Because of that, I try to be careful when hiring someone, especially since he always warned me about dishonest plumbers. I recently had PlumbSmart come out to look at my water heater, which is still under full warranty, and I made that clear from the start. Despite that, the plumber recommended a $560 gas valve replacement(covered by warranty btw). He also quoted me $1,312.50 to replace the entire water heater even though it's under warranty and tried to justify it by pointing to a slow leak and minor calcium buildup on the hot water pipe. That didn't sit right with me. If the unit is under warranty, I don't understand why I would be paying over $1,300 for a replacement. It felt like I was being pushed toward unnecessary or overpriced work. I'm sharing this so others can be aware and ask questions and take your time doing research before agreeing to costly repairs. I'd strongly recommend getting a second opinion and confirming what your warranty actually covers before moving forward.
