Yup...definitely worth returning to! I came here last night as I was "home alone", yet I somehow wanted to be among other people. So I hopped on the #210, which departs right in front of my house and drops me off right in front of this lovely local pub! And when I walked in, I immediately felt completely at ease and welcome. The very generous space offers a variety of seating opportunities: sofas for a group of up to 8 people; seats in the bay-window that allow you to watch the people passing by; the bar, which in fact is huge, or the slightly more formal dining area, which appealed to me very much and which is also one of the reasons that I want to return here... What I like most about the Old Dairy is that this is a truly local pub (who else would come to this remote area), where people like you and I would get together for a pint in the evening, or two...or three? read more

A 'tardis' looking pub in the sense that from the outside it looks quiet small and moreso like a restaurant but walk around the corner to the large black doors and you'll be in for a surprise... That surprise being the size of the pub with more than one section to it truly making it a modern day tardis. The Old Dairy is a pub located within seconds of Crouch Hill Station and either a bus or a 10minute walk away from Finsbury Park Station with a cool, unpretentious and down to earth feel. The Old Dairy serves not only drinks, but also food with the menus seemingly changing by the day due to each menu having the exact date of the day in which you attend. Although I am yet to try the food, I am very pleased with their drinks and customer service. With one of the only pubs that I've visited that serve more than one type of cider on tap (I think there are 5) I happened to be spoilt for choice. With the excellent customer service of a chatty and knowledgeable barman, I was given a recommendation AND a taster of the cider I was considering drinking without having to purchase a full glass and not enjoying it, that is what I call top notch. **Down-to-Earth trendy pub within close transport links of Finsbury Park and Crouch Hill Station serving an array of drinks and food. The Old Dairy is a large, handsomely decorated pub on the corner of Stroud Green Road and Crouch Hill Road. The inside of the pub is divided into three main rooms, though within the largest there are various booths and cubby holes. As Claire L mentioned in her review, whilst it is a sizable place it still manages to feel cosy. I imagine this is due to the rather odd mix of comfortable chairs and sofas they have. The Old Dairy is something of a Gastro pub and, whilst not quite as good as the Noble, the food is very well done. They also have a wide selection of good beers and lagers including Birra Poretti. God, I've really tried to like this place. It's the closest decent pub to where I now live and, while the pub bit of it I can live with (plenty of choice behind the bar, plenty of tables/comfy chairs, not too surly bar staff), the restaurant bit flatters to deceive. You glance over while drinking in the pub bit and it looks so inviting, with low lighting, big booths and a little window in to the kitchen. But then you go over there and find that the booths are reserved for God and personal friends of the staff, all the tables give you a great view of the ladies loo (I'll leave it up to you as to whether that's a good thing or a bad thing) and you freeze to death as soon as anyone opens the door to go out for/come back from a fag - which is v often. The menu follows suit, in that, it looks great but all the "interesting" dishes are terrible and all they can really nail are s&m/f&c/the burger - all of which are over-priced by between 2 and 4 depending on the dish. When we tried to order dessert, the waitress didn't have her notepad on her so said she would be "right back" which turned out to mean getting her pad, taking an order from another table, chatting to her colleague for several minutes, checking on another table to see if they wanted anything then coming over when she saw we were waving at her to attract her attention. The dessert, when it came, was v good rhubarb crumble on the inside of the ramekin but, unfortunately, garlic cheese on the outside. read more

Nice pub that looks new from front but you walk out and around and realise it's quite an old building with a quite beautiful exterior with detailed designs. Good pub for booze and mostly family and a few young professionals. Right near Crouch Hill station and on cross roads of some good shops and in between Finsbury Park and crouch end so Perfect for a stop off pint or two of walking in either direction. read more

This is my favourite local pub. The staff are friendly and relaxed and the atmosphere is always welcoming and cosy. It's quite a large building so there's usually always a free table. There's also a separate area just for dining which you can reserve tables for. The food is slightly overpriced but the roasts are worth it! They have a well stocked selection of wines, beers and ales. Oh, and they do a good pub quiz on a Monday night too. read more

There are so many different seating areas here, you can visit many times and have a different experience each time. The only downside is that it can get very crowded - testament of the pub's popularity! I've only eaten here once with a friend - the hamburgers are amazing! read more

This place just makes me happy and has a warm feeling to it! The Old Dairy is large yet welcoming. There are different rooms and you can change depending on your mood. I prefer to take a seat on one of their cozy couches in the front main room and watch a match or play a board game or two. I have not tried their pub fare yet but I plan to return shortly. The Old Dairy is a gorgeous, spacious yet cosy pub near Stroud Green. I've been here a few times and it's always accidental but I've always had a great time. The bar is nice and long and well staffed so I've always been served super quick, which is a bonus on a busy night. The pub snacks is also worth a mention; all I need to say is "wasabi peas"! The atmosphere here is always great. It's quite laid-back and down to earth. It's nice to share a pint or two in such gorgeous settings as well. There are big old couches and plenty of tables. It's such a nice place to drink, if this is your local, then you're very lucky indeed! read more

