I am sick of Yellow Cab. They have the WORST customer service and the people in dispatch are jerks. The cab drivers are typically scary, and very rarely do you get one who doesn't either smell or talk incessantly on their cell phone while driving. I always have to wait a ridiculous amount of time for one of their cabs to arrive. The dispatcher typically says a cab is five minutes away. This really means that it will be at least 15 minutes, if not more. The dispatchers are always rude when you call to reserve a cab. They act like they are put out of their way to get you a cab. Last night topped it off for me. I had reserved a cab to a bar with Taxi Magic and paid with my iPhone. It worked great the first time. However, it did not work out on the way back. I reserved another cab to take us back to my apartment. The cab arrived (later than promised), but I was expecting that. As we pulled up to my apartment, I paid for the cab with my phone and even got a confirmation number saying I had paid. Unfortunately, the transaction didn't make it through their system (or so they said). The cab driver was wanting payment, so I told him to contact his dispatch. He did. They didn't answer. He tried again. Finally some clown answered the phone. We spoke with him. He insisted that I hadn't paid and that my card hadn't been charged. Finally after about ten minutes of back and forth arguing, we gave up and my cousin paid for the ride. Come to find out today, my card did get charged. Look... We should have walked. I KNOW we should have walked. There was nothing keeping us from trekking from our loft in the Crossroads to the Sprint Center except simple vanity. That's right, from some indefensible reason, I demand that I wear a blazer anywhere I go. Where are we headed? Grandmother's funeral? Farmer's market? Gas station? Great! I've got JUST the sports coat. So Pearl Jam was coming up and we were going and I decided to wear a blazer. But of course. And so I didn't want to walk and risk getting sweaty and uncomfortable. So I decided we'd take a cab. 5:20-- Reserve cab online. Awesome idea. All I have to do is press a few buttons and BAM! cab at my door. Used it once and with roaring success. That time, cab was here in 5 minutes. And that's what they said THIS time. I reserved, I got an email saying 'your cab will arrive at 5:27.' This may seem weird until you realize that we live right around the corner from where the cabs idle (the park just north of Crown Center). 5:27-- Standing outside. Beads of sweat forming. No cab. Cool. 5:32-- I get a text from the cab company. This is normal because you input your number when reserving the cab. 'Jamir is your driver. He will arrive in 10 minutes.' Dang. 22 minutes after first reserving the cab, 15 minutes after they INITIALLY said it would be there. Cool. Wipe your brow. Continue waiting. 5:50-- No cab. What to do? We were supposed to meet our people at 6:00. Looking unlikely. 6:00-- Dulaney says 'B, call the cab! Call them back!' I call back. I get mad at the dispatch lady on the phone. I tell her, 'you know what? Cancel my fucking cab.' She's heard this before. She does so without argument. 6:05-- We call a second cab company. Now we're past the point of just hoofing it. Second cab company says 'when will we be there? Geez. It's Monday. Nothing going on. Give us ten minutes.' 6:15-- Still no second cab. Oh, Yellow Cab shows up. Sits outside our building. Honks. We laugh. He leaves. 6:45-- Second cab company shows up. 30 minutes after we expected him. Driver is super nice, though. Gets us there in 3 minutes. I tip him like he just won the Somalian lottery. He is grateful. 