The interior was an interesting combination that gave mostly a country feel, even if the music selection was anything but country. Servers were kind and attentive although seemingly more business (at least our server). The food was fine but wouldn't necessarily say it was outstanding. I would though go back. read more

Nice clean place with fast and efficient service. The Bar-B-Q meats were cooked properly and tasted great. The French fries were homemade and extra crispy like we like. A sign of the times when half the menu is listed as market price. The Memphis style Bar-B-Q sauce had a bit too much hot sauce/cayenne pepper. read more

First time at Danny's and had the rib and brisket platter. The ribs were cooked perfectly and pulled nicely from the bone. The rub formed a nice crust that complimented the pork well. The brisket was really dry and I mostly got lean pieces. The meat pulled apart nicely but was dry with little smoke flavor. I wouldn't get the brisket again. The sides were ok. The potato salad had good flavor but the red bell pepper just wasn't a great pairing. The coleslaw was creamy but needed a little more salt and vinegar. The French fries were not good at all. They were thick cut but the oil may have been old that they were fried in. They weren't really seasoned either. In the end Danny's was just ok. I've eaten bbq all over the country and know what is good and what isn't. Danny's ribs are worth eating again. I tried some ham which was good but lacked smoke flavor like the brisket. The sauces were also ok but nothing special. The sweet sauce tasted like Sweet Baby Rays and the vinegar based sauce had a little kick but nothing special or memorable. My suggestions would include taking the bell pepper out of the potato salad, make thinner, fresh cut fries that a seasoned, and try to get some more smoke flavor into the meats. I've eaten as Joe's in Kansas City, Scott's in South Carolina, and Mad Jacks in New Mexico which nailed it with everything on the menu. read more

Lived in Carlsbad for Two years now and just barely found this place! Took my wife here for dinner and we loved it. The service was fast, the people were nice, and the food was great. I got a large sweet tea along with the 3 meat dinner, my wife got a chop brisket sandwich and the French fries. Flavors were amazing and the portions for the price were even better. We loved this place. The staff were all very friendly, and the food was so good. We each had the smothered bean burrito, which is huge and very filling, with lots of green chiles. I had a side of sweet potato fries, which were light and crispy, not greasy. The coleslaw was fresh and creamy and delicious. The interior is clean and spacious, and had a pleasant music soundtrack of country oldies. We will definitely be back next time we're in town. read more

I stopped in after spending the day at Carlsbad Caverns. My server was very nice and my food arrived shortly after ordered. I had the mix plate with pulled pork and ribs. My sides were potato salad & beans, along with a big piece of toasted bread, a pickle, onion, & cherry pepper. The ribs were good, but not hot. The pulled pork was very dry. I was surprised to get pinto beans instead of baked beans; however, they were very good. The potato salad was just okay. I'm southern, so I tend to be picky about my potato salad. The bread was hot and delicious---the best thing on my plate. read more

5 stars. Food was absolutely amazing. Food made this solely 5 stars. Service was good, but the food was unmatched. I got a brisket sandwich with fries and it was absolutely delicious. The restaurant itself is very nice and laid back with nice older decorations. Would %100 percent recommend visiting first if you come to Carlsbad. +was not that expensive. read more

Great BBQ and service, the place is clean and prices are a little above average but so is the food try it.

I've been struggling with some health issues and there are only certain foods I can eat. I absolutely can not handle anything too dry... Well the turkey sandwich is absolutely amazing! Juicy and flavorful! I've ordered from them twice this week already! And the staff are very kind and professional. No complaints when I request extra barbecue sauce, no eye rolling over pickles on the side. Thank you guys! read more

Great bbq. When we walked in, it was almost empty, with only 2 tables with customers. Very glad we stayed. The staff were nice and there was a nice homey feeling. We had brisket and ribs. The meat melts in your mouth, and the sweet sauce hit the spot. I wanted to get some food to take home when leaving Carlsbad, but they were closed. : ( read more

Came here on a Wednesday evening for dinner on our roadtrip to Carlsbad Caverns. Got the pork ribs with cole slaw and fried okra. Pork ribs had sweet bbq sauce and a nice smoky flavor to it but didn't have as much meat or "fall off the bone" texture as compared to some other bbq places I have been to. Cole slaw was really good - sweet and tasty! Fried okra was ok - could have had more seasoning. Waffle cut sweet potato fries were delicious - our server Kayleigh suggested trying it dipped in maple syrup, which made it taste like Eggos waffles! Service was quick and Kayleigh was very attentive! Food was probably closer to three stars but the awesome service made it a four! Price wasn't too expensive and there was a good amount of food that made sure we were full after eating here. read more

