Indoor pool, open year round. Situated in a lovely historical building. Rarely crowded, well, except on hot weekends (avoid this at all costs, unless you want to swim with the masses and deal with the pandemonium). Salt water, no chlorine! The pool is divided into two sections on weekends. I do laps--so indulgent to have an unhurried lane to myself--while my guys flutter about in the family rec side, which is slightly warmer. The locker rooms have been clean and have mesh bags for you to put your stuff. Only thing I'd knock them for is they don't accept $20 bills even tho' it's cash only and sometimes the staff at the entrance is a bit slowish. Overall, though, a great place for a swim.

Swimming at Keller's Beach is not that bad. The place gets a Richmond Bay tidal flush out twice a day every day, despite the nearby Refinery. I swan there many summers and still remain healthy. But in the winter, inclement weather forced me to go indoors and that is where and why the Plunge in Pt. Richmond is such a great place. I looked forward to making the trip past San Quintin Prison and over the Richmond Bay Bridge just for the chance to do some nice laps at this very historical Municipal Natatorium. The Plunge website says: "For all of these 70 years the "Plunge" has been a distinctive asset to the City of Richmond where youth, elders, those with infirmities and illness, have come to swim, exercise, maintain mobility, recuperate and just enjoy family activities. It has been utilized by residents of Contra Costa, Alameda, Solano and Marin Counties." (I would also add San Francisco county.) The Plunge has been open to all ages, races, economic status, physical abilities and life status-it is the great equalizer that allows all to enjoy water amenities. In the cold wintertime of the Bay Area, the opportunity to do some indoor swimming at the Pt. Richmond Plunge is a real treat. When my daughter was a toddler, she also enjoyed water babies and splashing around at this great pool. The freight trains that roll constantly by along the tracks right next to the Plunge are very cool too. I only deduct 1 Yelp Star as the hours of operation are a little strange. However, this is probably because of the cutbacks in city staffing due to the economy. Pt. Richmond is a charming, wonderful little city and the Plunge is something that all of Richmond should be very proud of.

Nice landscaping, would never guess this is part of Richmond.

Good location, good parking, clean facilities and friendly staff. Not that busy when we arrived, two per lane. Lane 1 for water walking, lane 2 for slow, lane 3 for med, lane 4 fast. Remaining lanes for masters. It's a decent deal to get exercise at an indoor pool. We will definitely be back. Free street parking.

I took my friend's kids here for family recreational swim during the week and it cost $3 per child 1:30-3:30, good entertainment and exercise at a very affordable price. Since the kids are very good swimmers, they simply had to pass a test then get a wrist band and they could enjoy the deep end of the pool. It's a very lovely pool with big soaring ceiling and I really liked the fact that it didn't have a strong chlorine smell.

Local gem- Richmond is more than you hear about in the media

Huge indoor pool in an historic building. Great evening lap swimming, though the extended summer hours are soon to end in September. Locker rooms are clean enough and the facility is all around no pressure and no fuss. In the late evenings most lanes only had 1 swimmer. The shallow end had small lessons, walkers and some rec use. Fantastic community resource. The hours are strange, check the website. Plenty of street parking in the evening. Free coat check. The showers were warm enough and there was a suit dryer (spins dry).

Thursday evenings through California Canoe and Kayak you can learn to roll in the nice warm waters

We have been coming here since 2023 and I learned how to swim here in the late 80s and 90s…read more Pros: * Outdoor pool is heated and El Sobrante is rarely above 85 degrees in the summer. * No snobby, cliquey vibes. People are here to learn to swim only, not swim team competition. * This place does swim lessons only. They don't have to share the pool with recreational swimmers or club members. * Deep end training and intro to diving. * Offer makeups. We had to use them when we had Covid. * As of 2026, rates have not risen since 2024. They continue to be among the more affordable group lessons. Small discount for siblings. Cons: * Not open year-round. Open only during weekdays in the summer. * Small, cramped parking lot and San Pablo Dam Road traffic makes it not particularly safe to park a few blocks away and walk. * Hard to get into time slots that fit your schedule, especially if you have more than one child. * Private lessons not offered.

It goes smooth and by the numbers. Kids advance in skill and comfort in the water. Before lessons here, our daughter... searching for the words... dreaded water in her face. A single drop of water from the bathtub--clean bath water--prompted shrieks of pain, fear, anger, and betrayal. Now she's underwater so much during lessons that they occasionally sit her up on the side of the pool to ensure that she hears instruction. It's very goals oriented. And they aren't afraid to not pass a kid. My daughter didn't pass the level one test: float motionless, face down on the surface of the water for 10 seconds. She was disappointed, yet determined and asked me to help her practice before the next lesson. She re-tested and passed. Then she didn't pass the level 2 test: swim on her own halfway across the pool. I think she would have passed if she has spent more time listening and less time sitting on the bottom of the pool waving at the other students. The instructors are attentive and encouraging. They remember the kids names and make it fun for them. Clean bathroom. Outdoor changing booths. Chairs, bleachers, shade. Orderly and organized. Don't be late. Parking is limited. If you choose to give a thumbs-up or not, I hope you found my review helpful!

