We (2 of us) had 3 courses each, 2 sides and 3 alcohol drinks for £100 which is good going around here. For starters we had the crab terrine with smoked paprika aioli (special) and the king scallops with swordfish and cream sauce. These were the best dishes of the evening. Light and sumptuous! For mains we had fillet steak and the rib eye! Both very nice, and good portions. We finished off with a sticky toffee pudding and apricot sorbet! All of this washed down with a couple of glasses of rose prosecco and a well priced glass of Chenin Blanc. We would have rated 5 stars if it weren't for the steak being a bit overdone and the scallops being more queenie than king but this didn't detract from a lovely meal and evening. We'll be back!

Empty glasses left on tables far too long and empty food plates seemed to take ages to clear away. The Indian food which is competitiely priced is rather bland considering most of the clientele are Indian here, everyone in my group who ordered food said the food is always bland, but the sauces provided do help give the food a bit more flavour. Decent sized car park available, live sports on TV and pool tables to keep customers entertained also make this a decent enough local pub.

I'll explain why and try to be concise. The cuisine is exceptional. There's a good selection of quality drinks. The service is excellent. The atmosphere is always friendly and welcoming -- the sort of place where complete strangers tend to strike-up conversation. The location is perfect, overlooking the Village Green, with a big beer garden behind, and a vast playing field behind that. It's a lovely village, nestled in the gently-undulating farming landscape of rural north-east Herts -- no wonder Braughing was recently awarded the prestigious "Village of the Year" accolade. The pub's menu always includes the best of local produce, from locally-reared beef to local pork sausages, alongside popular country pub dishes. (Braughing village is famous for, among other things, the delicious local sausages, and this is a good place to sample them.) Did I mention the pies? A different pie every day it seems, and you won't find better pies than these. I don't make a statement like that lightly.

She was in a bit of a panic and was shouting at some of her staff, which made us feel a bit on edge. I had read the reviews about the food being really good, however, we never got to try it as when we tried to order, she had closed the kitchen - we were very disappointed especially as we had only gone inside the pub about 15 mins beforehand to pick up the menu and no one had advised us to order our food then as the kitchen was about to be closed! We made do with a cheese burger from the barbeque which was very tasty. We then decided to leave and rang the cab company to take us back to our hotel (same taxi company, Goddards) but he wanted to charge us £15 and said that "they had a special rate with the hotel" - yeah the rip off rate!!! We refused to pay it and decided to go to The Crown next door who arranged a taxi for us at a lower rate. Therefore I conclude, picturesque pub, great local festival but shame about the landlady and that we never got to taste the food and beware fo the local cab companies!!!

As so many of us we had used the website to pre-order our meals and although they were very busy we were shown to our table spot on time. Service was excellent and food served piping hot and very nicely presented.More celebrity chef than country pub but nice sized portions and tasted as good as it looked. Loved the chips - more like a small pile of logs!- and the local bred steak was praised highly by our resident steak eater as was the fish course. In fact virtually everyone was pleased with their individual choices and the cheesecake pudding won the sweet round. Worked out to £26 per head when the bill came which was not bad as everyone had at least two courses and that also included wine, water and beers at dinner.
