passed thru carlsbad and stumbled across here and glad that we did! fast service, homely atmosphere, and great food.

While visiting Carlsbad Caverns we stayed in town for a couple days and had dinner here our first night. The waitress who served us was wonderful, friendly, attentive, and incredibly kind to our dog. Prices were very reasonable and the portions were generous. The only negative part of the evening had nothing to do with the restaurant. A man seated next to us spent much of dinner being rude and entitled, repeatedly questioning how the salmon was prepared, criticizing the wine list, and generally acting unpleasant toward the staff. The blonde waitress with glasses handled the situation with impressive patience and professionalism. Honestly, it took restraint not to say something myself. She did a fantastic job dealing with a very difficult customer and deserves recognition for it. read more

Arrived in that quiet lull between lunch and dinner and found the place mostly empty. Once the hostess finally reappeared and got the couple ahead of us seated -- and eventually us -- things improved. Our server stepped in quickly with menus, drinks, and a level of attentiveness that helped smooth over the slow start. The Fish & Fries was fine, nothing remarkable. The chicken tenders came out hot and were clearly real chicken, but they carried a noticeable fish flavor from the shared fryer. The Tuscan Spicy Chicken pasta was the opposite experience: a huge portion, easily enough for two, and genuinely flavorful. The Steak Soft Tacos didn't land as well -- the steak was a bit tough and didn't bring much flavor. Dessert didn't redeem things. The Chocolate Lava Cake á la mode had good vanilla ice cream, but the cake itself was dry, the "lava" was basically Hershey's syrup, and the whole thing lacked any standout chocolate flavor. A mixed visit overall -- some bright spots, some misses -- landing solidly in the middle. read more

Came here because locals swore this place was "so good." Absolutely not. The outside gives you hope, but don't be fooled. They marched us straight to some random back room that looked filthy and forgotten. Dirty walls, dead flies sitting on the window sills, dusty air vents directly over our table, worn-out floors and furniture... the whole place felt grimy. On the way to our table we were also walked past a nasty smelling dishwashing area, which really set the tone for the experience. Now the food. The kids got chicken fettuccine Alfredo, and somehow it managed to be both lava hot and completely flavorless at the same time. The chicken tasted like it lost a fight with the microwave. The meatloaf? I genuinely have no idea what they served me. It looked like cafeteria mystery meat drowned in tomato puree. Honestly offensive. I ordered the green chile cheeseburger with fries thinking maybe they'd at least get that right. Nope. The green chile had zero spice, zero flavor, zero reason to exist. The burger itself was forgettable at best. And the best part? The bill was nearly $100. For dirty vents, dead flies, bland food, and mystery meat. Would I come back? Not even if someone else was paying. read more

Yellow Brix was great! The outdoor seating is lovely, they do a nice job with the patio. Even with the location by a main road, it feels like someone's back yard, really pleasant. And the live music was a nice touch for a Friday night. Service was also excellent, so friendly and on top of their game. I had the shrimp pomodoro dish and really enjoyed it. The shrimp were seasoned so well, and the pasta was al dente. There was also a nice, mild kick from the black pepper, and the fresh parmesan melted into the dish to create cheesy goodness. Maybe a touch heavy on the oil but it was still an excellent meal overall. read more

Ok this is the spot in Carlsbad so obviously we had to see what the hype was about. Super cute indoor outdoor situation, live music, chill aesthetic, great energy. Staff was wonderful and on it the whole time. But the food... whew. I ordered the vegan tacos and props for having separate vegan, vegetarian, and gluten free menus, love that, just make sure you ask for them. The guac needed some life, like lime, salt, anything to wake it up. Chips were decent but a little oily. Tacos were fine but bland, zero spice, and I'm side eyeing how those veggies were cooked because something felt off. Unsweetened iced tea was solid and refills stayed coming so no complaints there. My husband got the Tuscan chicken pasta and fully tapped out, said it was rubbery and tasted like old frozen food. Didn't finish it, which says a lot. They do have Tapatio though so small win. Honestly feels like a place you go for drinks, wine, and live music, not the food. read more