7:00-- Finally drinking with friends. We take too long, miss Band of Horses. Fuck Yellow Cab. Point is, I'll never use Yellow Cab again. I don't care if they're my only ride home from prison and I've just done 20 years (for killing a Yellow Cab employee, of course). FUCK YELLOW CAB. Did I say that yet? Ok, good. Picked up the telephone at MCI and ordered a cab. Was given a number of the cab that was to pick me up. Five minutes later a different cab arrived. He picked up the phone, asked if I was the person to be picked up, and I got into his car trusting this was correct. When I arrived at my destination, I was told that the cab system didn't work and he had to use his own personal Square account on his phone. He didn't tell me how much it cost until he handed his phone to me and I could so no display that told me how much it should cost. My bill then hit my account. For a cab ride from MCI to North Kansas City hospital I was charged $49.45. The name on the bill is HEJIR KHIZIRPOU listed at this address: 1455 MARKET ST KANSAS CITY MISSOURI. This review is NOT about the Yellow Cab as a company, but specifically about one of its driver: Tim or ..Tim the Cabbie. I just moved to KC from NYC, so although known & expected, it still shocked me at first that it was so difficult here to find (1) any taxis roaming around on the streets -- unless you're in some very specific areas, i.e. the Plaza and some selected, few others.... (2) ... and the fact that the Metro (in this case, buses) routes are not as spread out as the city is. Also, I'm having this badly-sprained ankle so mobility has been a real challenge for me in this very-car-friendly city (pour moi: no walking or driving for now :-) This.... until I met this really great taxi driver from the Yellow Cab Company, Tim. I don't know his last name, but anyway, he wants to be called simply as Tim the Cabbie. He's very polite (which is a rare quality, even for NYC cabbies), poised and knows a lot about Kansas City. So for such a KC novice as I am, it is a total treat to have a taxi driver who can also guide me to what's what around the city. He's also very friendly without being overbearingly talkative, very helpful, attentive and... he's just great. It's been so great that I decided to write this review and hope that anyone out there who needs a good, reliable, safe taxi driver will contact him and that he will get more clients!! Grabbed a Yellow Cab outside of the Power and Light district tonight. The driver was on his cell phone while driving. (Distracted and at one point rolled through a red-light). When I asked him to kindly stop using his phone while driving he turned and told me "Don't be rude, I'm on the phone." I don't think I need to add anything to this review. Who the hell wants to leave for the airport at 4am?! Not me! But every year, I go on vacation out of the country and have to leave for the airport when most people are stumbling home after a night out drinking. So, the last time, I planned ahead. I researched car services, thinking it would be easier and cheaper than parking my car all week at the airport. After finding out there's not a car service in this city that will show up at your door that early without charging a ridiculously high-priced early morning surcharge, I figured I could schedule a cab. I live downtown, so cab fare to the airport wouldn't be too bad, I thought. Yellow Cab even had a handy online Ride Charge service on their website where you could schedule your cab in advance! Voila, airport ride taken care of! The morning of my departure, with bags in tow, I'm in my lobby at 3:55am to await my swift ride to the airport. When 4:15 rolls around and still no cab, I called the dispatcher. They tell me it'll be another 10 minutes! By that point, I'm fuming. I need to get to the airport for a flight that is now leaving in just over an hour. Just as I'm about to haul everything to my car and drive myself, the cab pulls up. It smelled like rotten feet and I wanted to puke the whole way. The inside of the cab was disgusting. That's the last time I'll use Yellow Cab. Guess I'm parking at the airport this year. read more

