Love the feeling here. Slow Flow hot yoga is now my favorite thing. It's a very welcoming studio.

I've been coming here for the last year and half and quickly realized these yoga classes are just…read moremy style. YogaQuest is an amazing, welcoming community in Uptown for the nerdily-inclined. The teachers are totally accepting of whoever comes in the door and really focus on offering yoga for all, even if you don't have the stereotypical yogi body. They offer so many options and variations for every body, and it's a great place to come in as a total yoga newb because they break down poses so well. The classes are awesome and always find a way to put a fun and hilarious spin on a typical yoga class. Tuesday nights offered narrated yoga-alongs to everything from Star Wars to Lord of the Rings to Sherlock and the list goes on and on. On Saturdays, you can even show up in your pajamas and do some yoga and then watch your favorite cartoons with a bowl of cereal. But one of the best things about YogaQuest is the sense of community you'll find there. Within a class or two, you'll notice a lot of familiar faces, and YogaQuest prides themselves on not being a quiet, contemplative studio. There are jokes and stories constantly flying, people asking questions about poses and tons of laughter throughout. In other yoga classes I've been to, it's incredibly serious and you never talk to the person doing a pose next to you, even if you see them every week. At YogaQuest you'll receive a huge welcome when you walk in the door, whether you're brand-new or you've been there the day before. And their focus on nerd wellness means they're always somebody to geek out with about your favorite fandom before, during or after class.

(Also, I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the bathroom pro. It's so nice to have bathrooms right outside the studio. Easy access but you don't feel like you're in the middle of class with your pants down)

They also offer all props you could need at no extra cost. When you show up, it's at a (former?) church in the basement level. The teacher was wonderful and made the class a bit more personable by chatting with folks as they arrived and by providing a bit of her yoga story. They didn't have anything for people to use to indicate if they were open to adjustments/help, but the teacher asked before assisting anyone. Pricing: They have a great first class is free deal. Drop-ins are $16 and the monthly unlimited package is $76/pm. These prices are very good for Minneapolis! Parking: Street parking. This can get a little crowded on Sundays since the Yoga Sanctuary is located in a church. This is a five star review in general, but probably a four star review for me personally just because I prefer hot yoga and a parking lot.

It's a small fitness studio but it gets the job done most importantly. The only things I weren't a fan of was: * the lighting - it was either too bright or dark * no water fountain * lack of formal cubbies or coat rack to put your personal belongings * no formal lounge or rest area - only a couch The goods is the fitness instructors! They are energetic, positive and you can tell they enjoy leading the class. Pricing is affordable and there's a variety of classes to choose from! Also times of classes are awesome!

It wasn't easy at first -- Cathy's classes are vigorous, but she was able to catch my eye mid routien and show a modification if I was struggling (I've come to see that she regularly does that for others as well). Cathy's Zumba classes were just what I needed for regaining my energy and getting back in shape. I added her BodyFit classes which have help me add strength and muscle. In a little over a year I had lost 25 pounds by going to Cathy's studio and watching what I ate. Yes, my hair has grown back too....but I don't think Zumba had anything to do with that (tho Cathy did give me a lovely sweat band on my first day that doubled as a head scarf). CM's is a small studio but interestingly they are the first to offer many new exercise formats -- I go to Pound, PiYo, and MixFit when I have the time. The things that stand out to me about the studio is Cathy's strong background in fitness in general, her amazing energy and the friendliness and support of those taking classes. I had wonderful doctors and nurses getting me through cancer but it has been CM's Fitness where I have re-claimed my health.

A couple of places charge $20-22 per class and that's with a package. So, yes, please! TimeOut's barre classes are called "Behind Bars". I've only had Madeline so far. I find her a very effective fitness instructor. Even though the classes have 20-30 students, she scans the room and offers up corrections and modifications. This impresses me. I also liked the fact that there seemed to be a wide variety of ages in my barre classes rather than a bunch of 20 something year olds clad in Lululemon with fake tans unlike a certain yoga chain that I will not mention by name. I would recommend signing up for class online. Also, you get a "no show" charge if you sign up for a class but don't show up but this is pretty common with barre classes. I haven't taken the other classes yet, but I might take a pilates one to switch things up. The studio itself is also very, very nice. There are dressing rooms, hot towels, and tea. Reception area people are nice also! So, you have to sign up for an orientation which at first I was kind of bummed out. But, when I went to the orientation, I found it really helpful and the instructor seemed knowledgeable and interested in everyone. Orientation is only about 15-20 minutes so not really a biggie. I would recommend trying to fit your orientation in before a class you want to attend. I've also not had parking issues at this place either but I usually take the first class of the day.

Many great instructors here and the front desk team is good. It's the owner who ultimately pushed me away. I just could not continue to watch her chastise her instructors and clients during classes and disrespect her clients in the truly crazy emails she sends. She said she'd eject people from class if it was obvious they'd used scented laundry products! We all want to be healthy but bullying and treating us like children isn't motivating in the least. Fortunately, there are many other options in South MINNEAPOLIS.

Finding the class schedule online was a breeze along with creating a profile and registering. As a first time student, I received a text from the studio asking if I had any questions in advance to which I did not. Additionally, there is a slight nudge to check out 2-weeks for a little bit more money along with an email and text post class advertising the same. The studio has a parking lot on the side with about 10 spots (I made sure to go early to secure) otherwise I believe street parking is fair game. When I entered the spaces, I instantly felt community, ease and cleanliness. I adored all the green plants and how it felt relaxed and peaceful. Up Yoga offers 1 complimentary towel per visit, has cubbies inside the studio space vs. locks, there are two changing rooms resembling your standard fitting room, gender neutral bathrooms, 2 shower rooms and an array of props such as blocks, straps and bolsters. I found it really interesting that the studio didn't have mirrors but it was a nice change to not compare or judge during the practice. At the end of class, cold lavender towels were provided which felt perfect to place over my forehead and eyes during savasana. Thank you!