We went for early dinner. Had martinis, very good. We had ceaser salad, perfection. Ribeye steak and truffle fries. Very good! This is a must try read more

my husband and came in through town during our roadtrip to ft. worth during the holidays and we were pleasantly surprised!! we were just looking for a quick snack (and a drink for me hehe) and a place to stretch our legs and we were not disappointed! Saleen and Luca took care of us, and from start to finish -- everything was excellent! The espresso martini was one of the best I've ever had and the parm fries were so tasty -- we devoured them almost instantly! It's a shame we live so far from here because I'd love to make it a regular date night spot! Stopped in to try after visiting the Carlsbad caverns. I ordered spinach artichoke dip which was really good, Caesar salad and the green chili fettuccine. The ambience is cute and cozy. The staff was nice but service lacked a bit which the waiter forgot to put in my entree. My Caesar salad came out with no dressing and we were checked on after the fact there was a complaint. The staff sincerely apologized and quickly took care of the problem and comped my entree and a desert because of this I will return. This establishment did the right thing to keep a customer. (Took the rest to-go with no photos) read more

Yellow Brix was so good we went two days in a row during our Carlsbad trip! On day 1 we were kind of in a rush to eat in between viewing Carlsbad Caverns, and trying to return for the bat flight show. We were seated immediately, served, and finished eating all within 30 minutes! The food was honestly impeccable. The flavors all worked perfectly! I loved the touch of sweetness from the cranberries in the Warm Brussels Salad, and the use of parmesan on the salad, truffle fries, and meatloaf. The baked penne is like fancier and yummier mac&cheese! I highly recommend both dishes, as well as their delicious cheesecake and creme brûlée! We went back for breakfast the next day (Saturday Breakfast until 12 pm) and were equally blown away with the amazing flavor of the food! Not a great picture, but the breakfast chicken fried steak was probably the best I've ever had. The sides complemented it perfectly. I tried a pancake for something sweet, and it was very yummy too! Also, I swear this place hires the friendliest staff with the best customer service. Every staff member I encountered was polite and friendly, smiling, wishing us a good day, etc. I was so impressed with the service! Lastly, the entire restaurant has very nice, beautiful, and clean surroundings. There is a lovely outdoor area as well. I think the restaurant is set in a house... it has charming fixtures, windows, and doors. The restroom alone is really impressive! 10/10 recommend to anyone in Carlsbad for any meal of the day! read more

Cute little spot in Carlsbad, they have a solid menu with a good variety of food and drinks. I wish we could have gotten outdoor seating on the patio but they were quite busy and so sitting in the back room was totally fine other than the AC was cranked pretty high. We had a larger group which this was a great fit for. I got the bacon banana crepe and it was very good. Portions were huge and definitely hit the spot. read more

*** great indoor/outdoor dining with a full bar in Carlsbad, NM *** We missed out on brunch by minutes. I'm totally blaming it on my sleepy head 6th grader, but she needed extra sleep with all the school state testing lately. + Green Chili Fettuccini with added seared tuna = $22 (I highly recommend this... my daughters wouldn't stop eating off my plate!) + Gourmet mac n cheese (kid's menu) = $8.50 + Brix quesadilla (kid's menu) = $8.50 + Bloody Mary (they were out of Tito's so I went with Ketel One... it was a bit too peppery for my liking) = $9.00 + Dr. Pepper = $3.75 + Lemonade = $3.75 + Tiramisu = $10 A 3.5% fee is added to credit card charges. Ample side street parking. Our waitress with the Piglet socks, Jimmina, was very attentive and friendly. Their women's restroom was so cool. Very clean unlike the dining room which could use a deep cleaning - especially those floor vents! RATING BREAKDOWN Food/Drinks: 4.5 | Service: 5 | Ambiance: 4.5 | Price: 4 read more

The ambience is very fancy. We arrived around 7 pm on a Sunday, and since the weather was nice, we sat on the patio. We were a group of six. I ordered the veggie primavera pasta with red sauce. The vegetables were good, but there was too much tomato, so I could not finish the whole dish. The artichoke dip for the table was not very good. The service was friendly and attentive. The tiramisu was too sweet for my taste, but the portion size was generous. read more

I came here with a friend while visiting the Carlesbad cavern. After waiting 40 minutes and seeing 3 tables come in after us and both have drinks and food already, we flagged down someone. They said no one was assigned to us and that's why we didn't even have water yet. But a waitress said she would take our table. She was cool and polite but don't know why the mistake happened. Surely it was easy to notice in a not large restaurant this table just sitting for a long time. The food was good. I highly recommend the warm Brussels sprouts salad. I ordered a drink right when taking orders that didn't come until halfway through dinner. It was a mojito and had very little mint. It wasn't good and again came out way late. My friend had meatloaf and it had marinara sauce on top instead of what you'd expect with meatloaf. I had a salad which was good. The ambiance was nice with dim lighting and Christmas lights. Overall though the lack of service was enough to make me not recommend this restaurant. Hopefully they can figure out what their inconsistencies are. read more

