The mains, nothing to write home about. Steak frites was cold as was the accompanying peppercorn sauce, although the steak was cooked well. Duck was dry. The lady that served us was lovely. Toilets well presented and clean. Shame as it's setting is nice and you want to really like the place. It's not somewhere I'd have on the list for a return visit.

I have no idea what the prior incarnation of this pub was like, but the current one certainly ticks…read moreall the boxes for me: kitschy taxidermy, spectacular ceiling metalwork and chandelier, absurd art in the toilets, and one of the better Sunday roasts I've had in London. Oh, and they have a television, which I probably wouldn't have noticed except for the fact that Murray/Federer match was on and everyone was enthralled. On one hand, my lamb roast was absolutely beautiful. At about £14 (if memory serves), it was the right amount of food to be heartily satisfying. The meat was perfectly tender and kicked up a notch by the mint sauce which came with it. I also sampled some of my tablemates' horseradish sauce and was impressed by the kick - they don't mess around! Meanwhile, I made the mistake of ordering the gazpacho. I really couldn't distinguish it much from just straight-up tomato juice with some salt in it. I'm used to my gazpacho having some consistency and thickness to it. This was watery and unexciting. Even throwing all of the garnishes in (diced tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers) didn't help that much. I probably shouldn't have ended my meal with this, as it was utterly underwhelming. At this point, I was far too full to consider actually enjoying a dessert, but they do offer a cheese board that caught my eye. Another time - definitely glad to have this joint as a wonderful Sunday roast alternative after climbing at The Castle!

We have been coming to the Kent for years including Christmas Day…read more We were there for lunch on Monday with family and our dog and it was very quiet, in fact the inside of the pub was empty. The young lady behind the bar was rude, unwelcoming with an air of superiority. Our dog was on her lead and sniffing around, as dogs do, and she abruptly said to keep control of her. I replied she's on a lead! We ordered lunch and sat in the garden the same girl brought our food out and told us to get our own cutlery pointing somewhere across the pub garden. We then ordered some tea and they had no milk - what restaurant has no milk. There's a Coop 2 minutes up the road. A gentleman came out and asked if we had a car parked in the pub, again very unfriendly, when he found the couple, he abruptly told them to move their car. They left. If you don't enjoy working in a customer service role, do something else or train your staff on how to treat people. I have had great service from young gentlemen in the past, but we will not be coming back to have a sunny day's lunch ruined by appalling service. Go to the Village in or The Drayton Court.

Literally I could spend hours and hours walking round this pub looking at all the posters and quotes layering the walls. Highlights are definitely the Marvel wall and don't even get me started on the Elvis toilet and the female icon wall in the toilet (yey). Sadly, we didn't have a full meal but we did try the chips and cheese and the apple crumble which we're both good. Shout out to their creamy homemade mayonnaise, seriously give it a try! I will be back to try their roast and spend another merry Sunday afternoon here.

Inside this great style is continued as The Alma makes a use of its cavernous structure to create several distinct seating areas littered with sofa's and old wooden tables. A walled patio area outside offers even more seating as well as a bit of comfort for smokers. The Alma also fancies itself a bit 'gastro' and has a great food menu which changes regularly. Though I found it a bit expensive for breakfast, my Eggs Benedict were lovely. With food like this and such a buzzing atmosphere The Alma is a must try for everyone!

We went in on a Saturday night for dinner and it wasn't too crowded. We started with the British cheese plate - the cheese portions were a bit small but all were exceptional. We tried the Stilton, tunworth and the cheddar. The caramelized onions were also delicious. I enjoyed a Hugo spritz and the lamb roast...it was such a beautiful plate. The saltiness, the different textures, the perfectly cooked meat - I truly will be thinking about that dish for days to come. My family tried the fish and chips, and the mushroom and leek pie (also YUM!). Service was relaxed but hospitable - again, I will be thinking of this place often and am sad we only went on my last night in town!

The usual food, in fact pretty much the same menu as at all of them I think. The quality has been a bit hit and miss for me, though their burgers are decent. Still, it is pretty good value as they do a two course menu for £10.
