And the fries aren't just the typical light colored bland fries that so many places serve. They're darker and more translucent, probably from how they're cooked, and I really liked them! I recently went here for the first time. This is a locally owned, small business. Upon entering, you can immediately tell the locals frequently eat here. Several times we heard the owner call people by name as they came in. I ordered the grilled tilapia which came with fries. The fish was phenomenal! It has a subtle spice to it but not enough that it burns. It included two large filets which was plenty of food. The grits are moist, flavorful and has a wonderful cheesy taste. When opening the dish it looks like there's so much gravy but they have calculated how much is needed so the last bite is as delicious as the first. The place was packed, but we quickly made it through the line and were delighted to find there was a 10% off yelp check-in coupon. We waited a bit for our food, but it was definitely well worth the wait. 2 of my friends ordered the hot wings, the other ordered the chicken with waffles, and I ordered the fish plate. Overall, everything was great, I just have one complaint. The Spanish rice I got as a side, was dried and crispy. I didn't like it, but thought that was just the style. My friend also had a Spanish rice which was a lot more moist and how I imagined it to be (I posted a pic of the two for comparison, mine looks pretty crispy/overcooked). That is really my only complaint. The atmosphere here is very nice. They may have a small menu here, but they definitely do their menu well. The place is small and cute, and the hospitality of the workers here is truly five star. There were a couple of things on the menu that jumped out to me, and we ended up sharing one order of 7 wings, fries, and cole slaw. Best decision ever! When the server brought out the ginormous bowl of wings, I was super relieved I wouldn't be tempted to finish all of this yummy goodness. The wings were huge, the meat was cooked perfectly. I finally had an opportunity to try Yo'Mama's and I'm glad I did. I was in town and was trying to think of where I could go for lunch. I remembered that there was a restaurant that had early hours, so I checked Yelp and decided to try Yo'Mama's. The food here is great! I decided to try the chicken and waffles and the waffle was thin like I like it and the chicken was seasoned very well (it's my understanding the batter on the chicken is gluten free:-). The syrup and whipped creme were different. Both are made in house and tastes great. There is fruit for the waffle (strawberries and blueberries) and overall, the food overall is awesome!! The restaurant is decorated with bright green colored chairs and the ambience is very warm and inviting. Food orders are placed at the register and food is brought to the table by the waitress. There is fruit punch, lemonade and coffee to drink. There were other people in the restaurant who spoke very highly of the food. There was one lady who told me she frequents the restaurant quite often and is in love with the food. I wanted to try the peach cobbler, but chocolate cake was on the menu for the day. It is my understanding the sides and desserts change, so you may want to check with the restaurant before visiting if you are looking for a specific item. Overall, I enjoyed the food and my experience. I will definitely visit again when I'm in town.
