My children are two years apart, and both have had an amazing experience here. Not only have my children learned and grown so much, but as a first-time mom, I've also gained valuable knowledge and guidance from Ceci. Her experience with children truly shows in the level of care and education she provides. As my oldest prepares for their final year before kindergarten, I feel confident and proud of how ready they are. They know their ABCs, colors, songs, and have developed strong social skills. Most importantly, my children genuinely love being there. I feel completely at ease while at work, knowing my children are safe, well cared for, and receiving a strong early education. Thank you, Baby Penguin Daycare, for being such a nurturing, supportive, and enriching environment for my children. I highly recommend this daycare to any parent.

They started caring for my oldest daughter when she was just 1 year old, and she is now 11. Since then, all of my daughters have gone there as well -- starting when they were only 2-3 months old. My girls are now 8, 5, and 4, and this daycare has been such an important part of their early childhood. One thing I really appreciate is how much they focus on teaching the kids their basics. My daughters learned their numbers, ABCs, and many early learning skills while in their care, which helped prepare them for school. They also make sure the kids are always well fed with healthy meals and snacks. The daycare is run by the owner along with her daughter, Nelly, and her dad, who the kids lovingly call "Abuelo." It really feels like a family environment, and my daughters have always felt safe, loved, and cared for there. It's also a wonderful Spanish-speaking childcare environment, which has been such a positive experience for our family. Finding someone you trust with your children is not easy, but this daycare has truly been a blessing to our family for many years. I'm very grateful for the care, patience, and love they've given my girls throughout the years, and I would highly recommend them to any parent looking for a caring and trustworthy daycare.

My young sons attended this 'summer camp' over the summer. I would written this review sooner and…read morepulled them out of that school if they had only informed sooner of all their experiences. There is too much to write and I am sad that I put my kids through all that. Basically, don't send your child here unless you really have no choice. I was originally drawn to this school because of the extremely affordable fee (almost nothing) and free meals, the mission of the school and that at orientation they said there were rules for everyone to follow. Sadly my sons have witnessed several things at this school that they would not have normally experienced if I didn't send them there. This is not to say that some of these experiences will never happen to them in their lives but sending them to this 'camp' just elevated these harsh realities by 200% and way too soon in their lives. It was a very urban environment and the staff were ill equipped to deal with the issues being brought up to them. These are only some things that happen almost daily: - Teasing daily of anyone who is different, especially fat or different race, not wearing cool clothes - rough play, fighing kids - staff curses in front of kids, ignores children's complaints - stealing - no following rules - balls thrown at faces - kids cursing, disrespecting school property - hair pulling, spitting on you - manipulating of younger kids out of their money spent at the vending machine - when teacher leaves room, movie shown in movie room is changed into Rated R or inappropriate movie. when other kids speak up to about the wrong, they are threatened - other kids share magazine pornography - staff closing door on kids hands yelling at them to get out of room - staff telling kids to get them vending machine food - staff ignoring kids and stay on their cell phone texting - kids jump tables and couches, tables thrown around - shoving, punching, kicking - staff yells at kids - food thrown at kids faces, thrown at building walls & fences - kids don't stay in their group and wander to other rooms to go to activities they want to do - boys touching girls inappropriately - kids taking other kids property - referencing gangs - name calling - Older kids are allowed to act any way they like I knew it was a rough school but I didn't know it was this bad until today. My kids thought Fr.Tien, Nick and Chynna were nice but the childrens' exposure to all the negative things around them is clearly out of control.

When looking for a preschool for my then 3-year-old I needed a space where I knew he would feel…read moresafe away from home for the first time, where there was a community of grown ups looking out for him, and he was able to learn and grow socially. ECPC checked all of my preschool wishlist items. Even before school started, teachers and current families hosted new family playdates so the kids could get accustomed to the space, and we had a one-on-one teacher meeting; I always felt welcomed and included. The teachers take great care to curate open-ended experiences for the kids. There are outdoor and indoor play spaces to include sand and climbing play, art, games and imaginative play, building, reading, and more. Each space is set up to encourage discovery and self-expression. The kids are free to roam each space during play times, they are invited for snack mid-program, and gather for two group times. There is a deep sense of community not just for the kids, but for the grown ups, too. Every enrolled family has a family job and commits to 5-35 hours a month (depending on the role) to ensure the school runs smoothly for the current year and for future kids to enjoy. Families also commit to at least one participation shift a week to support the teachers in the different play spaces. The grown ups learn, too, as the teachers and members of the community share on early childhood development topics. The school has been around since 1940 and serves families in El Cerrito and nearby cities. There is an AM and a PM program (you can enroll in one or both) with a minimum of three days enrollment, plus an optional lunch program. Teachers can assist your littles with toileting as needed and will work with you if your kid is transitioning to potty use. I highly recommend ECPC for any family looking for a play-based parent cooperative for their 3-5 year olds!