After a gorgeous day of hiking and opening an appetite Danny's was just right. We shared the 3-meat combo: ribs, brisket, and pulled pork. The ribs were excellent, brisket and pulled pork a bit dry. Bob loved the beans and potatoes salad was not that great and is because we are not miracle whip people. We both loved the salad, fresh and crisp. Did I mentioned we loved the ribs? The servers were attentive, maybe a little overly so. Stop by if you are in the Carlsbad area. We drove from south of White city about 53 miles for this good meal. read more

Wow, this place is amazing! To start off, the fellow taking our order was so friendly and cheery; he asked us what car we were in, so that our food would be brought out to us while we waited outside due to COVID-19. He had a great attitude and was very helpful while we were deciding what to order. I got the Mix Dinner ($15.50), which comes with two choices of meat and two sides with a dinner roll. For my meats, I chose pork ribs and brisket. Both super tender, smokey, flavorful, juicy, and just fell off the bone the moment it touched my lips --yum! For my sides, I opted for fried okra and coleslaw. I'm a sucker for both of these, and they were top notch. The fried okra were bite-size and super crunchy while the coleslaw was light and refreshing. Everything was so delicious, including the dinner roll! Also, I loved the addition of the pickle and onion on the side, which is available upon request but the kind cashier asked us anyways. I was so satisfied eating this meal in the car as soon as we received it. Even when I was full, I couldn't help but continue eating. I would come back to New Mexico just for this bomb BBQ again! This was the perfect stop between visiting Carlsbad Caverns and White Sands National Park. Make a stop here, it's definitely worth it! read more

Yes! Yes! And Yes! Who doesn't love BBQ? Seriously? Who? Vegans? Yeah, sorry but they don't count! They're clearly disturbed! In fact, Randy Newman should rewrite "Short People," but make it all about Vegans! Nevertheless, I digress! This place rocks! No need to take my word for it, just ask the other 200 plus people who are equally in love with this carnivorous haven! We were in town to check out the Caverns (a must see, BTW), and what does any dedicated Yelper do when in a new town? They whip out their trusty phone, of course, and Yelp their way to the best eatery available. That's exactly what we did, and we were NOT disappointed! Do yourself a solid and get the three-meat plate. Pulled pork, brisket, and ribs! Well worth the 15 bucks! My only issue? No beer! A beer, or glass of wine, would have really hit the spot! If you're a local? You already know! If you're a Newb? Get in the know and get yourself down here! You'll be glad you did! Cheers! read more

Yelp led me to Danny's Place. - Flip plate: a local favorite. A floured tortilla buttered and fried on the grill filled with a hamburger patty, two cheese slices, green chile, onion and salsa ($10.75): Different. Can't say it was my favorite. I wouldn't order this again, but mostly because the two meat plate was the star of the show. - Two meat plate with brisket & ribs ($14.50): The brisket was nice and tender and had good burnt ends and smoke rings. Ribs fell off the bone. Make sure to ask for your pepper, pickle and onion. All pickled and all good. They also had a sweet and a vinegar based bbq sauce. I couldn't decide which one I liked better! Loved the Texas toast too. Both entrees came with two sides: - Fried okra: Our server recommended this one. The key to okra is it shouldn't be slimy or it's over cooked. Was this slimy? No siree! So good. I dipped it in the ranch dressing from the side salad. - Potato salad: Very good. Even better the next day! - Mac n cheese: Not sure why this one had an extra 75 cent extra charge, as this was meh. - Side salad: It was a plain ol' salad, but good to balance out the rest of the heavy meal. This had an extra 75 cent charge too. Huge portions. Friendly service. Cute ambiance to boot. read more

If you are in Carlsbad NM this is a great place to go for lunch. We had a Turkey sandwich that was grilled. The Turkey was thick cut and it tasted great. I had the BBQ sauce and my wife went with lettuce, tomato and the fixings. I added fresh green chilis. On a quick family road trip to see the Caverns, we stopped here for dinner because my husband was craving bbq. This place exceeded any expectations we had when we walked in and were greeted strangely by a hostess that acted like we uninvitedly wandered into her livingroom. While the outside of this building was sparse with few signs and made us do the "are they open or shut down?" dance, the inside feels like a quaint old-school marriage between a restaurant and diner. It was a clean environment with a country feel and our waitress was the sweetest human ever. Like seriously. She was fantastic. The bbq is good! The ribs fall off the bone, the brisket and turkey is tender. The portions are huge and even the sides were yummy. Great okra and coleslaw, and the texas toast they serve had the perfect sweetness and texture. I'm a little concerned about the bbq sauce... They served a "vinegar" and "sweet" bbq. I ended up using the sweet bbq because it was good enough. Like, it was all that was available so I ate it, but I wouldn't ever pick it out of a lineup of bbq sauces. But the vinegar bbq looked like...carmel that's gone bad? I don't even know how you make a good bbq sauce turn that color. And typically vinegar bbq sauces are runny because vinegar is... anyhow, If they upped their bbq sauce game and the hostess was more concerned with anything but town gossip (because omg we heard it ALL while trying to eat, she was the loudest person in the building and it was hopping...small towns, amiright?), they have a really really good thing going here. Definitely worth a stop on your way through town! read more