A seasonal schedule was posted online which made it easy to check when lap swim hours were and adjust my work schedule accordingly. If I was really ambitious I would get a swim in during my lunch hour. I found midday lap swims to be the least busy, especially during non-summer months. The evening lap swims could get a bit packed and showers could get crowded when trying to shower before getting in the pool due to a high volume of youths showering after swim team practice. Lap swim while water aerobics is going on is quite the treat. A few lanes were dedicated to water aerobics and other lanes would be open for lap swim. Music played during the water aerobics class, which made my kick sets enjoyable getting to listen to music and swim. I paid per lap swim which is the more expensive option. There is also a pass option where the pass is good for a certain number of lap swims or certain number of days and you pay in advance for the set number of swims or days. They had these passes for lap swim, water aerobics, the masters swim team, and recreation swim. For lap swim the passes were for 10 swims, 30 days, and 90 days. The price range for these lap swim passes spanned roughly $50 to over $300. Something to keep in mind when budgeting if you also have and/or want a gym membership. Facilities were clean and the lifeguards kind and helpful. Kickboards and pull buoys were provided on deck. The pool entrance and usage fees were well marked and payment for each swim was simple and straightforward.

Brought it to a lifeguard's attention, they literally said "that is his area". We left after this comment. There appeared to be actual feces in the kiddie pool area. Not a just a little. The lifeguards at the diving boards did not ensure that yellow bands were on little kids' wrists. My nephew went over there and was obviously not 12. Nothing done. I took him away and put him where he belonged. I had three kids with me all different ages and heights. Lifeguards need to be lifeguards and not be checking out other teenagers and playing games amongst themselves. It was very obvious. Sad really. Won't be back.

Seems like everyone is following the rules and having so much fun! They will allow you to bring your own food, tables, and chairs in! If you're a parent/caregiver and you want to swim, it will cost you the same but if you just want to go in it, it's five dollars to enter. We typically stay the full rec time that is 3 1/2 hours. While I wasn't afraid of pools or the ocean, I'd drown if I found myself in deep water without a life vest. I decided to finally take the plunge and learn in my 30s, and I'm so glad I found Woody! At the time, she was offering lessons in Oakland, and I chose her because it was in my neighborhood. Although the 1:1 lessons were a bit pricey for my budget at the time, they were worth it! After a few months of lessons, I was able to get past the mental barrier I had around deep water and finally learned how to tread water. Beyond that, Woody equipped me with numerous skills and techniques to feel confident and comfortable in the water. Let me tell you, learning to swim as an adult is no easy feat, but having a fantastic instructor makes all the difference. I highly recommend Woody for swim lessons! Thank you, Woody!

TLDR: stay clear of this place, unless you like paying thousands for glorified day care…read more UPDATE - response to owner's (Cheronda A.) reply to this review: Hi Cheronda, I already did exactly what you suggest, before leaving this review I reached out to you directly to raise my concerns, which you refused to address after which you ended our conversation by writing quote; "There will be no further correspondence on this matter.", which now results in your incongruity between your private and public communication being on public display. Original review: British Swim School's Vallejo location, run by Cheronda A. and team, advertise their program as being able to "instilling water survival skills that save lives". After 17 months (64 lessons) and $2500 down the drain, we pulled our son from this program due to it being more akin to an aquatic day care (with you as the parent remaining present) than a swim program. The people at the school are nice enough interpersonally, but these are the red flags to notice: - After an initial few weeks you stop getting feedback, which when given is always verbally and never through skill progress item in the British Swim School's app. If you challenge the owner (Cheronda A.) on this, you will be gaslighted in there being more feedback than there actually is, and that it is their policy to only give verbal feedback versus using the app for what it is intended. - You'll notice your child will have many different instructors throughout lessons, with great variety as seniority as instructors. - You're paying about $40 for a 30min session, but on avg. there are 4 kids per classes, meaning even if you round up that's $40 for 10 minutes of instruction, as in the 64 "lessons" we paid for equates to having paid $2500 for less than 11 hours of instruction. - The lessons are utterly simple snd repetitive, and not lessons at all, the same 4 simple things are just endlessly repeated without any coaching or guidance from the instructors towards the child as to what to do different or how to improve. - The final straw, when you confront them on the inadequacies listed above, they will a) gaslight you in terms of feedback cycles, but much much worse, b) blame the lack of results on your child. In summary, this school will happily take your money for providing very little, and in terms of practical outcomes are operating in opposition of their mission statement.