I went to this pub on the day of the RISE Festival that takes place in Finsbury park. I cant really knock the pub its got a very youthful and cool crowd who go there, It also doubles for a nice café for during the day time hours and does do good food for a bistro. Prices are reasonable but on a busy day like that one you'd better off getting a few pints in as it can get quite packed in there. On a Normal day you can take the time to actually look around at the rustic, quite minimal décor. As the name implies you get the retro feel in here its quite traditional you even get pint pots in this establishent, there's bar billiards as well and on the weekends there's more pop culture coming in with the punters, cool music, sometimes funky/soul/jazzy sometimes modern/chart stuff. I personally haven't been to their event nights so I'm yet to see what their like on that instance. All in all two good experiences and nice comfortable seating as well, cant really be asking for much more from a pub on a corner can you? read more

The Old Dairy is a very popular spot in the area. It's a semi-hipster pub which shows all major sporting events on a large screen. The food is standard, the drinks reasonably priced. The staff are lovely, really friendly and helpful. I'd say that if you wanted to make friends here you'd need to be a smoker, however there are lots of sections to this pub so it works really well as a venue for events. read more

Another bar with a 'rustic' touch, but very different to the Royal Oak. This one is definitely going for the more chic, trendy market. Uniforms, bluesy muzak and menus written in chalk on immaculate blackboards. The food on offer seemed suitably trendy too. We visited about 6 pm on a Sunday evening, meeting before heading on to a restaurant. I didn't get a drink myself. It was fairly empty when we came in, but filling rapidly. Where we sat was also freezing cold, with a wind whistling from the nearby door. There were more secluded nooks, and I guess that wouldn't be so much of a problem in better weather. But I was rather glad to move on! Beautiful to look at, might well impress as a place to take a date, but lacking a certain soul in my opinion. read more

I've been to The Old Dairy a few times now since moving to Harringay a couple of years ago and it's a great local Gastro pub. Beautifully converted old dairy with good food and friendly staff. We've eaten every time we've visited and only on one occasion were we disappointed with the service we received (we had taken my parents out on a mid-week night last year and the Dairy wasn't particularly busy, but we spent 4 hours in the restaurant for a 3 course meal to be served - too long!), but since that slight slip-up, I've been with family and friends and the service has picked up and the food still delicious - locally sourced and fresh ingredients is the diary's claim and it certainly tastes good! The only warning I would make is the price of mains seems to have gone up more recently (last visit chicken sunday roast was near on £15 - a bit of a climb up from prices only a little while ago and pretty steep by comparison) and also book on a Saturday night! I went with some friends recently expecting to be able to get a table for 5 in the main restaurant pretty easily, but they were booked for the whole evening. Disappointing, but understandable given this pub's popularity. In the end we opted to stay and eat in the bar area. Too noisy really to dine (it was a Saturday after all!), but a good evening all the same. Would definitely recommend anyone to visit both bar and restaurant. Thumbs up! read more

This Gastro Pub is definitely worth visiting. I recently had my first visit here and I was impressed. This former Dairy has been beautifully restored leaving a very spacious venue. The decor is typical of what you would expect. It has distressed looking tables and old chairs with settees which all adds to the atmosphere. The menu is limited and is slightly pricey. However, despite this the food they cook is very good and well prepared. The only downside was with the bar staff who I did not find to be particularly helpful. This bar is quite has a lot of character, having been converted to a pub from an actual dairy - they even have a plastic cow on top of the roof! Because of the layout, there are a lot of nooks and crannies for hiding away, or to give your night a romantic feel. One side of the bar tends to house the locals, but they seem quite a friendly bunch so you don't feel like an outsider the mintue you walk in. After years waiting for a decent renovation, this last incarnation (two years ago?) has turned the Old Dairy a decent pub. The gastro side of things has also gone up in the world with some decent food. Quality Sunday lunch - also surprisingly baby-friendly. The pub (yes, it is an old Dairy) is a series of smaller rooms off one big one, so always tends to feel a bit more intimate than it actually is. Fine range of booze - but it always strikes me as a bit pricey. It's one of those places where you can buy small plates of wasabi nuts or olives, but you can't get a packet of dry roasted for love nor money. Really looking forward to a nice Bloody Mary and roast dinner but really disappointed by both. I've enjoyed drinking in this pub a few times but for a Sunday Roast it's just no good. A fairly expensive menu is not reflected in the food, it's all distinctly average. A lacklustre roast beef and a minuscule cheeseboard. The Bloody Mary's are also pretty pathetic which is surprising seeing as they advertise them on the board outside. Service was also terrible. Forgotten orders and forgotten table service, left for 30-40 minutes at a time and when we just wanted to order some more wine and deserts. Just there was nobody around. We were billed for items we didn't order and charged 12.5% service...a bit cheeky really. This is not a bad pub but they need to take the food more seriously and get a few more staff on if they want to charge a premium. Go elsewhere for a relaxing Sunday because this place is full of babies and children and really not up to scratch. Sorry Old Dairy, I'll drink here again but never spend money on your food. read more

