I've been to this studio several times and every experience is great! They offer a variety of yoga classes and are welcoming to beginners. I'm definitely not a flexible person and every instructor I've had has made sure to show me modified poses so that I don't injure myself. Definitely check it out. A word of warning though: you have to walk up about five flights of stairs to get to the studio (it's at the very top of the building) so make sure to plan accordingly! read more

I've only taken two classes there so far, and they differed dramatically from each other. Dani subbed for someone else's yoga 1 class last week and did an incredibly amazing job. Her directions were precise, smooth and she led the class as if she were a musical conductor. It was an amazingly serene experience that left me speechless and beyond relaxed. Yoga 1-2 with Matsimela was rushed, imprecise. In a Yoga 1-2 class, it's difficult to follow a teacher that doesn't model the moves himself and who doesn't give clear directions-- he kept correcting himself, "right hand on left knee, i mean right hand on right knee and pull up." What? The transitions were awkward and didn't flow. I left the class totally underwhelmed. Will I be back? Yeah. You can't beat the price-- and that first class was so good, I am yearning for more! read more

My new yoga home! I stumbled upon yoga district via yelp, and I'm so happy! Tons of community passion, very eco-friendly, and gladly focused on the cause. I attend 3-4 classes a week at the Dupont location and LOVE LOVE LOVE each one. The U Street studio is nice too. My fave is yogalates, which is SUPER packed, but SUPER awesome and well worth it. It can occasionally turn into an accidental hot yoga, but that makes it even better. The restorative classes are a good alternative too. I don't even mind the fact that it is in a 5-floor walk-up... Pros: Totally eco-friendly, great classes and teachers, easy location, great price, monthly unlimited, easy online sign-up Cons: Keeping it a secret will be difficult... read more

Affordable, eco-friendly, and great instructors! I came to YogaDistrict Dupont when I moved to DC looking for a welcoming atmosphere as I was getting back into yoga post-college. Absolutely recommend this studio to those just starting out as well as more experienced yogis. Location is great - right outside of the 42 bus stop and barely a block from the Dupont metro. Overall my experience here has been great and I can't see myself going anywhere else while living in the district! read more

This is hands-down the best yoga studio in Washington, DC. It is a beautiful space, has a great variety of quality classes (vinyassa, ashtanga, dharma, rocket, restorative, yin, you name it), attracts excellent teachers and unpretentious students, AND it happens to offer the least expensive yoga in the city. This studio has five sister studios across the city (H-Street, 14th Street, I Street, Bloombingdale, and Glover Park) and they're opening up a Columbia Heights location soon. In the unlikely event that you can't find a class or a teacher that you like at the Dupont location, your class passes are valid at all of the other locations. Each space is a little different, but all provide the same sense of peace and community. I am moving away for work after two years of developing my practice at Yoga District. The experience has been so positive for me that one of my main criteria in an apartment in my new city is proximity to a yoga studio like Yoga District. read more

Yoga can be surprisingly strenuous and you can get quite a work out from a good 90 minutes class, however that's not quite what you will find here. I think they have classes that are much more restorative, meditative and more "yin". That said, the calming energy of this studio, lovely breezy yoga space and general non-fussiness make it a great place to meditate if that is what you're looking for. I hate to pick on little details like this but I really wish some of the instructors would stop talking in the "Yoga Teacher Voice". I mean they sound perfectly normal before and after class. You get what you pay for. Rude front desk staff. Instructor (steve) pushed my hip so hard while pulling my shoulder that my back has been in spasams for 3 days. As a side note I have been practicing yoga for almost 6 years and have never had something like this happen to me in a class. I really dislike writing bad reviews.. but here we go: Do not go here. I arrived 3 minutes late (because I'd spent 3 minutes speaking with a woman at the yoga studio downstairs who told me there was no class at that time.. and by the time we figured out that I was going to a different studio, I was late.) They refused to let me in and the number provided in my confirmation email for "late arrivals" connected me to a woman who told me she couldn't let me in OR give me a refund. Not the zen experience I was seeking! I've been to many yoga studios in many cities and have never seen such poor customer service. Hope they spend my forfeited class fee wisely... This place is good if you are trying to save money - they have good prices. One class I went to was great, the other two were just so-so. Also, the space is up several flights of stairs on the top floor and is tiny. The real problem though is the waiting area is really small and it gets packed. Frankly it just stresses me out which kinda defeats the purpose. read more

Yoga District is no-frills and it's a good value. The Dupont Circle location is tiny and getting so popular there's often no space for drop-ins (must sign up online, blah). I actually think they could squeeze a few more mats into the studio. My favorite class is yogatales with Christina - I've been going on and off for four years and still get a lot out of it. I love yoga's district's mission, pricing structure, and what they do for the community by providing access to yoga for all. However this location is not my favorite. First there's the 3 flights of stairs and the studio is way too small. If someone's mat is 5 inches from you, you can not do a lot of the postures. read more

