I have known Lisa and Sam for at least 15 yrs, they are amazing people who make amazing food, I'm at the point now all i'll do is walk in say hi to Lisa and she knows what I want, their restaurant is very clean and bathrooms just as clean, my favorite is the chicken and broccoli but anything you get will be amazing! A family owned business with plenty of meal options. They serve their meals in big portions, usually enough for 2-3 people per order. I'd suggest trying their crab rangoon with a side of sweet and sour. As oppose to many of the comments i've seen on Yelp and Google, their service was good, and they were very friendly and helpful. After waiting 20 min past time to pickup I had to ask if they had forgotten my order which had already been paid for. I was told no. Give us 5 more mins. So in other words yes they had forgotten our order. No apology. Be honest!!! Just say "I'm sorry we forgot your order. We will have it made up right now. I give Great Wall Express a very high 3-star rating, which means I'm likely to revisit. The combination dinners are a great deal. For less than $8, you get fried or steamed rice, soup, and your choice of an egg roll, crab rangoon, or spring roll PLUS your main dish. This is enough food to share or eat over several meal periods. I ordered the General Tso's Chicken. While the sauce was perfectly sweet, the quality of the meat was questionable, like the fried chicken skin formed a lot of chewy bits??...but I find that most Chinese restaurants share this quality, so I'm not complaining. I'd order it again! The fried rice didn't taste or look fresh, but it was still good. The service was fast and friendly. Our 2 combination dinners were ready in 10 minutes. read more

Great wall is about as middle of the road as it gets, leaning towards the lower end of the spectrum. There's not that much to say about this place, as it doesn't stand much from the other Chinese restaurants of Kalamazoo, except in a few areas. Those few exceptions are important; however, the final decider for me is the taste of the food. I will start with the negative so that I can spend more time on the good. The food is low quality and bland. We both got chicken dishes and I found that mine only maintained the consistency of chicken for the first five minutes. After that, it became more of a mush mixed with the vegetables. After a day in the fridge, the leftovers became more of a soup with rice, rather than a chicken dish. But this is not that out of the ordinary for take-out. Did I enjoy the food? For a bit, sure. Will I go back for seconds? Probably not. But here are a couple reasons why you might check it out. The service was wonderful and friendly. The cashier clearly knew the menu well, and also knew his clientele, as he greeted regulars coming through the door. Finally (and perhaps the most important feature), you receive a veritable feast when you order a combination plate, complete with soup and an egg-roll. Unless you are ravenous, you'll have leftovers. To summarize, if you're a Chinese food connoisseur, pass this one by. If you're hungry and don't mind a little low quality chicken, check it out. read more

Tons of food, great tasting, I prefer the chicken fried rice over the typical fried rice, mostly because the peas and carrots suck. First time trying this place, and it didn't disappoint. We opted for General Tso chicken and Kung Bao chicken off of the lunch menu. Both dishes were what you come to expect from an Americanized Chinese restaurant. Portions were definitely plentiful, and the hot sour soup was the best I had since moving back to MI from CA. Tried this place for the fist time and we weren't impressed.. We ordered for a delivery and the guy taking our order didn't know much about the food! Every question I asked him ended with a "uhhhh... ummm... I'm sure it does..." We ordered shrimp lo mein, shrimp fried rice and szechuan shrimp with steamed rice. The shrimp lo mein was horrible! The noodles weren't the ones u get in lo mein it was more like they took a bunch of ramen noodles and threw it in and it was pretty dry. The fried rice were ok, but the szechuan shrimp were probably the best of the bunch except for the fact that I had to play Marco Polo with my shrimp since they were so few... I don't think I would order from here again.. If u want good Chinese food then I would recommend Hunan Gardens. read more

Most of my reviews are witty, helpful and positive. This is not one of those reviews. Nothing pisses me off more than being excited for dinner then being sidelined by garbage. I rarely order chinese take-out (now I'm remembering why) but some friends were ordering so I jumped in. I haven't had lo mein in quite sometime so I'm SUPER stoked....until it gets here. This is by far the WORST chicken lo mein I have ever had the displeasure of ordering. I wish I could give a lower rating. I even googled pics of chicken lo mein to verify I didn't come down with alzheimers and forgot what the **** I know lo mein to be. Chicken, big FAT lo mein noodles, garlic, scallions, sprouts, pee shoots. Instead I got chicken, some Calista Flockhart thin ass noodles, broccoli, carrots, onions and corn. After calling them, they insist that I DID get the lo-mein (they don't have the large lo-mein noodle). However, if it looks like chow mein, smells like chow mein and tastes like chow mein...guess what? It ain't lo mein.....MAN! Never again. BOOOOOOO! Rant over. read more

Good delivery, but the food wasn't good. The vegetables seemed like they hadn't been cooked hardly at all. The pineapple chicken was awful. I hardly ate any. If you just order appetizers, you will be pleased. We had eggflower soup,fried wontons and eggrolls that we really good. We should have stopped there. We both ordered the combination sweet and sour which was to have shrimp, pork and chicken. The pork and chicken were missing. Now just shrimp would have been ok, everyone makes mistakes, but they were the worst shrimp I've ever had. They were tough and tasted old. Plus the batter which is usually fairly light and crispy was a thick dough that was barely cooked all the way through. We also had the fried rice which tasted like that make it fresh on Monday for the whole week. (we ordered on Friday). Very disappointed. read more

This place is a hidden gem tucked away in an unassuming strip mall. It's a solid Chinese take out restaurant with an extensive menu of both classic and original Chinese dishes. It offers the rare combination of both quality and quantity. I had the the Jalapeno chicken which came in a generous portion size consisting of grilled chicken strips with fresh stir-fried vegetables and jalapenos. along with a side of rice, plenty of soy sauce packets, and two fortune cookies. The food was much fresher and I would wager to say healthier than the typical Chinese fare you find at buffets that often comes covered in a sticky, overly sweet and salty sauce. Here the chicken was main star of the dish and the wonderful grilled and seasoned flavor was allowed to shine through. I also got a drink and their soda fountain had a delightful orange soda that I've never seen anywhere else. I have ordered delivery here as well as picked up food. The food is always delicious, hot and ready. Delivery is never over 45" and usually 20". The food is in nice, sturdy containers then put in paper bad with a stapled bill on top. It has never leaked through. Staff are friendly, efficient, and courteous. read more
