Old pub in small village of Frieth near Henley upon Thames with lots of low beams, big old fireplace and character forming touches.Wanted to try somewhere new and had seen this place last summer and it looked nice so booked up for Sunday lunch on our weekend trip to the countryside.
Started off well with good selection of draught beers and quickly shown to our table along with a menu. We deliberately booked an early time as we had planned a busy afternoon but I think the problems stemmed from the fact that so had lots of other people and the place was full to the rafters.Only two guys waiting table so 3 out of 10 for service as it took over 90 minutes to get 2 courses. So if you are planning to eat here - don't be in a hurry! If you do have plenty of time and are not worried by long waits between courses then the food is excellent. Including two drinks with the meal and two courses it worked out to £19 per head so not inexpensive but the roast beef I choose was a good portion and very enjoyable. In particular the accompanying seasonal vegetable choice worked well and the roast potatoes were just right. So nothing wrong on that front. If they could smarten up their service it could get a highly recommended. read more