My search for a quality yoga studio (on Groupon-esque deals) continues. I like Christina's Monday yogalates class to recover from my long Sunday runs. She asks if we have injuries or body parts that need particular attention, and is always around with a block or an adjustment. It's not an incredibly strenuous workout, but if you're looking for a good ab workout and a ton of hip openers, yogalates is the way to go. read more

I highly recommend this location for yoga. I understand they have others around town too, but this is where I went while I was there on a recent business trip. Took 2 classes and loved them. I want to give a special shout-out to Kate H, who taught the early am class, and no one but me showed up, yet she still taught what was essentially a private class! She was absolutely lovely, from the direction and movements she gave, and also the graceful way she herself moved! Yoga District is an amazing organization! I can truly say it's changed my life. I've been practicing with Yoga District for several years now and am starting to volunteer with them. I'm deeply grateful to Yoga District for providing certain classes and instructors that helped me get back into yoga after spine surgery and start to heal from chronic pain and personal trauma. Their affordable, online classes have also been lifeline during the covid-19 crisis. Yoga District's mission is to make yoga accessible to all bodies, financially affordable for more people, and more trauma sensitive. You honestly cannot beat their prices at any other studio in the DC area. You might think that could compromise the quality of classes, but I've honestly encountered the best instructors at Yoga District, and I've tried out a lot of other studios. There is a wide variety of classes, from restorative/yin/gentle to alignment focused to vinyasa flow classes inspired by Ashtanga, Power, Dharma and other traditions. Just check out the class descriptions and especially the teacher bios to get a sense of what to expect and you can definitely find something for you. The studios and many of the instructors also make an effort to incorporate other elements of yoga into classes, and not focus 100% on "yoga as exercise" while ignoring the rest. Many teachers will include brief meditations or breathing exercises, and occasionally even a little bit of yoga philosophy, so as to honor the roots of yoga. I can't recommend Yoga District enough. read more

I was looking for a regular yoga place after I moved down to DC from the NYC area and after looking at the reviews on Yelp I decided to give Yoga District a try. Their Dupont Circle studio is about 30 minutes away from me by Metro. I was not disappointed. I have to repeat what many other reviewers have stated--that this place is unpretentious, laid back, and a really nice place to go where you don't feel self-conscious if you are still learning yoga (or are a bit rusty from a few months of laziness like me). Their 3 class for $10 pass for new students is a great way to try out different classes in a week and now I have signed up for their $88 10-class pass (while that is pricey it is still cheaper than NYC prices). So far I have taken a couple Yoga 1 classes and one Flow Yoga 1 class each with a different instructor and I have enjoyed all of them. I especially loved Caroline M.'s class because she switched it up by not centering the class around sun salutation and included some great aromatherapy at the end. Amy Dara's Flow Yoga class was also nice because while I am usually hesitant to try any kind of balancing (for fear of falling into the student next to me) she was patient and laid back enough that I didn't feel pressured to try anything I was comfortable with. Because of that I think I accomplished more balancing than I have in any other class! The only reason I am giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is that I wish that they offered more Yoga 1 classes and also had a morning class at Dupont that started between 7:30 and 9 am (I love morning yoga but there is no way I can wake up to get to a 6:30 class 30 minutes away). Other than that I feel like they have a great diversity of classes and I am looking forward to trying out one of their Reboot Yoga classes and Yogalates. :-) read more

I am a member of another studio but finally decided to try out Yoga District and I'm hooked. I'm a graduate student so I want good value for my money. With this studio, I'm able to fit in some morning and afternoon classes. The teachers are very nice, warm and laid back. They are also very helpful at answering questions. I love the no-frills, unpretentious atmosphere. The only drawback is that if you don't get there on time, quite possibly, you'll get locked out. It's near my house and extremely convenient for me to get there. EDIT: I wanted to add that the people who work at Yoga District are phenomenal. They are super sweet, supportive and really wonderful. 4 stars but should be 3.5. . . The class I took from Aqeel was great. I loved Yoga District's pricing structure, non-profit mission and the 4 flights of stairs was not a problem. As an out-of-town visitor, I appreciated their $10 for 3 classes in 7 days. The class was good - following the principles of Dharma Mittra and accessible to most. I liked that I could rent a mat though it was really worn (almost translucent) and should be recycled. Aqeel was a patient teacher, assisting students who were struggling somewhat, but able to keep the class moving. The lack of the 4th star is for the reason that when I left, there was no thanks for coming in, no "Nice to meet you.", nothing, zilch, nada. I had to cross between him and the 2 young attractive, female students he was conversing with, so I know he saw me leave. Just a common courtesy. If I was sticking around here longer, I would def try the other locations and instructors though. read more

