great authentic English pub with great local beers. one downside is that we were very hungry and they didn't have to much on the menu. but if your looking for a great drink or cocktail this is a gem off the beaten path.

This is a straightforward pub with a traditional exterior and fairly plain interior, with some nice tilework just by the entrance. It's tucked away just a few minutes' walk from Marble Arch. Seating is at upholstered benches at the front and tables at the back and around the sides, with plenty of standing room. The main draw is the interesting selection of real ales on tap - up to half a dozen. The choice last night included Adnam's Bitter, Harvey's Sussex Bitter, Cottage Christmas Cracker and Archer's Old Bill Bitter. They serve traditional bar food at lunchtimes Monday to Saturday, but we've not eaten here. Service is efficient - being in an area with lots of offices it can get very busy with the after-work crowd. There's Sky Sports on the TV, but it doesn't seem to be too intrusive. A good respite from shopping in nearby Oxford Street!

Order food from the local restaurants to your table in the pub!

I went here with my family and girlfriend to meet a relative that was visiting from LA. The pub is pleasant enough with an array of locals propping up the bar and having banter with the bar staff. Sometimes pub locals can scour at you a little when you walk in the door but this place seemed to have a nice enough atmosphere. The relative we met was there with friends who lived above the pub and they had great knowledge of the local area and the best places to eat after a couple of drinks. As we got hungrier they described what was on offer and we decided on ordering some grub from a local Iraqi place. They passed around a menu and I thought we were just looking at what we fancied ordering so we could order quickly when we arrived at the restaurant. Then a little while earlier a guy walked in from the restaurant with two huge bags of take-away food and plonked it down on our table. We had ordered food to the bar and I had been none the wiser. I love that this pub allowed us to order food from somewhere else to eat in the bar. It was nice, relaxing and comfortable. As for the food, it was incredible. But you'll have to read my other review on that titled 'Minqala'

Great spot to get a drink and watch a game. They have a couple tv's, the staff is very friendly and drinks very reasonably priced. They don't serve food, but we came for drinks and the game only so it was perfect!

Fun pub, only a few cask ales, but a really warm and inviting atmosphere. The folks behind the bar were great.

An unpretentious back-street local with a very good and original choice of real ales, just a few minutes from the tourist hub of Marble Arch.

Flew in on a Sunday and arrived at my hotel around noon. Remarkable, he scored and I literally walked around the corner and saw the long line to get into the pub first. I was seated immediately, however, and proceeded to enjoy a traditional Sunday Roast. Room was very pleasant (there are so many I got lost returning to my table from a bio brake. Roast was very good ( but no Lawry's) and the sides excellent. Could not decide if my favorite was the roast potatoes (crispy outside soft inside) or the glazed carrots. Yorkshire pudding was good but again, I am to used to the Lawry's and this is a different style. Peas were, well, peas, but very fresh. The sticky toffee cake was excellent and the Guinness fresh, creamy and a proper pour. Good thing because the selection of winners by the glass and half bottles of wine were both a little thin. Overall wine list was good but I was alone and not up for drinking a full bottle by myself. Overall, very enjoyable and to judge by the crowd and difficulty in getting a reservation, one of the more popular in town.

The history alone makes it worth visiting, and the location is perfect if you're exploring the area. It feels very classic London in the best way. We stopped in for a pint and honestly... the whole after-work beer culture over there is something I really need to bring back with me to the States. The beer was great, the atmosphere was lively without feeling overwhelming, and it just felt like one of those places where people naturally gather and stay awhile. Definitely worth stopping into if you're in the area.

Two story space - the ground floor feature the bar and handles walk in lunch; the upstairs is a dining room for those with reservations. Fun fact, as part of the history, the pub used to be the host of bare knuckle fights and had regulars like Charles Dickens. Wildfarmed sourdough - served with whipped salted butter and Guinness butter. Well toasted bread and the butters with salt were well made. Fuller's London Pride marinated steak and ale pie - served with seasonal veggies and red wine gravy, as well as either mash potatoes or triple cooked chips. If there is one dish London does really well, it's their pies. It was beautifully made and loaded with steak. The red wine gravy was decadent and added a perfect amount of moisture to the pie. Triple cooked chips were perfectly crispy but fluffy on the inside. Corn fed chicken breast - served with garlic and sage butter, mash potato, cavolo nero, and crispy onions. Only took a bite of this as it was my partner's dish but the bite of chicken I had was very juicy and well seasoned.
