I am absolutely amazed how caring and paying attention to details Sung Yi is, and I must write another review about Sung Yi and his wonderful accounting services. Recently I downloaded my 2019 tax return via portal to prepare for a pandemic business relief fund program and I had such a hard time figuring out the operating revenue and cost for various quarters in different years in the application. To my total surprise, shortly Sung emailed me that he noticed I accessed the portal for some tax files and wondered if there was anything that he could help. Literally within minutes of a few emailing, Sung responded that he can sort out the numbers for me in 2 days. The response and problem solving time were so prompt and much faster than I could anticipated. I have been a long time customer with Sung for my business and personal taxes and accounting needs. It is very heartwarming to learn that he cares for a customer and his/her accounting needs, and treats him/her with an enthusiasm, integrity, and professionalism the same way he has since the first day a business relationship started. read more

BEST CPA ever!! I never thought I'd have fun doing taxes - until I hired Sung to help me with mine! He made the whole process so easy that all I had to do was sign at the end. As a 1099 independent contractor, I had no idea where to even being. He explained the entire tax situation to me and made me feel more at ease with what I had to deal with. He was extremely helpful, patient and understanding!! He was very prompt in responding to my emails, and even more efficient when it came to actually preparing what I needed to file. He maximized my returns and helped me understand what needed to be done after I filed. There was no shady business with Sung - everything was done by the book. He prepared a well-presented professional booklet of my return for my personal keep. He went through my tax return line-by-line, showing me where all the numbers came from and explained it in a way that made sense. I was VERY impressed by his level of professionalism and his friendliness as well. Definitely going to keep seeing him for all my accounting needs - as well as upcoming investment needs. read more

Wow! I just called thinking I would be an early entry to complete my personal 2013 returns in 2014......nope! They're all booked! I don't want to give a 1 star for that purpose because that's not fair so I'll just give 5 stars because they have to be doing something right if you can't even get in for next year! So if you want to get your 2013 personal returns done just an FYI they're not taking on any new clients until after May 2014, this means you'll have to automatically file extensions for your 2013. But I liked the way they immediately called me to advise me this. Very professional so far! I'll just get an early start in 2014 for 2015! read more

A little disappointed. Left a voice mail last week to inquire about his services, but never received a call back. It's unfortunate that so many businesses today forget that the initial phone call is the potential new customer's first interaction with, and first impression of, the company. read more

He is a BEST tax preparer! We all work hard for out money, Sung will help you keep it! Here are just a few reasons I am a loyal client for many years: 1. He maximizes your tax preparation so you get the most money back! 2. He patiently explains your taxes questions and report. 3. He is so knowledgeable and experienced, I recommend him for anyone with a simple to even a more complicated tax situation. Also he also has done an excellent job with my investments! My previous investment agent only met with me 1x. He was not approachable so I had no idea what he was investing with my money. Sung is the complete opposite. Sung is diligent, organized, personable, and welcoming to answer and explain how my investments are doing. He makes sure they are doing well. read more

I think it can be really frustrating and difficult to find a CPA you can trust and be satisfied with. I randomly found Sung through Yelp earlier this year after panicking when I realized how quickly the due date was approaching. It was the best decision I could have made to contact him! Sung answered all of my questions, was extremely knowledgeable, and actually seemed to care. The only hesitation for me was that he was a little out of my budget, BUT I have not regretted going with Sung, ESPECIALLY when just recently I was contacted by the IRS because my CPA from my previous year left me hanging and messed me up! Sung was quick to help me resolve a situation that could have gotten ugly. I am so so so glad I found him through Yelp! read more

I agree with what everyone else says: Sung is really great. He is more knowledgeable than the IRS or the online programs by Turbo Tax and H&R Block. Seriously, I usually do my taxes and my mother-in-law's because she has alzheimer's so we have power of attorney. Well, that can be pretty difficult and I always put it off til the last minute. I wind up taking a week off work in April to complete them. Problem with my 2011 return was that we had sold our condo which we "rented" to our son and his wife for about a year. They were only paying what we would pay to keep it going, like dues and taxes. Never having sold a property, that was confusing enough, but throw in, the word "rental" and it gets way worse. I wound up filing for an extension. This just gave me until Oct 15 to realize I just couldn't handle it. I got conflicting results with online H&R Block program vs. Turbo Tax, reading Publications, and several calls to the IRS. After checking Yelp, and finding all these good reviews, I called Sung. Of course, this was like Oct 5! and cpa's are very busy, which I didn't realize. He was so cool though. He asked my problem and tried to help me over the phone! But I didn't trust myself or these online programs and felt doomed. Sung must have sensed this because he squeezed me in and I am sooooo glad he did. I feel fantastic about the whole process with Sung. He told me up front what it would likely cost. And when it turned out he worked longer on it than would have been covered by the quote, he stuck to his quote. He is very intelligent and a regular guy too. Thumbs way up! read more

