    Chile relleno
    Junior T.

I drive by this place every day for work and finally went to try this place on my lunch break. I walked in and was greeted right away from the cashier, young kid and he was respectful. It was at half capacity and wasn't loud. Nice n cold inside too. I ordered a Chile relleno plate, comes with rice, beans and choice of tortilla. This plate was really good! Probably one of my favorite places to get a chile relleno from. The rice was nice and soft, and the beans were cooked perfect(some places I've been got it too dry). For sit down, I will order a chile relleno everytime. If I am going by real quick, I get a carne asada burrito(carne asada, pico, guac)

Beef enchiladas with rice and beans

We've been wanting to try this place since we moved nearby. It's more of a bigger taco shop versus an actual restaurant. You order your food and pay up front then seat yourself. They will bring you food to you when it's ready. We ordered chips to start off. They have a good variety on their salsa bar. We had the rolled tacos which come with guacamole and shredded cheese, we had beef. Super fresh and delicious. Carne asada torta was huge, meat was very authentic. Chile relleno and a shredded beef enchilada with rice and beans! Husband approved as he is very particular with his food and said it tasted great! Everything was fresh, hot, and very authentic. I would choose this place versus the taco shop in Anza anytime. Not that they aren't good but Yiliberto's is way better. Prices are decent and portions are big. We didn't finish our food. Quaint little atmosphere.

A local spot between Temecula and the desert on the long curvy road we all just want to get over. But hey, we need a bite right? And this spot fit the bill perfectly! In a mostly empty strip mall and I'm assuming it's run by a really hard working local family.... It's a great spot for a break and a bite. My chicken tacos were perfect as well as the chips and salsa. All fresh and served with a huge smile! I love these places! Just like everyone that walked out said.... "See you soon!" I agree!

Just moved to Anza and I've been seeing this place on my way home so I stopped by and got a California burrito. It was good and the staff was friendly too, the salsa bar is a plus, and the guacamole salsa was fire too

How do you give a hole-in-the-wall Mexican joint a 5? That's a hard call and it better be OMG good. Yilberto's isn't write-home good, but it's worth a visit. It was only me, so I ordered the carne asada plate. Beans, rice and asada were similar to what I've had at dozens of other places, served with some meaty corn tortillas. The best thing was the medium salsas (both the red and the green), which had some lingering heat. Also liked the homemade carrots, though one was a bit mushy. I'll likely be back at some point and will check out the flour tortillas, the chips and salsa and perhaps a taco. But for now, 4 stars for some decent food, friendly service and a good view of the valley and surrounding hills.

The most fire mexican food restaurant we could find while road tripping to chuckwalla valley.

Idyllwild, sitting above 5,000 feet, presents a stark contrast to the low desert region of the Colardo desert where Palm Springs is located. On recommendation of a local shop owner we chose La Casita for lunch. It is located in a quaint venue that looks nothing like a Mexican restaurant. The articture is what I would call mountain cabin, with much of the walls and ceiling covered in pine with a large rock fireplace. The food was excellent as was the service. I ordered a chili releno ala carte and it was excellent. Jan ordered the tamale dinner and thoroughly enjoyed it. They serve Roberto's jalapeño and olive oil sauce. Roberto's Sauce is a vegan, and gluten-free, Peruvian aji amarillo-inspired hot sauce with a unique Japanese influence, featuring fresh jalapeno and serrano chilis. Very nice! We purchased a bottle in the restrauant and it is available on line. If you are ever in Palm Spring I recommend a trip to Idyllwild and a mea at La Casita.

The parking lot is small, so you might be parking on the street. There's plenty of street parking. SERVICE 5-stars Great service. Host. Food runners. Wait staff. All did great despite being slammed at lunch service. FOOD This is average good. Seems like some canned or frozen vegetables. Rice was not particularly exciting - a bit on the dry side. BEANS were well seasoned. Olive oil & Jalepeno salsa was 5 stars! Portions are Generous. VEGAN from Vegetarian menu. Most offerings in their vegetarian section can be made vegan by asking for "no dairy" Steamed chicken was tender, but no flavor. Their salsa (olive oil + jalepeno) saved the chicken. The outdoor patio is a lovely way to spend the afternoon. They allow pets outside on the patio. You may have to wait for tables along the edge to open up. PRICE You are a tourist supporting this beautiful little town. Enjoy eating out if you're in the mood for some touristy Mexican faire. Close to the center of town by foot.

Service was amazing, so quick to come out with fresh chips and salsa (FRESH! as in they made the chips in-house... rare trait to come by these days IMO). Quantity of food was incredible. I can't speak for the menudo (dad got this) or for the 3 egg platter (not really sure why my mom got this) but $16 for a carne asada burrito as well as the beans, rice, and veggies on the side was such a steal. Especially in Anza Borrego. I would've thought it would maybe be more expensive since it probably costs a lot to bring out the best ingredients in the desert but somehow they have it all figured out. The carne asada burrito meat was top tier. Smoky flavor, soft with charred edges, so flavorful and overall the quantity of the burrito was way more than I was expecting. Lastly, I'm just so happy my dog got to sit outside with us. They have a shaded patio with a couple tables. I think other pet parents followed suit, as this seems to be a hit for dog-friendly spots here in Anza Borrego. I'd highly recommend. What a great find by me. Go me!! This is truly a hole in the wall that needs more recognition. You won't be let down!

*Mi Casa es Su Casa*…read more My buddy had a small casual bday get-together with his family and invited me to join the celebration. I saw all the favorable reviews on Yelp and was looking forward to my first visit at Casa Mendoza. Very chill & lively family owned Mexican joint in Old Town LQ. The place was kinda busy @6:30pm on Hump Night ~~ always a great sign when I see this. Felt more like a Sunday Evening. It took an hour to receive our meals. Ordered @6:45 arrived @7:45pm. Good thing the Chimichanga & Gauc apps arrived pretty quickly. The Gauc was Excellente. All their food was very good. But all our meals arrived cold/lukewarm. Took forever to receive our food and we knew for a fact it's because all our plates sat a while until we were served. The actual plates weren't even warm and the sizzling fajitas had sizzled out and lost its dazzle. Because it was still 95 degrees when dinner was finally served, our lukewarm meals were doable on a hot night. Everyone did enjoy their meals tho. I was very pleased with my Mahi Mahi in Garlic Butter Sauce. The refried beans were outstanding. The rice very good...and I made tacos with the 3 corn tortillas. But would have enjoyed it even more had all the food been a little warmer. I stuck with H2O but all margarita drinkers said their drinks were good and hit the spot on a warm night. The service in general was also inconsistent for our small party of 8. The Birthday Boy was a little frustrated and got up a few times from his throne seeking assistance -- such as missing tortillas for meals, water refills, extra napkins. We even had to wait longer than anticipated for them to acknowledge the bday boy with a celebratory bday song & sombrero...and the fried ice cream, which didn't include a candle. Tho we all enjoyed ourselves and time together...a 2 hour dinner at a Mexican joint on a Wednesday night wasn't what we anticipated. Especially with one restless 7 year old ;-) But everyone working at Casa Mendoza is very friendly with great attitudes. Hostess team, waiters, servers & runners too. So that made up for the spotty service, just a little bit. Since I'm closer to the other Casa Mendoza in Palm Desert, I'd go there in the future with my wife, and order the exact same thing. But hope for much better service and warmer food.