The handicap entrance/ramp was so degrading. It's around the back of the building, where clearly the staff take breaks, by the dumpsters, and also where they stack their dirty laundry in bags, enter into the building next to the kitchen and bathrooms. We had already approached the staff at the front entrance to ask if they even had a ramp, and so they knew we were coming, when we got into the building, we weren't acknowledged and made to stand awkwardly blocking the entrance until They decided to show us our table. My daughter shouldn't feel "less than" to be able to dine in a restaurant. Food was meh. Server was fine. Floor was absolutely disgusting and overall seemed like a dirty, unkept establishment. Won't be back. read more

Food is just ok it's how filthy the place is that I couldn't get past. Service very fair. They brought the main course with the soup because they can't key it in separately. And then the dirty soup bowls were never cleared. We asked for more water and instead of bringing a pitcher to the table she brought our dirty cups back to the kitchen to be refilled. Where I'm from that's a health code violation. The patio is filthy strewn with detritus from long past diners. It looks like it hasn't been cleaned all summer. This is a skip for me. read more

We had a recommendation to eat here. I saw a review from someone that said they were ignored, and eventually left, but we went anyway. The same thing happened to us. An indifferent host sat us in a corner. We saw wait staff pass by, a couple of them glanced at us. Finally after 8 minutes as we stood up to go, someone came over, but we figured who knew how long getting food would take, so we left and went to the Cascades. They had great food there. read more

Ambiance was good, food was just ok. Waited a while for service too, the patio was nice though

I do not like writing this review. The restaurant was recommended to us by a local. The exterior was inviting, nicely decorated. They were packed and only standing room near the host station but we only waited about 10 minutes to be sat. The servers were rushing past. We were patient but after 15 minutes without acknowledgement, I wanted to leave. My friend stopped a server who apologized profusely and took our orders. I had the salmon with side salad and pozole. The pozole was amazing! The salmon wasn't warm and not great. My friend had the 6oz medallions. They ran out of mashed potatoes so he had the chicken tortilla soup and fries for his sides. The sides were large portions. The proteins seemed small in comparison. The medallions were room temperature and very fatty. We had to ask for silverware and napkins. The server really tried to make things right by getting us a discount and free desert but it was too late. read more

Had a nice meal of shrimp and pasta and a Mediterranean salad and artichoke dip, large portions! We had a very sweet waitress, blonde gal with glasses, that brought water for our pup without us even asking. There was a very rude person at the table next to us who was being extremely condescending to the waitress ("who cooks the salmon? The chef? Go ask him how he cooks it.") and our waitress handled it very well and with kindness and grace. Kudos to her! It's not easy working with the public. read more

Such a cool, charming restaurant in Carlsbad, a small town in NM--perfect for a lunch date, or meal after touring the caverns. Great unexpected find. read more

I've long loved lunch and dinner at this charming spot so thought I'd try breakfast. Big mistake! Biscuits "smothered in gravy" were crispy, uncut biscuits with a thin coating of thin gravy that might have been applied with a butter knife! In fact the little bit of gravy was not even noticeable when I decided to open the biscuits and spread jam on them to make them edible! Wife had a crepe with crispy edges - should not be - but it was absolutely stuffed with berries - which was great. Lovely spot with lovely people, but really needs an experienced breakfast cook. I'll keep returning for the lunch menu though! read more

Great birthday breakfast for my dad. Quaint patio. Service was great. Food was delicious and plates had ample serving size. My dad asked if they had pickled jalapeños. I was so glad to have a chance to experience this local hotspot! I went and had lunch, the ladies seated next to me had two spectacular plates delivered to them and I asked for their recommendations. Both were having the warm Brussel salad and one lady said, I just got mine and haven't had any yet would you like to try it? I unwrapped my utensil and got a Brussel and was immediately intrigued with the crispy texture, warm crunchy, and inviting sauce. I had to order one for myself. The waitstaff in the area suggested adding beef tips so I did and that added an extra level of YUM!!! The portion size was large and the chef did a remarkable job of cooking and preparing it just right. I noticed the lady who came in after me and also seated nearby ordered the Brussel salad. This sounds like a very popular choice and I understand why. The service and attentive staff really elevate the experience. It's so nice to see so many indoor and outdoor places to sit. I'd love to come back when they have live entertainment on the stage outside. I highly recommend this establishment and look forward to when I'm in town again for another visit here. read more