This was my first year I went to Yi & Co. CPA and I am so impressed with the work done and the quality delivered that I intend on returning next year. Sung was responsive to my questions and provided peace of mind this tax year. He was able to find areas that I was being doubly taxed and advised me on simple legal ways I could protect gross income. During the debriefing session, he provided me a professionally developed report of my 2011 tax profile and went through a line-by-line review of the report so that I was able to fully understand deductions, tax bracket, as well as areas of improvement for next tax season. I will not hesitate to recommend Sung's accounting expertise to friends and family and look forward to returning to Yi & Co. CPA next year/subsequent years. read more

Two years ago we carefully selected Yi & Co. to help us with our tax returns. After having been with another tax accountant for several years, it was rather difficult to seek out change. However, change was required - due to poor service and the lack of communication from our previous tax accountant. The bottom line was - I was tired of being treated like a number. Selecting a tax accountant is no easy task. I performed my due diligence before selecting Yi & Co. I called Yi & Co. and interviewed Sung Yi, Principle of Yi & Co. The personal touch he offered by treating his potential and current clients is above the cut. In addition, his academic credentials and world life experience, not only make him a valued service partner - but the knowledge & experience he is able to offer is a unique profile that will ultimately be able to help you understand your current financial standings and most importantly your future goals. Sung Yi, is an incredibly intelligent and an experienced individual. He has earned my family's trust, respect and I considered him not only to be business partner but a friend. I advise anyone looking for a change to interview Sung Yi. -Steve R. read more

Sung is amazing! End of story. I had a pretty rough situation with our taxes and Sung was so knowledgable, understanding and helpful. He took the time to explain everything to us without using "tax terminology." He is THE GUY to go to. Prices are unbeatable. He is our go to guy!!!! No need to second guess. Make an appointment and go see him! Thank you, Sung! read more

Exceptional service and absolute professionalism every time I utilize his tax services!!! Sung has filed for me and my wife for the last 4 years and he has not disappointed in any way. He is extremely knowledgeable and articulate in being able to explain the tax complexities and nuances that would otherwise be difficult for the average person to understand and file on their own. As a client, he returns all my phone calls promptly and takes the time to explain and review all my inquiries. I've used three other CPA's before coming to Sung and he is by far the best. I've also noticed that those reviews that rated him low because he cannot take any more clients for the seasons tells me that there is a good reason why he's booked all year. He is simply the BEST!!! read more

I came to Yi & Co. CPA via a friend's referral & I'm happy that I did. Sung Yi was very professional & answered every single question with details, making sure I understood everything before continuing to the next step. I felt very comfortable with his process & this tax season was a painless one. The office is located on the corner of Culver & Barranca, next to Islands Restaurant so it was quite convenient. read more

This is our third tax year going to Yi & Co. to do our taxes and we will definitely be back next year. I had been going through CPAs year after year, never finding one I could trust, but that all ended with Sung. Not only is he trust worthy, but he was able to maximize our return. He truly knows what he is doing and knows the ins and outs of the tax industry. He is very patient and doesn't just want to get you in and out of the office. He will thoroughly explain your tax documentation and answer any questions you might have. Like others have stated here, he wants to make sure you really understand it. My wife and I work Monday through Saturday and the only real day for both of us to meet with him is usually on Sunday. That was a non issue. He gladly met up with us on a Sunday to do our taxes. Sung really goes that extra mile for his customers. I definitely recommend Sung and Yi & Co. not only to friends and family, but to anyone in need of a diligent, professional, and trustworthy CPA. read more

Sung deserves the 5 stars and then some! I found Sung through Yelp and my husband and I couldn't have been happier with his friendly, quick, efficient service. He took us on as new clients despite the fact that he had a major deadline to meet for all of his existing clients and it being very last minute. He found more money than we anticipated getting back on our return (more than double) AND went over line by line of our return with me. I left understanding everything clearly and feeling extremely comfortable with all that he explained to me. His service was top notch and he's an extremely competent CPA. He was a bit on the pricier side than what I was anticipating to pay, but I gotta admit that it felt like he was worth every single penny. Now filing our taxes don't seem so daunting and we'll be returning next year knowing that we are in excellent hands. Thank you Sung! :) read more

