I was amused that this thrift shop sits right next to a massage parlor. Inside it's fairly cramped and half the shop is quite disorganized. It's like following a deer path through lots of old junk that is way overpriced. Probably the only good thing was that there was very little in the way of clothing and lots in the way of everything else. Unless you're actually in the area, I'd scratch this place off your list. At least there's some photos to help you decide either way.

It is a treat for the eyes, how everything is displayed and I want to buy it all, but I have limited resources. They have a toy section, run by Larry, the Toy Guy, with so many toys that brings back many memories. There are lots of china, old lace, and household bric a brac. Some is wonderful old furniture too. The owner's Roxanne and Gaylord Campbell are very knowledgeable and can help you find what you are looking for. Pam, their assistant, is equally just as charming and helpful. There is plenty of off street parking. I could spend hours here just browsing and finding the right treasures.

I am, myself, an Arab American and he always treats me well. That said, some of the "quirks" of his personality COULD understandably lead people to leave with a bad impression. Let me explain. The first time I went approached his store, the door was closed and locked. But the owner was inside and saw us outside the door. He opened and asked if we (my mom and I) had an appointment. I said no and he told me he only opens for people with appointments. His voice was a gruff and I was initially turned off. I started to leave and he interjected and asked if I wanted to make an appointment. My first instinct was to say no. But at the last moment I relented and said yes instead. A slight grin crept up his face and he said he had an appointment for right then. At that point he opened the door and let us in. I think he likes to play the curmudgeon sometimes. But after that first experience, he was always warm and friendly. He even remembered at later visits that I had been in before. As for the assertion that he was racist, particularly towards people of Asian descent, I just have not seen that from him. Quite the contrary, I was in the shop once with a friend from Thailand who lives here in Albuquerque. The owner greeted us both with a friendly hello and let us in. He even pointed out some antiques from SE Asia for my friend to see. He was friendly and conversational with my friend as they discussed the origin and cultural history of the items. Obviously, I haven't seen the owner's interactions with every customer. And I wouldn't want to support a business owned by someone who discriminates or acts hatefully. So I want to be clear - I could be wrong. I just wonder if perhaps he was doing his "curmudgeon act" and it was misinterpreted. I'll be back to shop until I see something more definitive than a few vague yelp reviews. Accusing someone of racism is no small allegation and I hope the people who've made it here are absolutely certain that that is what they experienced and not a older person who sometimes likes to play the grumpy old man.

We are antique hounds, have lived in ABQ for over a decade and just stumbled on this store last weekend. Please go visit this store immediately. The owner is a treasure and has apparently been selling out of this space for over 20 years. He has a wealth of stories for all of the items he has packed into the several large rooms in his store. Very authentic, with an emphasis on traditional Mexican arts. Loved the entire experience... and will definitely not wait another ten years to come back.

The left half houses the furniture and is brightly lit so the difference is glaringly obvious, The aisles in the surplus area are narrow, with objects sticking out and blocking your path so you have to walk with a lot of care. The center aisles are so dark that you can barely see anything, and considering that most of the items are designed to have low visibility, it makes sense that not having the lights on make for a terrible if not dangerous shopping experience. There appears to be plenty of products but the reality is that the select is poor, its not stuff that most people would want, and it seems to be the derelict dregs leftover fro what other surplus stores across the country rejected. If you are shopping for camping or emergency supplies, this place is likely to let you down.

Great values, low prices, friendly staff, and overall clean and well organized. The location at 5500 San Mateo is easy to find and centrally located right across from Cliff's Amusement Park. There is a great inventory and selection of a wide variety of items from housewares to artwork, tools, seasonal items, and furniture. Items are reasonably priced and prices are clearly marked. The staff is friendly and helpful and can assist you to find whatever you might be looking for. They have a special Saturday sale every weekend where they offer special discounts and they occasionally have surplus furniture items at discount. This thrift store is linked with the coffee shop (The Well Coffee NM) in the same strip mall and they have a 10% discount available for people who patronize both shops. Best of all, the proceeds from sales at both shops support a transformational ministry that works with young adults through love and caring. And if you need to unload extra stuff, this store is a great place to support. Donations are tax-deductible. They have truck pickup service for large donations and they also have a yard service crew you can hire for help around the house. Take a look, you'll want to go back and see more; there's always something new and interesting because their inventory changes daily.
