While sitting here tonight in a Kalamazoo Hotel, it's about 3am and I'm polishing off my dinner leftovers from DAK GOOD, a Korean Fried Chicken joint. Whenever I'm out of town, I ALWAYS look for a Korean restaurant, and as luck would have it, there are a few in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Yay!! Only thing wrong with my search, two of the three were closing in ten minutes and the third was advertised as Fried Chicken. I was 15 minutes away, so I gave in for the chicken, with fingers crossed that they'd have other popular dish options. Beautiful little restaurant when you arrive, very clean too. Immediately greeted and asked if to-go or dine-in, as they have a good counter for food delivery services. I of course opted to dine-in since I had about an hour til closing. Really nice looking menu, with plenty of selections beyond Fried Chicken. I didn't hesitate too long as to expedite my meal before closing. I ordered Pork Pot Stickers (Yakimandu), JapChae, and some Bulgogi. PanChan was extra, and the Kimchi along with Pickled Radish were my selection. The Yakimandu arrived first, nicely plated with half So Garlic Sauce and half Spicy Sauce. The mandi were delicious with these brushed sauces. That Spicy was no joke either, had a really good burning kick. The remainder of the meal was brought out together. The plates looked great and I couldn't wait to dig in, but if course pictures first. Both were super delicious and really hitting the spot after a long day. Very tasty meals. The staff brought me out a dessert after seeing me take all the photos, something I've never had, Deep Fried Cheesecake. Check out the photos. Definitely a different take on the dessert. Everything outside was crispy, of course, with the inside still the same. It was a texture experience. The staff were super friendly, very well knowledged on the menu items. Place was very clean, not just clean, but very clean! I think they said they've been there just over a year. I was served by Freda, and Caroline was there to assist when needed. The hostess was a real sweetheart, I'll call hers "Zaps" (because she had the TV remote at closing and I missed her real name). Young masked gentleman, again missed name, and one of the owners Kenny and his wife Lin. So good, I will be eating lunch and/or dinner there again tomorrow or Monday depending on time. I definitely want to try the Fried Chicken, probably not with the Spicy Sauce this time. LOL I do highly recommend you try this place if you haven't. read more

Fun fact - Dak means chicken in Korean :) So Chicken Good! I visit my fam in Kzoo every summer so my sister brought me here bc she knows I love Korean food. She's been to Dak a couple other times and said it was good. Place is somewhat new so it has that new interior clean vibe still. We were greeted right away and our waitress was really nice and attentive. We ordered the Korean cheese balls, buldak - spicy chicken with rice cakes so if you can't handle the spice don't get this!, stone bowl bibimbap with tofu, and the Korean sliders - you can choose beef or chicken and we went with beef. Everything was delish! Dak Good is a nice edition to Kzoo/Portage so I'd def go back on my next visit :) read more

I visited DAK Good Korean Fried Chicken for lunch with my husband and truly believe this place has great potential, which is why I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 3. With a few improvements, this could easily become one of the best Korean spots in Kalamazoo! Let's start with the lunch specials available from 11 AM to 3 PM. The prices are very reasonable, and the deals are great. We ordered the Garlic Fried Chicken and the 8-piece Chicken Strips. Both were delicious! Crispy, flavorful, and not greasy you can tell they use fresh oil. However, both dishes were very, very, very salty. I hope they adjust the seasoning in the future, because everything else was on point. Each dish came with fries, but the portion of fries was quite small, even for a lunch menu. It felt more like a side sample than a true side. Another minor letdown: they charged extra for mayonnaise, which ideally should be complimentary with fried items. Now here's something quirky and kind of funny in its own way: if you're planning to dine in, bring your own knife! They provide everything in-house except proper utensils. It's as if they believe in empowering their customers to come prepared for battle ! one crispy chicken bite at a time! Lol Customer service is where they need the most growth. Staff should be more welcoming, smiling, and better informed about the menu. They should also be able to explain the concept behind the restaurant's ordering style for lunch. More Photos of the dishes on the menu would be a huge plus too. Despite these areas for improvement, I wholeheartedly support this place. It's one of the most flavorful Korean restaurants in Kalamazoo, and I'd love to see it thrive. The decor is beautiful, the colors are well-chosen, and the place is clean and inviting. It's clear that a lot of love went into building it , now it just needs that extra polish. We ordered enough strips that there would be leftovers and we succeeded, there were plenty. This is my son's favorite place for chicken and I can see why he like them. It is a do again. read more

i'll never stop raving over there food we tried the cord dog for the first time and it was so amazing a crunchy, with the perfect amount of sauce on top. Service is always good and I appreciate how clean it is inside. The only thing dak good needs to change is not having sides of the garlic soy sauce because I'd lick it off the plate if i could and i wish you could dip other things in the sauce other then just having it on the food. read more

