We ordered sweet and sour shrimp. There was so much breading on the shrimp and it was awful. It was like eating fried breading over rice.

Ordered 2meals. Sweet and sour chicken with chow mein instead of fried rice. Chow mein $1 more was nothing but noodles. Half of which were cooked too hard. Returning noodles NOT chow mein later this afternoon. Other meal was chicken chop suey with fried rice. Chop suey floated in water and mostly bean sprouts and onions. All in all it was a total disappointment. We have ordered before many times and food was edible. This time, if I had a dog, I would not have given it to him. read more

Updating my review.....They are open and have been for a little bit, Almost all new building. Staff is mostly family and very polite and kind. Food is good. Not the absolute best Chinese that I have ever eaten but for the Marshall area, this place is a "go-to." I have had a variety of dishes here and would not say that any of them are bad. I enjoy their chop suey. I usually order the pork. I prefer it to be cut more extra fine than what they do but its usually tasty. A few times I had it where it was very fatty and I dont prefer that. The egg rolls are typical Chinese restaurant eggrolls full of mushy, tasteless, cabbage with barely any other ingredients. Stay away. What ever happened to the old fashioned egg rolls that had bean sprouts, bits of pork, chopped mushrooms, onions, celery? I don't know either, but we need to suggest that these places go back to making a more tasty product and the only way is to stop ordering these sub par egg rolls!! Who's with me? read more

I was looking for something different than regular fast food. I was looking for Thai or Japanese but then I saw this place. Friendly welcome and a clean place. Good menu with many choices. So I picked one I had not tried anywhere else. One thing I can say is that it was super fast and food was super hot (which I appreciate), but made me think. The best eggrolls that we've had East of Chicago. This was the best vegetable fried rice I've ever had and I've had it from a lot of places especially around Chicago. I came here for the first time with my wife. She had been here before and likes the place. It's cute little restaurant with friendly staff that are attentive. It's a relaxing and quiet atmosphere which is a positive for me. I ordered the Orange chicken dinner special that comes with fried rice and an egg roll. They brought me a huge plate, full of food. Went here for 1st time a few days ago, egg rolls were really good. Egg drop soup tasty but really watery. Wife and daughter order sweet n sour chicken and they both said ok at best. I had General tsao and the chicken wasn't breaded, but it tasted ok. Fried rice was standard. Tried the pot stickers and was severely disappointed. Daughter couldn't finish the one bite she had and wife wouldn't even try them. Wasn't worth my drive from BC. Was really hoping for better. Place wasn't much from outside but was clean inside and the staff were super friendly. Food taste good; typical Asian "fast food". Ten Yen has two things going for it. With it's newly rebuilt building it is very clean, and the owner and staff gave excellent service. A minor negative is that the interior is sparsely decorated and lacks charm. As far as the food goes, it's very inexpensive and it shows in the food quality. We had wonton soup, house fried rice and egg foo young. The wonton soup was okay, but the very bright, yellow color was a turnoff. The fried rice was dried up and had so much soy sauce in it it was dark, dark brown. Quite possibly the worst fried rice I've ever eaten. The gravy on the egg foo young was very greasy and thick making it impossible to even taste the eggs and vegetables. We were unable to finish any of our food. I don't plan on returning. read more

The service was horrible. It took nearly 20 minutes just to be acknowledged that we were in the building. Tables were dirty and no one was running front of house or busing tables. The server forgot the highchair, straws, and 10 minutes to get our soups. The wonton soup was great! The food was so-so with heavy servings of rice and not a lot of meat or vegetables. The egg roll tasted of old oil. At the end we had to track someone down just to get boxes and the check. Moght be a good place for carry out but not a place I would recommend to sit and eat. read more

NO LONGER CLOSED! This restaurant had a serious fire on June 24, 2016. The building was demolished and has since been rebuilt. They re-opened yesterday (10-19-17) to crowds of anxious customers...the line was out the door. There are many happy people in this and surrounding communities who have enjoyed their food for the past 30 years. read more

Yin Hai is my favorite Chinese place, its family owned and they are always friendly and happy to see you. Two of the ladies have my order down and I don't even have to say a thing. After reopening from a fire, we've had a few issues. We've gotten nauseated after eating here. Also, one other occasion, my wife found a large metal shaving in her cashew chicken. Yin Hai is a delicious and affordable choice for any meal. Authentic ethnic restaurants are very hard to come by in the region. Fortunately, this family owned eatery breaks the mold. I have been frequenting this restaurant for more than 10 years now, and I have always been greeted with a smile and a hot, fresh, and deliciously large portion of food. Being in SW Michigan makes it more difficult to get a consistent flow of fresh meats, seafood and produce, but this place seems to be right on the heels of many Asian eateries I've had in larger cities around the US. They have delicious egg rolls and amazing bread that come standard with all of their combo plates (also, you can specify spiciness level if you're spice sensitive or you have the little ones with you), and dinner is served w soup and your choice of sherbert or ice cream. Seriously, where can you find a three course meal these days for under $10 besides this place?? I say skip the same ol same at the generic buffets in Marshall and Battle Creek and give Yin Hai a try.
