And so did its patrons. The barmaid was kind of a jerk... I ordered four shots to begin with and then four beers after she brought the shots and she yelled at me saying she needs the orders up front first. But the place wasn't that busy to be rushing through to serve people so I don't know what her deal was. Apart from the Aspalls, but that tasted awful and couldn't manage much of the pint, so left it for another of our party to drink. I ordered what turned out to be the worst chicken wings I've ever had. Over-cooked and dry, with the hot sauce squirted randomly over the wings and plate. Presentation is not really a priority here at Big Red. My hubbys pulled pork burritos was not great. It had a good kick to it, but it also too much of this over-powering sweet sauce. Not sure what it was trying to hide, the sauce. Maybe that there wasn't much pork in it? The floor staff were just about interested. I had to ask to have the table wiped down before our food arrived, as it had a bits of the last diners food all over it. I'm not sure why I gave it four stars in my first review. Maybe because the food definitely better last time. I'm sure of it was. Oh well.

The interior is newly refurbished and it makes no effort to simulate period charm -- it is unpretentious, clean and modern. The front bar has a large open fireplace and a flat screen TV for the friendly local Arsenal supporters, and a small dining room off to the side. The back bar (go through the gents) has darts and another fireplace. Nine handpumps, three in front and six in back, and a good selection of whiskies as well. The service was notably amiable and efficient. I did not eat here and cannot comment on the food, but I surely would have been content to sit in the bar all afternoon if I could have.

They provide an interesting selection of CAMRA recommended, well-kept beers, a wide choice of wines and ciders, as well as superb menu, which, although slightly more pricey than others, is of excellent quality, and sure to put a smile on your face. The pub itself is split into two, with the front section being more of a saloon bar, and the back more of a comfy space ideal to relax for an evening or a weekend afternoon, with both served by the same staff from one room to another. A firm favourite, and sure to be a hit if you're in the area with friends, meeting up with others, or just fancy a quiet pint.

I arrived late to see Andi Pomato, but still got to catch the last bit of his set. The entire night ended up being amazing because they were having Sunday Kind of Love, a music session for a number of different artists. Moving to food and drink. I can't really speak to the food except the chips with cheese. It wasn't the best, but it definitely held its own. I had an aperol spritz, which was tangy yet sweet. Side point: a very nice size goblet indeed. I also had a really good lager that I think I forgot to take a picture of. My friends each had a Jack and Coke, which they enjoyed. I'll be back next year when I fly over for the next Sunday Kind of Love and maybe next time I'll have an actual meal. As always, happy eating and drinking. MarieMG

However, as I waited for a friend, I ordered a drink and watched the cars go by and people run on the pathway. It was a nice place to relax and the guy at the bar was friendly. I can see this place being great during the evening or summer time as there is an outdoor seating area with picnic benches. Inside, there are enough sitting spaces and a descent size bar. I didn't get the chance to explore more of the pub but I liked it. On the left hand side of where I sat, just to the right of the bar, is what I assumed to be the kitchen separated from the sitting area only by a short brick wall. There was only a brick arch which I liked the look of by the kitchen. I hope to come here again during the evening to test the vibe but I can imagine, being close to a park, it would be great.