Owning a growing business, it was crucial to find a CPA that we could trust and one that would help us grow the company. Our previous CPAs weren't interested in what we did and only talked to us once a year during tax season. So finding someone who could consult with us beyond taxes was very important to us. Sung and Yi & Company came in cleaned up our books from mistakes from our previous tax returns, reviewed our current finances, setup our payroll, 401k, and is now our one stop shop for our accounting needs. Yi & Company are genuinely interested in what we do, how we do it, and why we do it. They help us look beyond the day to day business and force us to look forward to the next quarter, to the next year, to the ten years to make sure we have our plan in place to succeed. Throughout the year they'll call to see how the business is doing and if there are big direction changes that may affect your books. While always professional, they are always easy to talk to, and you ask questions that you may think are stupid but you never feel stupid asking them to Yi & Company. read more

I rarely write online reviews. However, my experience with Yi & Co was so positive that I want to make sure everyone knows. This year was my first using Yi & Co. for my tax preparations, and it turned out to be a great choice! In fact, I wish I had known about Sung Yi sooner. He is knowledgeable, efficiently organized, and friendly. Based on my experience, it's clear that Sung has a genuine respect for his clients as people and handles their business with complete professionalism. Although I made the decision to use Yi & Co. fairly late in the tax season, Sung quickly and calmly sorted through my messy personal files during our first meeting. His pleasant demeanor put me at ease within minutes of walking into his office and, by the end of our initial meeting, Sung's quiet confidence confirmed my taxes were in good hands. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Yi & Co. and, in fact, I have already done so. read more

Five stars all the way! I was referred to Sung and it was the right decision to visit him. I'm impressed with the clarity and thoroughness Sung explains everything. Compared to the CPAs (big firms and expensive) I have visited, no one comes close to Sung's service. He is so knowledgeable and sincerely cares about the individual. I'd say he is a perfectionist when it came to my tax return. No stone remained unturned and I left knowing that with Sung's expertise all profits and losses as well as income and expense are accounted for. With Sung I have found my CPA for life. I do not believe there are too many or any CPAs who as competent as Sung. He has my full trust and loyalty. read more

Met Mr. Sung when I was searching for a CPA in the Irvine area. He has been our CPA for about a year now. He does our personal & corporate taxes. He explains everything very well and to our understanding. He answers all our questions regarding taxes as well and is very professional. His rate would be on the higher side compared to others but we would still stick to him since he definitely knows what he is doing and he does it very well. read more

Honest business. It takes an honest business to turn down extra clients. I don't see why people leave 1 star reviews just because they reach full capacity of clients. That's a good sign, a crooked business will keep taking more people than it can handle, if they don't throttle their customer flow to accountant ratio things won't get done. Take this as a good sign, as a business owner I can respect that. read more

In previous years, I had used various tax software to prepare my own taxes since I did not have particularly complicated finances. The first time in many years, I decided to seek out best financial advice I could find, and upon reading excellent reviews of Yi and Co, I decided to try them out. As with other reviewers, I found Sung to be completely trustworthy, competent, patient and thorough in listening and understanding your financial situation, and have every confidence that his advice and judgement is sound. In addition, he has surrounded himself with a strong network of professionals that can provide a myriad of financial services that are first class. The peace of mind of having the best financial team behind you is well worth the expense (which in my opinion is very fair). Although it appears from other reviews he may not be accepting new clients as we near the tax deadline this year, I would not hesitate to recommend his services.. start gathering your records and get in early for next year! read more

Sung is an amazing CPA. I had to file taxes for three years and he was able to get me a great tax refund. He is very thorough and professional with his work and will make sure that you are taken care of. Thanks Sung! read more

Sung has prepared my taxes for the past 3 years and I couldn't ask for a better experience. He is trustworthy, very knowledgable, and always goes the extra mile to make sure I understand my options. This review is long overdue. I rave about Sung to everyone willing to listen because he was instrumental in helping take our "mom and pops" type clinic and growing it to a multi-site clinic with a strong corporate and financially stable backbone. He also rescued my financial situation on a personal level, as I was deeply affected by the recession. I was hesitant at first to pay for financial advise because I thought I could do things on my own, but the little investment in having him advise me personally and professionally has yielded a return on investment 10 times over. I have complete trust in him as he discloses all fees and relationships with financial institutions upfront. I highly recommend him without any reservations for your business and personal financial guidance and tax planning. read more

I initially consulted with Sung Yi for guidance regarding a specific tax matter. The level of communication and quality of service was excellent. All of my questions were answered in a precise, comprehensive and timely manner. Sung exceeded my expectations and earned my trust. My old CPA asked me to give him my year end numbers, but never attempted to give me advice or strategize. I highly recommend his services. It has made a difference for me. read more

Well, I agree with everyone's review on Sung. We are new to the area and procrastinated on finding a tax preparer, despite our somewhat complicated situation. I decided to contact Sung after reading all of the yelp reviews, and I was glad that we went to him. Extremely professional, patient and thorough in his explanations. He started his own company after leaving a large West LA practice to relocate to Irvine, so he has solid experience. After going to Sung, I understand why everyone has given him 5 stars! read more

