Stopped in here after touring the Carlsbad Caverns. Neat little place. Bartender was friendly and gave us some tips for traveling up towards White Sands National Park. I had a blast at this brewery. This brewery stays opened the latest in Carlsbad. Friendly patrons. Wonderful bartenders. Bartender Louise let me ring the GONG for final call. ( Never "gonged" before!) They also serve wine. There are cans of soda and other libations in their glass fridge. No food. Lots of parking. 2 large seating air-conditioned seating areas. I HATE BEER! But.... We were visiting the national parks nearby and were craving a refreshing drink after our hike & Milton's brewing did the job. They had a cider available as well as a sour. I sampled the sour and it was pretty tasty (for someone who hates beer). On top of that, the woman who poured my glass was very friendly, hospitable, and I felt the most welcomed to Carlsbad, so I truly appreciate that. Overall, I'd recommend this brewery in downtown Carlsbad. Ps. This was a nice local brewery downtown in a great location to local attractions, really nice atmosphere, very friendly server, worst beer we've EVER had. We tried 4 in a flight and we couldn't drink them. I'm fairly certain something was actually wrong with the kolsch, like it had gone bad it was so off. Disappointing that the 62/180 IPA was not available even though it is listed on the website as an "everyday brew". Now the "Red Stapler" was a fantastic brew and proved a deliciously capable sub! We like to come here for trivia. The service is great. The decor and ambiance is great. The beer that is brewed at Milton's makes me sad. The only beer I like has been the knights ale (scotch). Milton's is great - downtown (sorta, by Carlsbad's standards), good beers (I had the Kolsch and the Red Ale, both excellent), friendlies behind the bar, lotsa nice people drinking, cool old space with the tin ceiling you expect. Verdict: Milton's has decent beer game for being the only game in town. Albuquerque has become the land of microbrews and while Milton's might struggle against that amount of competition, they still make a good a beer. It would be all too easy to be complacent so I was glad to see that they cared. I was also glad to see some guest beers from the ABQ area and that Milton's was somewhat integrated into the larger NM brew culture. I went here after receiving a tip from the hotel manager on duty. Milton's was only about a mile from the hotel and making the walk meant I could explore a bit (and drink a bit more too). The building is unassuming and well off the main drag. Being the only microbrewery in a tiny town like Carlsbad, everyone local still knows they exist. Those of us from out of town would miss it and that's where Yelp (or a local tip) comes in handy. Like many smaller breweries, Milton's hosts good trucks to complete the food and drink combo. The pizzas coming in looked good but I had other plans for the night. read more

We were excited to find a craft brewery half a block from the hotel. Went in and zero face masks during Covid despite the mandate and HIGH numbers, not inside, outside or the staff. A gong on the wall said "Wuhan, China"... the to-go cans for their own beers were squished and the friendly enough bartender said it was due to the nitrogen. I worked in a craft brewery and that's not a thing if you're canning and pouring correctly. Their own brews were mediocre at best and limited in selection. Their stock of other beers were all from Santa Fe so nothing new to us. Being glared at for wearing a mask was really something out of a dystopian novel. Milton's is a great spot. So happy Carlsbad has a local brewery, and one with a great atmosphere and friendly feel to boot. I'm from Carlsbad originally but have been in Abq for the past 10 years. I frequent many of the breweries in Abq, and to have an option when I come home to visit is so awesome. Beer is ok, and they have other NM beers on tap also. The BBQ truck in the back is fantastic. Bartendresses were nice and other patrons were fun to talk to. Will definitely come back next time in town, and probably every time after that. read more