This place gets kudos for atmosphere, it's expansive and an ideal place for a gathering, it loses points for the very unsympathetic renovation of the building and also for listing a large number of very palatable ales on a chalk board without actually selling many if any of them. Apparently, they are the beers of which they may sell one or two at any time. When I went it was a trifle busy and I felt that the staff could have used a little help, It's not a place I'd rush to if I was nearby, but neither would I walk past if I was walking that way. read more

The Old Dairy is a well known pub in the "north of Finsbury Park"/"south of Crouch End area", and a favourite of many locals. Situated in an expansive area, the establishment hosts not just a large bar with tables, chairs and many comfortable chairs to lose oneself in for an afternoon, but also a reputed restaurant, serving mouthwateringly good food, for a slightly above average price, and even a "bring your own bottle" deal for Monday evenings. As well as this, they frequently organise evenings, such as the pub quiz on Tuesdays, which you can certainly expect stiff competition, as it seems most of the pub takes part, and, while the prizes are generous, the questions are equally difficult! One warning, however; this place does get busy, so if you're considering going for an evening, it's best to get someone along to bag a table as early as possible, as it does fill up in the evenings. read more

There is only one word to describe the Old Dairy: Shambles... This is a perfect example of a pub being great when a quarter full but even the slightest hint of being busy sees the place descend into a cataclysmic farce of a boozer. Its got great ales and a range of lagers, good wines and the food is very good...all very typical London not-trying-too-hard-to-be-cool boozer. All the sort of stuff somebody in the owners hq can sort out but for goodness sake the organization of the place is just downright embarrassing. I've lived locally to the OD for four years and have been a frequent visitor, and apart from a brief upturn last year the staff have always treated the customer as though its an honour to be served. For example, I've stood at the bar for 5 minutes while another couple was served and 5(!!!!!) staff milled around, which included 4 looking at one piece of paper. And forget about complaining, the most you can expect from is a shrug and a look that says "I couldn't care less, there's enough suckers out there that will be come back!" If you've got the time to spare go, have a decent pint in nice surroundings but only on a quiet Tuesday or Wednesday night. If you're reading this OD management your rivals are catching up, stop taking the p'ss out of your clientele. read more

I'm just trying to think back to when I first had the pleasure of drinking in this pub. I was taken there by a friend ignorant at that time of what this little corner of North London had to offer. And here it still is, going from strength to strength and perhaps it's my imagination but expanding too? From the outside the building is impressive. Restored and glowing the carved brick façade wraps around the corner, with big black framed windows giving you glimpses of the wealth inside. Inside it's a place to get lost. There's a room for lounging in, a room for sitting in, t a room for dining in and a room (I'm sure) just for getting lost in. This place is enormous but with it generous and warm and friendly atmosphere. Gosh, I have to pinch myself. Bare brick walls, clusters of pictures and bits and bobs and big glinting chandeliers hanging from the ceilings. It's luxuriously shabby. I like lunch here with British centric and rather meaty (I'm afraid) menu, all dishes save the rib-eye sit comfortably under the £10 threshold. Grab a book or paper mid week, order a pint and something from the menu, settle into a sofa and enjoy spending some time to yourself. We like you dairy queen. read more

Both serve really nice food and delicious wine and me and my friends had a very enjoyable evening here. The Old Dairy was a great restaurant, one of my favorite in North London. But I've been there today for a lunch, it was a nightmare !!! 1 - The Menu was quite exactly the same as the last time I've been there few month ago. 2 - When the food came on the table what a shame !!! There was rottenness on a fig & the ham was in very bad condition. The smell was also terrible. 3 - I have told about this problem to the girl at the bar, she has promised to advert the chief but she didn't really make apologizes and she has not propose to change the dish for a new one. During the afternoon, I've been sick with terrible stomach ache. The Old Dairy is still a lovely place to have a drink but not a good & safest place to eat anymore, the chief is certainly not the same one, I can't recommend anybody this place. read more

My first ever pub experience in London and one of the best up to date. Amazing roast and not too pricey. Extra points for the board games

The building housing this pub used to a dairy in the olden days, hence the name. The decorative details on the outside of the building reflect the history of the place. The space inside is large, but rather dark. It is decorated in good taste, making the space feel very snug and cozy. This is very much a gastro pub, serving modern version of traditional pub fare. I wouldn't go here for the food. It's really nothing special. This place is good venue for watching sports on the big screen TV, while having a pint of beer. You'll find it's always busy at the time of important football matches. At one time I visited the Old Dairy, they had live music as a part of the evening entertainment. The staff can be rude at times, as I had a chance to experience when complaining about a dirty glass my drink came in. They weren't very happy about that, which I found weird. It kind of put me off going there for a while. This pub is a decent choice if you're a local, but there's no reason to make a special trip here from further afield. read more

25 of us visited Old Dairy tonight 3/5/14 and we were served very badly. The service is extremely poor, staff were very rude and we were served very slowly, with staff serving another group of people before us. I will never visit this restaurant again - waste of time and money! read more

Such a fantastic building and location which makes it a real shame that the staff vary between frustratingly disinterested and obviously unhappy to serve you to downright rude. I see am not the first person to note this on here and its reputation locally is not so great.
