I was skeptical walking in since I've never heard of this place before. I haven't seen a sushi restaurant that also sells small groceries (noodles, Japanese snacks, sauces like sriracha), so that was a bit odd to me at first. I ordered the crab & cucumber roll, salmon avocado roll, tuna avocado roll, and Philadelphia roll. Each roll was SO GOOD and filled with a big chunk of fish. My only complaint was that I wish the sushi was slightly colder (it came out kind of warm), but nonetheless it was still worth it for the price. Definitely coming back here again! read more

I order at Yi's pretty often. I would spend around $60 to $70 each time. Tonight, I have had enough of the guy who takes the orders over the phone. He has a unnecessary smart mouth that comes of as condescending and passive aggressive. The food here is good, I don't think the owner speaks English well, and I'm sure owner doesn't know what a douche bag the guy he hired is to his customers, the one who takes the orders. The guy who takes the orders is the only non Asian guy that works there. Does he think he work at a high end, exclusive, sushi spot in Bayonne? Give me a break! Picked up food here. The food itself was okay, perhaps a 3 or 3.5. The person taking orders and bagging was the perfect representative of who should NOT be serving people (9/26 at 330p if the owner cares). Beyond never thanking customers, he openly glared at those who inquired about their late orders, and made no effort to apologize for the delay. I ALWAYS tip 20% - even if it's takeout but service here will make me rethink that when I visit elsewhere - because Yi Sushi is off the list. read more

The only sushi in Bayonne I've ever liked is from Shop Rite but the sushi bar there closes early so if you go after work they're closed and what's left in their refrigerator is almost always sold out after 6pm or so. They definitely have the best sushi, and the rolls are HUGE, hence the really high price but worth it...until I found this place, Yi Sushi. I've tried other places in Bayonne and the rolls are usually tiny and overpriced for the size (see my previous review for Joe's Kitchen) I'd never even heard of Yi Sushi although I've passed it a million times on Broadway. I saw the good reviews here so I thought I'd give it a shot but figured the rolls would be tiny so I ordered 2. When I went to pick it up the price seemed like a BOGO free, since it was the price I usually paid for ONE roll at the Shop Rite Sushi Bar. I thought they made a mistake but nope, 2 rolls were the almost the same price as one roll in Shop Rite. Great customer service and not that most people would eat in, the place is cute inside and really cute from the outside plus a huge parking lot. I can't believe I just found this place. When you first walk into this place you may be surprised to only see 2 tables, but if you're in the area I suggest you take a seat! First of all the service was excellent, all smiles and constant making sure everything was meeting our expectations. Both my boyfriend and I started with miso soups, the biggest we've ever had in a restaurant! For about $2 each we were pleasantly surprised by the size of the bowls. They were loaded with seaweed and tofu, definitely the best I've had. We had four rolls, all excellent! We had 3 specialty rolls but even our usual Philadelphia roll was much better than most places. My five year old granddaughter wanted sushi, she loves it. (Unfortunately I cant eat it because I am severely allergic to all shellfish.) I googled sushi places in the area and found Yi Sushi with a statement that it is "the best sushi in Bayonne" whoever said that was right!  I ordered salmon rolls and California rolls, her favorites, and she loved them! Everything looked so fresh, my son and DIL saw the pics and said wow that looks great. My granddaughter already said that she wants to go back and try the salmon sashimi.  Yes, she is only five but she has been eating sushi for years and is somewhat of a food critic at her young age.  The gentleman at the register was extremely nice and the gentleman who made the sushi was also extremely nice.  I had explained that I cant eat sushi and wasn't sure what or how to order and he was very patient and helpful. I spoke to a customer there and asked if he had been there before and he said many times, at least once a week, and confirmed its the best sushi in Bayonne. So happy to have found Yi Sushi, I will be going back with my granddaughter and her parents who love sushi as well.  Try this place, you will not be disappointed! read more

Their "special rolls" aren't thatttt special (if you're looking for super cool and hipster rolls lol) i feel like I can find more creative rolls somewhere else but the reason why i'm giving it 5 stars is because the rolls are super fresh. The ShopRite sushi has become really low quality lately. I know they opened up a new restaurant but the sushi there really took a turn for the worst! Fishy, low quality tasting.