We've been going to Sung for the past couple of years for our taxes and he's been a pleasure to work with. He's always done a thorough job and goes into great detail when reviewing them with us. This was our second year that we had our taxes done by Sung and it will certainly not be the last. Here's why: 1. Sung was proactive in contacting us this year to get the ball rolling on filing. If he had not done that we probably would have filed last minute. 2. What was once a gray area in understanding our tax situation, Sung analyzed our info and presented the data in black and white. He made it so much easier to understand. 3. Sung has provided us with sound advice to help us move toward a better financial position. 4. Character and consistency is key. I have been audited by the IRS in my younger years due to an extremely unscrupulous accountant I had when I was in my early 20s. $50,000 in taxes owed later and surviving the personal hell of going through an audit has made me extremely selective when choosing an accountant. I needed someone responsible, honest, and knowledgeable. I needed someone who would tackle my somewhat complicated returns (1120s/Schedule C) and factor in all of my write offs exactly to the T, so that I could feel confident in knowing that if the IRS came a knockin' again, I'd be ready. I have literally become obsessive with record keeping and I needed someone patient enough to wade through my stacks of paperwork and find me every last deduction. I found Sung last year and will not trust anyone with my accounting needs ever again. He is patient, knows everything there is to know, and takes the time to explain to you in a way that makes sense. He advises on how to best set your business up for the future given the nature, size and scope of your business, and goes above and beyond just preparing your taxes. I work in finance and have seen so many sloppy returns done, but with Sung, I never had to worry. I am so thankful to have found him and will continue to use him for all of my businesses now and in the future. read more

I'm a man with a few words and I don't usually share my thoughts, but my positive experiences compelled me to write these lines. Sung is a very educated CPA and I learned quite a bit from him in my first visit. He is a wonderful listener and attentive to my needs. My questions were answered in detailed and my tax paper explained thoroughly. Sung is friendly, easy-to-talk-to, and he knows his stuff. I trust Sung with his expertise, but most importantly, I trust Sung because he is an ETHICAL person! Sung served his community and his country in Iraq as a military officer. His background is impressive and his ethical values is likewise. I trust Sung with my taxes and I shall return again next tax season. read more

My first time using an accountant to help with my annual tax reporting because my situation was a bit complicated from previous year. Sung Yi and Company was recommended to me by a friend. Before going, I was a bit skeptical. To my surprise on our first meeting, he was very patient in hearing why I felt my situation was a bit complicated. I was expecting he would meet for 30 minutes, but we end up discussing for almost 2 hours. He answered all my questions and told me everything up front as to what additional info he needed from me and what he can do for me. What I like most about him is the time he took to explain things to me. Making sure I really understand it. After all the paperwork was done, he was very organize. He helped me save so much more than what I would if I did it myself. Would I recommend him? Without a doubt! If you are looking for someone who is honest, straightforward, patient to listen and educate you on the way, give Sung Yi a call. read more

If I could give 6 stars, I certainly would. I don't find enough time to post reviews to deserving business owners but I really felt it was important to do so in this case as Sung has made my life (as far as taxes and finances are concerned) SO Easy and I think it's good karma to share him with others...We're all in the same position - looking for someone we can trust and count on to handle things in one of the most private, important and sometimes impossible to understand parts of our lives. Sung earned my trust, respect and loyalty forever. Working with him is always a smooth process (though I cannot say I made it easy on him in return!) and he is very clear with explanations, very thorough and detailed as well as kind and patient. He went above and beyond to ease my worries when I found my taxes had been filed incorrectly and is impeccable with keeping in communication and sending reminders when necessary! He is definitely an asset to my health and financial well being...saving money, stress & time. I couldn't be more grateful. I strongly encourage everyone to meet with and interview someone in such a profoundly important role in your life as managing your finances - in fact meet a few people and make an educated decision on who feels best & is most experienced with what you need, just be sure to include Sung in that set of interviews, I did my research and I did not have to settle for less than best. read more

I have always been able to do my own taxes, but this year after purchasing property I had to find a trustworthy company to do them for me. I was referred to Yi & Co. by a friend and I am extremely happy that I went there. I could only meet on the weekend and Sung made himself available to me so I could meet him in person before giving him all of my private financial statements. He was friendly and patient with all of my questions. This company uses top of the line security servers, so I was able to upload documents at my convenience without having to go back in person (I don't live close). This will be more efficient for me to do for future tax endeavors. Upon completion, Sung sat down and spoke to me over the phone and went over each document using an online program so I could see exactly what he was talking about. He was able to walk me through the confusing process and give me recommendations on my withholdings. Sung went above and beyond my expectations and made a difficult concept easy to understand. I would definitely continue to do business with this company and highly recommend it to others. read more