I needed to pick up my car from the shop, so I decided to call a cab. I'd already read the Yelp reviews about Yellow Cab, but out of the 5 or 6 services I called, they were the only ones to answer the phone. After getting a ride scheduled, I received a call from the driver who said he was 20 minutes away. 45 minutes goes by, so I give him a call. No answer. An hour goes by...nothing but voicemail. After two hours, I give Checker Cab another call. 15 minutes later, the Checker Cab driver shows up. As we're leaving, I see another cab coming into the subdivision. Tough luck, Yellow Cab, if that was actually you. I guess you should have been honest about your ETA. I can't imagine running a business like this. Nobody calls a cab because they want a ride "oh...just whenever." No matter how desperate I am for a ride, I will never give my money to this poorly-run business. read more

I'm going to placate myself by looking at ZERO STARS as long as Yelp will let me. I've never left a bad review but Yellow, you're getting it. Kansas City is a car town. It's a drinking town. It's a DUI town. It is NOT a public transportation town. Everyone here with a car is afraid to ride the bus, and they don't run late enough on evenings to even be an option. Go back 10, 15 years in Kansas City and the sight of a cab in Westport (because at that point, Downtown was still a ghost town) was like seeing Bigfoot riding Nessie on rollerskates to Xanadu. I don't even know what that means, so let's just say cabs were non-existent in this city back then. Now, though, they're all over the place. For those of us living in the city, there's really no excuse to risk the fines, jail time, or harm to ourselves or others in lieu of spending $10. Amazingly enough, Yellow seems to have a huge stranglehold on the number of taxis in the city. I find this amazing because it seems otherwise impossible to give these people my money to get me from point A to point B and/or back again. Well, Yellow Taxi, you are directly contributing to drunk driving and poor decision making in this city. Over the past year, we've used Yellow Taxi (and TaxiMagic) a multitude of times because, quite frankly, I like using the online cab booking, and not a lot of other companies have that. It is time for me to take a step back in time and start calling other companies because Yellow is now perma-banned. We have had great drivers, don't get us wrong. One night, we even got my long-lost favorite driver, Webb, from years past. Hooray! We've had great conversations with people from other parts of the world who are here working their asses off dealing with drunk idiots and snob business people. However, we've also broken down on the side of the road and then been charged for the wait time AND full fare for the first AND second cab, we've had drivers race through downtown sidestreets, running red lights, narrow misses with pedestrians and other vehicles, and of course, the real magic of Yellow Cab, the no show. The Yellow Cab No-Show is currently a legend amongst our friends. Are they expecting to meet us for drinks @7pm in Westport? Probably better make that 7:30 and Ben's DD'ing for everybody since he ended up having to drive OR Ben's going to be getting s-faced thrashed because he's concerned about his precious Sue or K's sweet, sweet Gidget parked on a dark city street somewhere overnight instead of nuzzled up behind each other back home safe in the driveway. My favorite variety of the Yellow Cab No-Show is the angry call from the cab driver, and sometimes even MULTIPLE drivers, who tend to show up 15, 20, 60 minutes AFTER the scheduled time. There's nothing greater than calling dispatch to find out where the guy dispatched TWENTY MINUTES AGO who was five minutes away is, told they'll send somebody else out, and then have BOTH DRIVERS angrily calling me AN HOUR LATER TO FIND OUT WHERE I AM. My OTHER favorite version of this wonderful experience is when I get the 3rd or 4th call from the driver emphatically demanding us to come out RIGHT NOW because he is at the right address DESPITE my multiple attempts at explaining to both the dispatcher and the driver that there is a difference between TERRACE AND STREET. Hey bro, I'm looking out my window, I've been posted up here for the past HOUR WAITING ON YOU because you were supposed to be here 30 minutes ago - believe it or not, YOU AREN'T OUT THERE. My guess is you are sitting at XXrd STREET and not TERRACE. The final experience for us, after 3 final-notice experiences, happened this past weekend. We went online and reserved a pickup SIX HOURS AHEAD OF TIME, for a time THIRTY minutes before we had to be 2 miles away because we knew the drill. I called dispatch @7pm to CONFIRM our reservation, and were told yes. I even made sure to CONFIRM the dispatch to XXrd TERRACE - NOT STREET - TERRACE. Thumbs up all around. 7:20 rolls by. K starts getting nervous. I laugh and say "oh dear, this is Yellow, it's FAR too early to get nervous." 7:30. 7:40. Not even a dispatch email/text. 7:48 I call Yellow and get the same dispatcher I confirmed with at 7 and told her to cancel. As others have mentioned, she cancelled with the leathery worn tiredness of a donkey plowing the same fruitless field for the thousandth drought summer in a row. Fast forward 4 hours and I'm running through the streets of Westport, drunk, and preparing to take my anger out on every passing Yellow cab at the thought of leaving my beloved Sue parked away from me for the night. K pulled me into a Checker cab and got me home before the NSA, NTSB, TVA, or whoever showed up to corral me. I love Sue, and I love Gidget, but most importantly they love each other and I refuse to break their bond ever again for Yellow. NEVER. AGAIN. read more

