If I didn't have Melody teaching from the start, I'm not sure that I would be as hooked on yoga as I am now! I love many sports, but try to find time for yoga as it helps my flexibility, agility, and my mood! With abellaYoga, the focus isn't only on the practice itself - it's what you can take from the practice into your daily life. Melody has taught me to try to live all moments to the fullest, and to really appreciate day to day presence of mind. I "avoided" yoga for many years - I always thought it was an "easy" workout. I didn't think I would be as satisfied as I am after a good weights session, or a nice run. Boy, I couldn't have been more mistaken. I get a great workout each time I see Melody, and I know her teachings are carrying over into my other fitness activities!

The slightest adjustment can take each pose or exercise to the next level. This is an overdue review but, I finally sat down to do it. In 2020 Mind Your Body Oasis became a…read morevery special place for me. Although I visited MYBO before 2020 a few times for different services I didn't realize what I had until it was taken away from me during the craziest year of my life. When I felt alone, depressed, anxious, sad, upset, confused and all the feelings that came with that crazy year I finally realized what I had. Once they opened back up after the pandemic, I signed up for a monthly package. I enjoyed the sauna and Thai Massage with Amanda so much that then led to me purchasing the yearly membership. I made sure that I would continue to keep this place close to me and commit myself to much needed self-care that my body needed. In 2021 I experienced a sudden death in the family - a person that I was close to. I knew I needed a massage to heal, but I found myself once again like I did in 2020, sad, depressed and lost. I finally booked my monthly appointment and I will never forget that night. Amanda gave me a Thai massage and I was able to release the emotions which I was experiencing. And now that brings me to this year 2022. Last week I was dealing with some family issues with a close sister. We both agreed to disagree on a relationship she is currently in. After months of not telling her how I felt, I finally did, only to face the fact that I may not speak to her again for a very long time. The next night I had an appointment with Amanda. She worked on me once again and helped me release all the emotions I was feeling and holding back. During this session, the Underground Shops lost electrical power. Amanda, another massage therapist, a yoga teacher, and a martial arts class were still open and available to their clients. Amanda always seems to know exactly what my body needs. She sometimes ends my massage with chimes, drum, sound healing, and fascia blasting. I don't know where I would be the past couple of years if it weren't for Amanda and the studio. I am so grateful to have them both in my life just when I needed them. I've also gotten really good massages from Kimberly and Muscular Manipulation from Eric. I highly recommend them both as well. If you've put off getting a massage here or taking advantage of the convenience of having a local infrared sauna don't put if off any longer. I sleep like a baby each time I use them together.

Oh what do I say about EYD and Erin…read more... Anyone who knows me, knows I LOVE beer. I also love yoga. So when I'm able to combine the two, well, it's pretty awesome for me. I had followed EYD's Facebook page for a while, but was never able to make it to a class. Finally the stars aligned (all 5 of them) and I took my very 1st EYD class at Fair Winds. Not to lay on the puns, but I was hooked (line and sinker). Since then I've been to Erin's classes at Sehkraft (RIP), Mister Days, Tysons Biergarten (RIP?), Courthaus Social, New District, and even DC Brau when she covered for another teacher. Erin's classes are truly all level. Some instructors will say they are, but then never give you variations on certain positions or chide you for sticking to your particular practice. Erin is not one of those teachers. She has this innate ability to make you feel comfortable and welcome. But my favorite thing about her classes is the cheese factor. She makes jokes and silly comments...example at the Spookasana class (that's Halloween themed yoga) the position known as "cat/cow" became "Screeching cat/Howling werewolf". IT IS ok not to take yourself too seriously sometimes. I personally believe that true balance is equal parts focus and cheese. I recommend EYD's classes to everyone. And hey, if you end up trying one out and see me there be sure to say hi! As Erin always says, "Namaste and cheers!"

I have met the nicest people at these events and discovered some pretty amazing venues. Eventbrite makes signing up and schedule announcements a breeze. I felt calmer and more flexible after! I could also tell there's a real sense of community there - the other members knew each other and knew Jyoti well.
