Living in an area with a rich wine culture and a lot of wineries, I did not expect to be visiting a winery in Montana. It's not exactly what you think of when you think "Montana." Yet, here I was, on a brief visit to Billings. Walking in, the place is beautifully decorated, with a lot of rustic charm to it, and a lot of decorations that remind you that you are in Montana. A large engraved bear decoration in the restrooms stood out. The service there was very attentive, with a single, very friendly hostess manning the place -- it was a quiet day when we went there, with only one other person in the place. The winery works on what I would call a fairly unusual model. They don't charge for tastings -- they'll let you taste every single wine on the menu if you want. I tried quite a few before settling on a glass, and also took home a bottle. All of the wines I tried were very good -- and they have a huge selection of different styles and varietals. Each one stood out uniquely -- which is impressive for a winery with like thirty different types. They also have a kind of "make your own" charcuterie board option, where you can pick from a couple of cheeses and meats. The portions here were nicely generous, too. If they were a little bit closer to home, I would definitely be a regular. As is, I'm looking forward to popping the bottle I purchased. read more

PSA Do not go here if you look under 40! The older blonde waitress will treat you like the scum of the earth. I tried to enjoy some music at this place tonight and last weekend, and she made me super uncomfortable both times. The first time, when i was ordering food at the kiosk with my mom, she pushed me out of the way and said "excuse me" extremely rudely. I personally don't like being touched by servers. Tonight my boyfriend and I were there to see the live music and get a pizza. For context I am 31 and he is 30. we didn't ask to order alcohol, we only wanted a pizza. she demanded to see our IDs. Then she told me that she expected them to be fake, using a condescending voice the entire interaction. Then she loudly pointed out the non alcoholic drink section of the menu. we ordered some sodas because we felt like she would be even meaner to us if we didn't order a drink of some sort. She made me want to leave immediately, but we stuck around to hear a few songs first. read more

When visiting Billings, I didn't expect to find a winery, but if you're looking for one while you're in town, Yellowstone is great. All of their grapes are grown in Washington state but produced in Montana. They have a huge variety. Our server (who I think is also the owner) was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. They don't do tasting flights but she poured us samples of whatever we wanted to try. Glasses are very reasonably priced as well. They also have charcuterie boards and snacks to purchase. read more

This was a very nice stop while in Billings. It is a relaxed atmosphere and the lady that was working was very friendly. You can have tastings of the wine and then buy a glass which was nice. I liked how the menu described each wine and when I wasn't sure what to try, she was super helpful! We had the warm brie and it was fantastic with the wine. It was nice to have enough crackers for the cheese, seems like that does not usually happen at places. My personal favorite was the 98 block! We will be back when we come through again! read more

Terrible experience with the 2020 Roche Jaune white table wine!!! Brought a bottle to share with friends and none of us could drink it. So awful we emptied our glasses into the sink poured what was left in the bottle into the sink also! It was was fizzy and bubbly when poured into a glass and in the bottle had a slight cloudy appearance. Maybe just a bad bottle!? read more

The cutest little winery in all of Billings. The lady who runs the show was so nice and helped us choose the right wine for our group. They offer free tasting as well as tapas, glasses and full bottles. The inside serves as the bar, restaurant and bottling facility. They don't grow their grapes in Montana, they get them shipped from Washington and make the wine inn Billings. Just a word to the wise, they only offer dry wines here. If you do not like dry wines, This isn't the winery for you. Their sweetest blend was the summer blend and it was at till not a sweet wine. I loved it. I will be buying bottles and shipping them back home. Absolutely delicious. read more

My husband and I LOVE this place; incredibly welcoming atmosphere and great wine. We first discovered it on a trip to explore Billings before moving here for hubby's job. We sat at the bar and were able to sample so many of their delicious wines (free tasting!!). We have since narrowed down our favorites: their Cabernet Sauvignon and their Rimrocks Red (a blend). All the staff is lovely, Clint, the owner, will introduce himself and remember you time and time again. The grapes come from Washington, and Clint brings them back himself to make the wine. I love that they carry meats, cheeses, and crackers, plus pizzas, for when you've been having too much fun and find yourself in need of a snack. We frequently bring our children here and they are more than welcome. Sign up for their newsletter as they have great events, music nights, etc. Easily a favorite spot to take out of town visitors, and buy bottles for gifts. They also have a wine club (discounted pricing) and frequent bottle purchasing card to earn a free bottle! read more

I had previously written a glowing review of this business. Unfortunately since the management of the winery was turned over to the son and daughter-in-law things have drastically changed. We drove to Billings from Helena specifically to purchase several cases of wine. We are tasting room members. We brought our elderly little dog along. Upon arriving I sat on the patio with our dog and an employee came out and said we couldn't stay due to Health Department regulations. I left and called the health department and was advised dogs are acceptable as long as they are outside. We decided to park in the shade, do a quick tasting, buy our wine and leave. We were just getting our order together when the daughter in law came over to our table and rudely told us that she is the one who made the rule and people don't want dog hair in their wine, etc. She was so nasty that we just left without purchasing anything. So their loss on about a $500 sale. And the kicker is, we were the only customers! We wouldn't have bothered anyone! I managed businesses for years and I can't imagine treating a customer the way we were treated. It's sad to see Clint's business go downhill like this. If they are not pet friendly they should state so on their website. This is the only winery in 30 years of wine tasting that doesn't allow dogs on the patio. read more

I visited here, from LA, while visiting my mother who lives in Billings. It was a lovely summer night and we had a pleasant place to sit on the patio. A flight of five wines was $5, which then allows you to determine which wine to drink, for a very economical $5. The wines are fantastic. We met Clint, who explained he imports his grapes from the Yakima Valley in WA and produces his wine here in Billings. His Syrah is special, but I really liked the Malbec, which I bought to take back home in my suitcase. There was live entertainment to keep us happy on a Saturday night, and we were encouraged to help ourselves to cheese and salami in the fridge to take the edge off. I was really disappointed tonight. I started going here when I belonged to Newcomer's Club. The service was great at the beginning but went down hill shortly afterwards. Clint, the owner, never acknowledged us until we were leaving at that was after I had to go to the counter go get the bill. When we started going there he talked to us and made us feel at home, now I know he doesn't need to do that anymore. I had to go up also to get another bottle of wine. Really the thing that is interesting is that the wine grapes aren't grown here who are they fooling? Also I felt the wait staff was more concentrated on waiting on the family members of the entertainment we had tonight. Sorry to say we won't be there again in quite a while. We had a delightful tasting experience on a busy Saturday afternoon, including an extended conversation with the owner, Clint Peck. We enjoyed all of the wines, and found them drinkable and reasonably priced. The business model is a little different from most of the wineries we are familiar with in California. Here, the emphasis is not just on the wine, but also on the social experience, enhanced on some nights with entertainment. And you certainly won't find a tasting room in California that stays open until 9 P.M. on weeknights and 11 P.M. on weekends.