I've only ever had Korean food one other time before, but this was AMAZING! The menu was very easy to read and understand with clearly mentioned ingredients and spice levels. Beware to those that can't handle the heat Korean food spice levels are different from what your used to. But if you can, I'd HIGHLY recommend the Buldak (pictured) with a side of Kimchi~ The owner, Tommy, came out and personally thanked us for stopping in and gave us a bit about the restaurant. He was very kind and even offered us a new drink to try! I got the wings and let me tell you there was not a spot that was missed for the sauce and I have never had wings so juicy and so much meat on them. The service was fast and very efficient. We ordered a large quantity of food when we had family in from out of town. We ordered the regular fried chicken and the spicy fried chicken. Wow! I had the spicy and it was fantastic. The ones who had the regular also enjoyed it. We also ordered the dumplings which were good and French fries with BBQ and cheese. They weren't my favorite, but the others really enjoyed them. 100% recommend Dak Good! We've been here a couple of times now and tried several things on the menu and were highly impressed with everything. The wings are so crispy!! They're like nothing I've ever had before. The spicy wings are definitly spicy so be prepared, they're outstanding! One of the times we had leftover wings and they were still crispy hours later. The wings come with a side of coleslaw or pickled radishes. The coleslaw is a classic coleslaw, crispy, not sweet or spicy but really good. The corn dog isn't what you'd think. It's fried cheese on a stick!! The mozzarella is stretchy, covered in a crispy but doughy breading with bits of the worlds best fries fried on the outside and drizzled with ketchup and mayo. I'd order these a million more times. The bulgogi is the most tender meat and so good. We've had the bulgogi fries and the bulgogi entree which is served with white rice and we loved them both. This was our first time trying Takoyaki and loved it. The outside it crispy and the octopus inside the dumpling was really good and wasn't chewy like it is sometimes at other places. The potstickers are tasty! They're crispy fried and brushed with either soy garlic or spicy sauce. We chose soy garlic because we thought that would be best. On our first visit the owner stopped by to ask how our experience was. We were raving to him about how much we loved it. He told us he chose the best french fries you could buy and he wasn't wrong. They're so crispy and the best frozen fries we've ever eaten. He also brought us two drinks he wanted us to try that were so sweet but tasty (two different flavors of Calpico). Our second visit our daughters were with us and this time the owner brought them each a drink to try, 1 Ramune Soda & 1 Calpico. They loved them (so did we)!!! Each time we've been here the owner is there and is sure to come visit us and make sure our experience is nothing but the best. You can tell that he takes pride in outstanding service because all of the staff is exceptionally kind, attentive, informative and leaves you ready to come back again. The restaurant is very clean, they definitely do a great job at making sure the entire place is spotless. The kitchen staff even greeted us while we were eating to be sure that our food was good. The bathrooms are also very nice and clean as well. Whatever you try here, you'll love and I hope your experience is just as outstanding as ours have been. The food was delicious the best we've had in an Asian Restaurant. Service was above and beyond Ambiance not that type of restaurant although details were thoughtful. We were seated by a host. Chopsticks were in a napkin on a plate and the table was set! The focus was the food and hospitality. The food wasn't over sweetened a little sugar in the katsu sauce Yum yum! The food sizzled on the plate. Great manners of the server. Ladies before gentlemen!! They probably had 20 meals prepared for pickup in the hour we were there. Nobody had to sit down and wait. Food was good, I got the japchae which hit the spot. I think it's a good sign for a place's future that the food was so fresh! Service was good, if a bit confusing. They have both a counter with an employee behind it as well as a server who helps you at the table, but it was fine. Most places have less service, not more so I consider that a plus. Ambiance is very clean at this location, another good sign. From what I hear, this is a growing small chain in the area, and I hope they make their way to Michigan's Capitol sometime soon! My son and I tried DakGood for lunch and loved it! We each had bibimbop, he did the beef and I had the spicy chicken both were excellent. Served in a sizzling cast iron bowl with fresh ingredients, very tasty. The real star for me was the order of wings we split. So crispy and juicy with just the right amount of sauce. Best wings I've had in years. My son is not a huge wings fan, it's a texture thing, but he really liked these wings because they were truly crispy and not soggy. I think we're heading back this weekend. So good! The service was also top shelf. We were seated promptly, and weren't rushed, and our glasses were never empty. Super friendly staff. read more

Upon entry, greeted by a huge chicken sculpture! Immediately felt happy at the prospect of a new Korean fried chicken place! Place is extremely clean and food was presented very nicely. We ordered a small mixed platter of fried chicken (soy glaze and spicy). Chicken was cooked very nicely, very crispy, and the spicy chicken was VERY SPICY! So if you're into that, you won't be disappointed. We got a side of their pickled radish (excellent) and an extra side of their kimchi, which was very fresh and tasted delicious. Husband wanted to try their bulgogi so we ordered their bulgogi fries, which were also very good! Ordered one Korean hotdog, which is cheese only, and that was crunchy and yummy. I wanted their ramen, so I ordered their spicy miso chicken ramen. It was much too spicy for me, but my husband liked it. Next time I'll opt for the other chicken ramen without too much spice. I should mention that we are Korean and we just happened to visit Korea last summer, so we know a little something about Korean food. This place is great! Although I went there with for the taste of authentic beef Bulgogi, it was the soy garlic chicken bao buns that stole the show. The bulgogi was tasteless and deserved a 3.5/10 rating, in my opinion. The bao buns, however were loaded with flavor and had nice sized pieces of chicken. I would definitely give these a 8.8/10. read more