The WORST CAB RIDE EVER!!!! NO STARS. NO STARS. I have traveled the world. Used cabs in NYC, Dallas, SF, Acapulco (those are scary, but they at least know where they're going), Matamoros, London, Paris, etc. I had never been to KC before. Touched down, checked my app for a car service (yes,THAT rider-driver matchmaking service). No joy. So we use the 'courtesy' phone to order a cab to take us to Leawood (Aloft hotel). Cab 928 shows up a few minutes later. So far, so good. Load the luggage and ourselves. Tell the driver. "Aloft Hotel, Leawood. ". He replies, "Huh?". "Leawood, Aloft Hotel. Town Center." "What???" Wife says, "Overland Park", thinking this was more widely-known and would at least get us in the neighborhood.". "Where?" The one word interrogatories slowly revealed that this guy did not speak much English.The next thing revealed that he had no idea how to get around KC. He hands me his GPS and, through sign language, mostly, eventually conveys that he wants us to enter the address of the hotel. Of course, that requires us to dig through the phone for the res email so we can find the address. Does this sounds bad enough for you to get the point? It got a LOT worse. But I will spare you the gory details because it would take all day to recount it. Like highway 29 being completely shut down for an accident that caused his nav system to lose it.Or the blind trips down very dark, deserted roads in the wrong direction because the nav was no longer able to route him. Or his refusal to contact his dispatcher. Or his top speed of 40mph on the freeway. Or me finally ORDERING him to turn around and guiding him myself to the hotel because I CAN READ A MAP. Or the nearly 2 hour trip that should have taken 30-40 minutes tops, even with the road closure. Or the $110 fare. Get the picture? Gory, gory, gory. Bad. Uber bad. Fortunately the aforementioned match making service worked beautifully for the return trip to the airport. read more

Never, ever use this cab company. We called at 3:30pm to reserve a cab for 4:30pm, as we had somewhere to be around 5pm. After nobody showed up at 4:30, we called back, and there was nobody en route and said they could send someone and take about 30 minutes. After trying to be transferred to a manager, we were sent to voicemail, and left a very honest message. We ended up driving ourselves and will leave our car overnight at our destination. In morning, I didnt get any SMS or call..And around 7:15 when I called, the operator told that they are yet to assign a cab and told that there is no guarantee for a pick up. It all depends upon the number of cabs in that area and other crap reason. I was annoyed at her and then she suggested some other cab. Somehow I got the cab after a long delay. A buddy and I were in town for a concert a few weeks back. We hiked it across a few blocks to a bar near the Sprint Center for a few drinks and were looking for a cab to WestPort. The waitress warned us it might be a wait, and she was not kidding! Seven phone calls in a 45 minute period is outrageous! Hell - I don't even know if the yellow cab that showed up even WAS our cab, but after trying to flag down other empty cabs at least they stopped. It was a real big bummer for the evening. I have been threatened to be left in random locations if I don't pay their overcharged service because they think they could take advantage of me when I was drunk. I took a cab ride (drunk) and for a normal trip which would be max $45 it ended up being $110, the guy took my card and swiped it himself, ultimately tipping himself. Just last week I got into a cab with a group of people (I didn't want to) but the guy tried to make us pay extra at the end of the trip because he said we had one to many people in the car. I want to clarify that I'm really giving this place zero stars, but that's not an option. It's absolutely unacceptable to be over 20 minutes late for pickup. I have a strong feeling the person would've been even later had I chosen to wait to see if he would actually arrive. Had to cancel both of my scheduled taxi pickups and drive to the event. Luckily I made it there in time. It's also not acceptable to hang up on a customer before the customer has finished talking when they're trying to confirm a change in reservation. About Yellow Cab/Kansas City, MO I have used YC about six times in the last few months. The vehicles have always been clean and neat. Most of the time the drivers are courteous but, they often show up at the wrong address and are late arriving. On one occasion, the driver called, saying he went to the wrong address and I would need to call YC and have them send a different driver since he would not come to my address. Today, the driver was using a Super Shuttle vehicle and I did not think too much about it until I looked at his tablet and saw that there was a $10 charge....and I had just gotten into the vehicle. As he drove toward my destination, I pointed out to him my ride (to the same place each time) only costs about $5 (plus tip). He then told me the charge was '...ten dollars up to ten miles' and I repeated myself, telling him I had not called Super Shuttle but YC and the fare was always right about $5. He said his service was $10, it was not the 'meter rate'. I told him I wanted the 'meter rate', not the Super Shuttle rate. He then stopped and turned around, going back to the pickup point to start his meter and then told me I would need to get out and call YC and arrange for another cab to come since he was not going to give me the meter rate. I said this was uncool and not the procedure, that in all previous times, the meter rate was used. He then got back out onto the street and took me to my destination. No tip that day. Also, the switchboard seems to have a hearing problem because I am constantly telling them they have my address incorrect. Today it took five minutes just to clear this up. (And each next time I call them, the address they have on file is incorrect again.) So be careful, give yourself extra time in case they are late and especially be careful if the driver shows up in one of those blue vehicles with the Super Shuttle logo. read more

