I come here for classic Chinese-American staples at good lunch prices. The food is generally well-prepared but limited by that old school profile (white sauce/brown sauce, neon red sweet and sour, etc.). Sleeper standouts include fried dishes, especially the General Tso chicken, fluffy fried rice, and the hot and sour soup, which is, surprisingly, the best I've had anywhere, with a good punch of vinegar. I would avoid if you're looking for seafood, a less Americanized menu, or house-made BBQ pork or similar. I have been coming to this restaurant for years. The food has always been great and friendly service. Well not today. The food was awful. It's like they changed a couple recipes or are going cheap on ingredients. I asked a question about an item and the lady got mad at me for asking about ingredients. We told her our experience last time was bad because of the food wasn't the same. She thought I was trying to get something for free and was trying to argue with me. We were looking for Chinese food in West Linn area and this place popped up on Yelp. Our group (of 6) called and found out they were open for dine in. We made a reservation online and they had tables put together and set for us when we got there. It's kind of a hole in the wall place, that does a lot of take out, so they had boxes stacked in the back of the restaurant for large to go orders. The employee was extremely friendly and courteous. Chose to order here because of the great reviews and close proximity to our home. I'm sad to say we were disappointed and will not order from this restaurant again. The lady was very nice but the look of the place inside sends the wrong message to customers. No inside seating so it's basically used for storage with boxes of things all orotund and total disrepair. It's dirty and a shambles, totally makes you wonder what the kitchen looks like. The food was equally bad, I've had better Chinese from the freezer section. Our trash can had more than we did. Thick sauces, funny and stale tasting, almost like it was left overs reheated. My husband and I have been looking for a new Chinese restaurant as the one we had gone to for over 40 years sold, the new owners food was horrible. Anyway we finally found it. Ying Bun was excellent, well worth the drive to West Linn from Milwaukie for a to go order. The food was so yummy and even my husband commented that he just ate the best Chicken fried rice he had ever had. We would both recommend it very highly. We eat-in and take-out at Ying Bun after comparing to other Chinese restaurants in the area (West Linn, Portland, Milwaukie, etc.) Ying Bun's foods are reliably tasty, well-prepared and fresh. Today we will be ordering the Mongolian beef, moo shu pork, and crab fried rice. The portions are good-sized, so this will feed two hungry Portlanders with some leftovers for late-night TV watching. We highly recommend trying Ying Bun next time you hunger for excellent Chinese food in the West Linn area. read more

They is nothing overwhelming about Ying Bun, however it is in my neighborhood. Most people will probably find their food pretty standard Chinese-American fare. So while Ying Bun is maybe not worth traveling across the Portland area to visit, it does offer decent food at decent prices. Their combination dinners are reasonable and despite being a heavy eater, I can get 2-3 meals out of one. You may be able to talk them into some substitutions as well, something a little unusual in most Chinese restaurants. I am a huge fan of the BBQ Pork Lo Mein, the Lemon Chicken, Singapore Noodles, and Sauteed Green Beans. I have no complaints about the appetizers either. Finally, the server at the front of the house will greet you with a huge smile, and is always very glad to see you. It may not be gourmet food, but I will keep coming back here. read more

The food was delicious and the pricing can't be beat! I haven't found a Chinese restaurant that serves the traditional chow mein with the crunchy noodles in years and was so excited they had it! We ordered veggie chow mein and the flavor was amazing! Also, had the egg foo young and it was pretty good, not the best I've had but right up there. Finally tried this place out. Got the #12. Fried shrimp, BBQ pork, general chicken, egg flower soup and rice. I think it was $10 or $11. Food was good. Portions are very big. Two people could share it. Lady working was very nice and friendly. The picture showed half of the rice and chicken. Fried shrimp was not fishy. BBQ pork was ok. Little dry but they often are in restaurants that don't make large batches. General chicken was good. I got it mild. Might have to try a tad hotter. Egg flower soup was too salty.
