It was time for a meal of epic proportion as I headed to my local…read more A few years ago it became part of a chain called Flaming Grill pubs, which offer an American-style cuisine in very British surroundings. The Flaming Grill pubs offer a variety of food challengers and I went with their most fearsome; The Trash-Can Challenge. A Giant rack of ribs, double up cheese & bacon burger, beef chilli sundae, chicken skewer, onion rings, corn on the cob, smokey BBQ baked beans, peas and a triple portion of chips all served on a shiny trash can lid! The battle was gruelling and several adjustments of my belt and jeans were required but in the end I emerged victorious with my name forever etched in history of the Flaming Grill Hall of Flame. A landmark occasion to tell the future kids about proudly! The food was delicious and the pub is one of nicest in North London, especially their beer garden in the summer, given it's leafy location. Stay tuned, as for my next visit I will be conquering the 32oz Steak Challenge!

Well... Windsor Castle DID ITS THING in wowing our group of diners. Every dish was on point, perfectly executed. We went in on a Sunday specifically to order Sunday Roasts. They all come either thyme potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, cabbage, leeks, peas and roasted root veggies. Chicken Roast- 4 1/2 stars , juicy and moist. Lamb Roast- 4 1/2 stars - served either red wine au jus , lovely Fish and chips- 5 stars, lightly battered and the best Rib Eye Steak- 4 1/2 stars medium rare , great taste and tasty peppercorn sauce Rosemary & parm fries with truffles- 5 stars, will rock you! Buttered asparagus- 4 stars Dark chocolate torte- 5 stars Lemon tart- 4 1/2 stars This is a super pub not only to eat but the ambiance is sooo cool! I will return!

A friend of mine took me here the other day - he'd been raving about it for a while and I can now see why: they have their own micro-brewery here and it really adds a lot of charme to this place. What made me like this place even more, was the really nice and down-to-earth attitude of our waiter: he took time to walk us through the beers on offer, explaining each and one of them! My first pint was some ginger-flavoured beer, which I have to admit I wasn't quite a fan of. The next one - Hops & Mops - was much better - I particularly liked the name of this one. The food here is also quite nice. We've had the chicken wings, which came with blue-cheese dressing. (Note: 8 wings is plenty for two people!). As they have a changing menu, I'd recommend having a look at the specials During my visit I had grilled haloumi cheese on ptitim (Israeli couscous). They have board-games lying around, so you should come here with a few friends and hang out for a few hours!

On the occasion I was here, they had racing on the TV - yuck! I could not think of anything worse than hearing blaring racing going on in the background. If you sit in a booth you can even see a screen inserted into the booth so you simply cannot get away from the stuff. I absolutely hated the atmosphere. So, If you are a racing fan go enjoy a pint of Irish and get stuck in. If not avoid like the plague!

I think the Highgate Inn is best described by what you can find inside. You get all the necessities…read morefor both casual and committed drinker alike, fruit machines, heavy oak tables and even the unbalanced bar stools but that is just the tip of the proverbial iceberg. This pub seems to have all the little extras that make a great pub. For a start the Juke Box (something which you really don't find in enough pubs) has an amazing array of songs, from the popular to the obscure allowing you to adjust the backing tracks to your night accordingly (although I did get some dirty looks when I put on 5 James bond themes in a row). The sofas (found to the rear of the bar) are incredibly comfortable and very easy to get enveloped by, I would recommend heading to the Highgate inn for these alone, the beer access is a plus. If that isn't for you there are plenty of normal seats and even the option to stand if you would like. In terms of drinks the array on offer is diverse (not ground breaking but certainly not dull). On occasion you may see the odd alcohol dispensing nick knack behind the bar (I once witnessed a bottle holster that caused a desperado bottle to float in mid air). Little props like a frog fountain that spews fog, 4-5 ft tall wooden horses and the occasional seal teddy hanging from the many abstract paintings create a hint of a quirky atmosphere without making that the theme of the pub. Should you feel the need to smoke you will be forced into the street but before you hit the pavement you can take refuge in the outside chairs complete with matching tables, not the best in the winter but better than having to dodge pedestrians. All in all this is a very under attended pub. The staff are helpful and polite, the locals and newcomers seem to get along well and the atmosphere is on par with most of the other pubs in Highgate (better than some).

It's all a bit mismatched and thrown together the way a pub should be. It reminded me of being in a little out of the way place in some village somewhere where the pretentiousness of London had passed by unnoticed. The beer on offer was ok, my London pride was pretty good although nothing special but for me the appeal of this place is the ease of getting a seat compared to the Woodman, the fact inside it's like pubs used to be before they all became identikit carbon copies of one another selling overpriced dismal food and trying too hard to be the next big foodie destination.

The inside decoration is interesting, with the front section being a traditional looking bar and the back being a newer lounge area, with candles and couches. When you add a great choice of ales into this mix, you get a pretty good night. They also boast some occasional live gigs in true Irish style on some Sundays although I have yet to get to one.

The kind of place that has loyal regulars but remains welcoming to all, I'm more than happy that it is my local.
