bread. Maine Lunch on-tap was also a great bonus. Key-lime tart with strawberry sauce and coconut was also quite amazing. Don't overlook this as a great stop at the Marina on Sunapee. read more

We are so excited the Blue Canoe is here! The food was fantastic, service was fantastic and so happy to be sitting on the water in Sunapee harbor. There was a 40 minute wait (Thursday at 6:45p in the summer) but we went to Hoptimystic and had a beer...then our table was ready. My daughter had the oysters and I had the salmon poke. We ate every last bite! So happy they are busy! We'll be back, like tonight again for dinner! read more

My husband had fried clams which he said was good my daughter had salmon poke bowl, she thought the salmon was supposed to be blackened so she was disappointed. They both had marguerites which they did not really like, my Luna wine was great. I did not like the paper on the plate especially with the coleslaw I was picking wet pieces of paper out of my mouth . I would recommend serving coleslaw in a separate dish. Ketchup also soaks through and causes paper to break up . All in all i would recommend the Blue Canoe read more

Shocked this has so many stars. Great location at the site of the Anchorage but food and pricing not the best. I had scallops and the fries were cold. Asked for fresh ones (which were luke warm at best) and was charged $6.50. Scallops themselves quite good as was the heavily peppered coleslaw. I can't say I won't go back (because it is in a prime location) but I also can't rave like I wished I could've based on our experience. A highlight was my old fashioned (makers mark, $15). We're local, have wanted to go there for a while, and really wanted to like it. There are a couple of reasons we hadn't gotten there until now: the menu didn't really appeal to us at that price point, and we weren't sure about the atmosphere. We don't mind paying $16 for an appetizer or $32 for a main if it tastes great and we can't make it better at home. The crab dip was too sweet and didn't taste like crab (though it had some decent kick). The shrimp in the shrimp bowl were very good, but the bowl itself was drowning in pickled ginger. I like pickled ginger, but a little goes a long way. The swordfish special was expertly cooked, very nicely plated, interesting chutney, with a swirl of mashed potatoes (would it have broken the bank to add a dollop on the side?) Atmosphere? I mean, the harbor view is clearly a big draw (even on a chilly winter night), but it still looks like a 60's shack with a new coat of paint. It does not look or feel like an upscale restaurant. I get what they're trying to do - they have to balance the cost of the location with the cost of food and the cost of labor against a very short tourist season, so it has to be 'upscale' prices to make that work. But right now, they don't have that balance quite right. There's potential, so we will keep looking at their menu and their specials list (as we really want them to succeed in being a place we'll like to frequent), but tonight was a disappointment on food and atmosphere. Service? Perfect tonight - no complaints. They were attentive, graceful, pleasant and did the right thing even when we didn't ask. They seem to have that part down. read more

It's been a bit since I've written a review. Perhaps, it's because I have not been anywhere exceptional of late. That changed today. We arrived in Sunapee and were greeted with the choice of about three choices in restaurants (Lest we drive a ways). We looked at the menu and it had some good stuff on it so we decided to go at lunch there. They have a lovely deck on the water, but we wanted an indoor table today. They sat us at a nice table near a window, and as we began to sit I noticed that there was a speaker next to it. I have sensory issues and as I was debating whether or not I could stand being next to it (it was moderate volume and most could) the lady at the front (felt like an owner) noticed my consternation and offered us another table. She even pushed two tables together to make it as large as that one and was (we were set up to play a game of "Forest Shuffle" over lunch and needed the real estate). Score one for the place for being so aware of the customer and their needs. Score another for the customer extra accommodations. The waitress was delightful and attentive. Score another point. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich. My partner ordered the coconut shrimp bowl. My partner's meal was great. A perfect portion of shrimp and mango with a dollop of sticky rice. She enjoyed it. My chicken salad was very imaginative. A well thought out dill chicken salad. Large chunks of celery. Apple slices over the lot. Well spiced. Gracing this were four pieces of thick toasted bread smeared with a Parmesan/garlic cheese spread. It was delicious. The place had a great crowd even at 1:30, there were people coming in. Everyone was treated kindly and attentively. Also of note-they didn't rush us away (we would have left faster if we thought we were taking a seat from someone). I imagine that they give that kind attention to all shifts and all meals. Given this, I would recommend this place anytime, for any breakfast, lunch, or dinner. I will say-we almost didn't go in because we thought it was a little pricey when we first arrived (we're pretty frugal). Glad we fought that urge. Thank you for a lovely meal. read more

The Blue Crab Rangoon Gratin dip was deliciously creamy with a perfect taste of crab. It wasn't spicy, but we still loved it. Swordfish with lemon chimichurri, fingerling potatoes and market vegetables were divine. The market vegetables were local carrots and turnips cooked to perfection and we will definitely get the swordfish again. The scallop dish contained 5 scallops (smaller than sea but larger than bay), a normal serving of delicious cole slaw, and way too many french fries in an attempt to make it look like a huge plate of food. The scallops were rubbery. The Clam dish was no different. About 4-5 clams (hard to tell as they were in pieces) Delicious cole slaw and way too many french fries. we are locals and we were super looking forward to trying the blue canoe for our first time tonight. when we arrived to the restaurant they told us it would be a 45 minute wait for our outdoor table. we made it clear that we wanted to be sat outside and would wait longer if needed to be sat there. we expected the wait (as they don't take reservations (we called ahead) and they were the hot new spot in town). After the full 45 minute wait we were texted our table was ready. The hostess showed very little enthusiasm for her job and did not smile once. she sat us at an indoor table. we kindly reminded her that we would happily wait longer for an outdoor table, but that it was important to us that we sit outdoors. she told us that there were no outdoor tables available. I let her know it would have been nice to know this before we waited for 45 minutes. we are now driving to dine at a different local restaurant. we were so disappointed to not be able to try this new restaurant and even more disappointed in the lack hospitality demonstrated by the staff. read more