Really service wise probably not so bad. Showed up quick, driver was friendly and didn't screw around about taking us home the most direct way possible. But.. Didn't turn the meter on and didn't say anything til we were halfway to our destination then he wanted to negotiate the rate. I'm no expert but pretty sure that's not right. Tried to call in to the office to "express" my concerns but a less than helpful woman named Janae (sp?) told me nobody would be available to talk to for 2 weeks. After an hour of waiting, the final person I spoke with said "oh, nobody has picked up that ride. Our drivers are independent..." I am new to the Kansas City area and public transportation near my school isn't great. I opted to take a cab into work until I get a more reliable means of transportation for myself. The first day I called and booked a cab over the phone. The dispatcher suggested that next time I book through the Taxi Magic app on my iPhone because he insisted it was more reliable and convenient. That evening, I used the app to book my cab for the following day. When I woke up there was a driver assigned to my pick up time. When no cabs arrived 5 minutes after my scheduled pick up time I called dispatch; they informed me my cab was 10 minutes away. After those 10 minutes, still no cab, so I called back and spoke to a different dispatcher. This one told me that I should probably book over the phone in the future and ordered a new cab for me. Another 20 minutes goes by and still no cabs have arrived. I called dispatched back and they told me they never received a new order. I will never again use Yellow Cab of Kansas City and I DO NOT RECOMMEND it to anyone. I would rather walk 4 miles to the nearest bus stop or the 10 miles directly to work. read more

I was going home from a friends tonight and got stuck behind one of their cabs. No biggie, right? WRONG! The cab had no brake lights whatsoever, which almost resulted in me rear-ending them because they slammed on their brakes (more than once) on snowy/icy roads and I wasn't sure I could stop before I hit them (luckily I did). The driver didn't use turn signals AT ALL, and was all over the road like he/she was drunk! They took up over half of the road when they pulled over upon reaching their destination, and I could barely get around them. I'm not one to complain about things usually, but this was just so ridiculous that I had to say something. Hope someone gets good service from them, but you can bet that if I ever need a cab, I will NOT be using Yellow Cab Co!! read more

The Yellow Cab/Z Trip. or whatever else they might be called...is anything but a SERVICE. One driver who managed to pick us up at Kauffman Performing Arts Center spoke no english, and did NOT know where the Plaza is ... furthermore, he did not know the right turn from left turn when given instructions about heading SOUTH on Main St. (which he was uncertain about too.) Did not arrive at promised time. Was supposed to pick up at 3:15 AM and instead got a call to confirm or cancel if a taxi should arrive. Almost late to airport and flight. Thankful for Uber read more

Worst cab service in KCMO. Most disrespectful phone operator possible. Waiting for over an hour and when I called back to check on service the lady answering the phone hung up on me. I wouldn't call this company at all if possible. The drivers too think its funny when the show up an hour past the giving estimated time. This business is terrible!!! read more

Worst cab experience. Guy wanted cash, but we didn't have it (he had a card machine). He kept turning the wrong way and the trip took longer. Screwed us over big time. read more