I tried yoga once at a gym, but was turned off because of some of the overly religious / spiritiual indoctrinatination the instructor was trying to push upon the class and because of the chaotic feel the overall class had being in a gym, right next to spin, hip-hop dance cardio, and other classes.... Enter Yoga District..... I had my first class there with Brendan yesterday and it was just what I needed in terms of melting the stress of the day away. The place was serene, Brendan's teaching style was a nice balance of allowing the student to learn on their own through trial and error and assisting only when necessary, and overall I left feeling relaxed and like I had countered the negativity of the day. Provided second visit goes well, I plan to return to yelp and change my review to 5 stars!~ read more

Have 15 years of on and off astanga yoga practice since college with a teacher who studied many years in India and whose awesomeness is summarized by the fact that he continued doing yoga a week after breaking his hip when he slipped on ice at age 65, so I have high standards but not in a snotty way. Trying the 3 classes for $10 deal. Really appreciate the diversity of classes, the flexibility of the schedule, and so far the staff are all kind and patient and accepting. Some reviews have noted the humidity and crowding, but that's quite authentic for India. Yoga often emphasizes depth of practice --- really getting into even the simple poses, making them harder than you would expect, breathing correctly, getting the alignment right, doing some preparation to certain poses that protect your knees, doing opposite poses right after each other, being cautious about anything involving the neck even if it seems easy such as plow, easing into a position and then backing off to make sure everything is okay and then easing back into it, erring on the side of doing less rather than more, etc. The astanga class I went to emphasized breadth over depth and went into some pretty advanced poses rather than getting deep into simple poses and making the simple hard. The teacher mentioned the possibility of doing less, but didn't emphasize it which is really necessary for a class full of DC high achievers to go deep rather than broad. The astanga class was a great experience, the teacher had a good presence, I left feeling all floaty and present, and I recommend it. Maybe balance with another class to learn a bit more and err on the side of doing less, even if you're the only one. read more

First off, let me say that I really, really enjoyed the class that I took here tonight. It was my first yoga class ever, too! Please know that this place is EXTREMELY no-frills. The studio is pretty small/cramped, lacks sufficient A/C, and smells kind of musty. The snooty volunteer at the front desk wasn't particularly welcoming, either. That said, I will definitely be coming back. I loved the class, and appreciated that it wasn't overly....spiritual/hippy. (I'll still be keeping my voting habits under wraps, of course!) Normally I really hate yoga and it takes a lot to get me there but I have wanted to be good at it. I went here and it was amazing. Great instructor, hot temp, and plenty of room. Blows Arlington Bikram away. I liked it that I wasn't getting yelled at by some old guy in a Speedo. Plus, I wasn't sandwiched between two hulking fat bodies like my previous experience in Arlington. I have changed my mind about Bikram and if I can replicate this experience again, I may not be a Yoga loser this year! read more

I love everything about Yoga District. I love both the Dupont and.14 & T studios, the size and intimacy of the classes, the students who practice there, and most of all, the instructors. They are amazing, I have learned so much about proper alignment and form when executing poses and inversions and they do an excellent job providing adjustments during class. Found this place by searching for the cheapest and most non-commital yoga in DC - and found a real gem. It's been the most chill and relaxed yoga place i've been to - I love the variety and creativity that the instructors bring to the table here. Reboot Yoga on Fridays and Candelight yoga on Sunday nights (@ Dupont) have been 2 of my favorites. With the 3 classes for 10$ beginners deal ... you really can't go wrong trying it out! read more

I used to go to Tranquil Space but took a break for a while and decided to check out the other yoga studios in the area when I wanted to start up my practice again. What can I say, YD is twice the yoga studio at half the price. I feel lucky to have found it. There is a great variety of different classes and every instructor I've had so far has been wonderful. In particular, I like Michelle's power yoga classes and Annette's restorative classes. read more

Definately a deal for the price and a decently taught class. Only prob I have with it is in my teacher, i think I had Michelle. She was chewing gum throughout the class, which was seriously irritating. And I guess I just like a more hands-on teacher. I know i'm taking stances wrong and that 2 seconds where the teacher slighlty moves you really does make a difference for me. Regardless I do have the new clients week pass, and will def check out two more classes. read more

I love the space of the Dupont Yoga District. There are so many different styles of yoga offered, there's something for everyone. It is a trek to get to the studio since it's on the 4th floor and you have to pass by all of the sweaty Bikram Yoga folks, so make sure to give yourself enough time to get to the studio. The negative is that the classes straight after work are always packed though, and they really pack a lot of students in the room. I've found some great yoga teachers here in DC though. read more