I am writing this from our RV that is still parked outside the restaurant! We've been chasing BBQ joints pre and post Covid and this was an unexpected lucky find. What's good? EVERYTHING we had (even as take out, and they have a drive through window). Ribs - almost fall off the bone and moist with awesome bbq sauce Brisket - moist and smokey, fatty parts were amazing. Brisket BBQ Sandwich - It has Brisket and BBQ sauce between soft sweet bread, DUH this was good. Cole Slaw - cole slaw can really only get so good in books and this is one of the best ones, not too sweet or gooey, more vinegary than most and really balances the meats well. Fries - Thick cut, good Sweet potato fries - neither of us actually like sweet potato fries in general but they nailed it with the crinkle cut and maple syrup for dipping. Gobbled up completely. Total damage $30 pre-tip - coming from SF this is unheard of and magical. We're not BBQ experts but we have it nearly everywhere we go in the US and this place is worth a stop in if you're in Carlsbad. read more

Came here with my family after recommendations from Yelp and glad we went! We were coming from our first night at Carlsbad Caverns and there isn't a lot of well-rated restaurants nearby. But this one caught my eye. Definitely has a "homey" feel to it when you walk in. They serve BBQ and Mexican, but since it seemed more known for BBQ, I stuck with that. My mom and I split the Three Meat Dinner and it was a lot of food especially with the sides. The meat was very tender and juicy. Overall, very good BBQ place. Thanks Yelpers for the find! read more

What a find!! We stopped in for some BBQ after visiting Carlsbad Caverns. We ordered garden salads to start, with the in-house ranch dressing: fresh, tasty and good portion. My husband ordered the 3 meats plate: ribs, brisket and andouille sausage, with the sweet potato fries. He says, "Must try!" My Mom and sissy had the ribs...they cleaned their plates! I had the brisket...a delightful treat, indeed! Also enjoyed the wonderful service from the entire staff, especially our server, Jennifer. She made sure we had our nice large drinks topped off and brought me extra cherry peppers :) The caramel apple cheesecake was the perfect end to this delicious down home meal. Stayed in the TownePlace Suites across the road from Danny's Place, so figured I would give it a try. I had the two meat plate with 2 sides and decided to add an additional side. The good, ribs were tender, the sweet sauce was good, beans had good flavor, potato salad was really good mustard base, fried okra was good and toast was sweet like Hawaiian bread. The hostess was funny while seating me and all of the waitresses were really friendly. The bad, the sliced brisket was a little dry and it took along time for me to get my meal. I did notice they had a lot of to-go orders, so i am sure this slowed down the kitchen some. I would recommend Dannys Place if you are looking for an above average BBQ dinner. read more

We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon because we had heard so many good things about this place. I ordered the full rib dinner with one side of fried okra and one side of coleslaw. My boyfriend ordered the brisket sandwich with sweet potato fries. The flavor of the ribs was very good! The meat could've been more tender, but the thick crust that formed on the outside was delicious. I found that the sauce on the ribs was more than enough flavor and I did not need to use the additional barbecue sauce on the table. The fried okra was to die for and the coleslaw was absolutely delicious! My boyfriends brisket sandwich had good flavor but was a bit dry, so he ended up putting more barbecue sauce on it. The sweet potato fries were also incredibly delicious and we enjoyed that each plate came with a pickle and a side of bread! After a decent hike through Carlsbad we were starving! Lucky for us we were able to find this BBQ joint about 20 minutes from the caverns in the main city. We were seated immediately and greeted with Sweet tea! It was our first time in NM so I am glad they are still part of the south and sweet tea isn't frowned upon. I ordered the rib dinner with mashed potatoes and potato salad, and my wife got the brisket dinner with fried okra and a side salad. The dinner came with 5 ribs and a hearty amount of brisket mixed with lean and some fatty. They have 2 sauces one more sweet one more sour. The dinners also came with toast/garlic bread? This was by far my favorite part of the meal. The BBQ itself was solid, nothing I would rave about, but definitely hit the spot after some mild hiking. read more
