Indoor events are back! I've done a bunch of the paint nites and had booked a class for a plant night with a gnome right before the pandemic that was cancelled, I waited almost two years but was able to use my voucher that didn't quite cover the full cost, but better than nothing. It was a nice event, lots of options for containers and the instructor had a good energy. I was happy with my succulent arrangement (sad there wasn't a gnome, but I liked the duck, ladybug and chameleon I added). I like Yaymaker because of the convenience, all the supplies are there for you, no setting up or cleaning, and you come home with a cute piece of art after a few hours. We came to Orchid Thai to try our hand at painting. We prepaid for our class and checking in was a cinch. After checking in, you get to choose where you want to sit. There were blank canvases on an easel, along with everything required. I was a bit intimidated at first but with the instructor going over each step carefully, I think I came pretty close to the actual portrait. We painted a picture of a Buddha. It was my first time painting and I've never been much of an artist. My friends and I had a great time painting. They had Happy Hour prices on food and drinks during our class but we were already full from lunch we had at the restaurant beforehand. But we did have some suds, which took some of the pressure off. I highly recommend this either with friends, family, or a date. We were never rushed although we had been there for over three hours. read more

I've done 3 Paint Nite events in the Sacramento/Elk Grove area so far (Go #TeamNorCal). All 3 have been absolutely fun! The instructors keep it professional and energetic at the same time, and they have an assistant or two walking around to help you and provide words of encouragement. LOL! No matter what your painting skill level is, you will leave feeling somewhat artistic and accomplished (My paintings are actually hanging up on my walls!). All materials are provided, and you are welcomed (and encouraged) to order drinks from the bar/restaurant. As one instructor put it, "The more you drink, the better you paint." There is some truth in that....wine goggles (and stepping back 5 feet) DOES make your painting look like a masterpiece! So don't freak out or feel intimidated if you've never painted anything without numbers or lines. Your inner Picasso will emerge! Was very reluctant to purchase due to COVID. But decided to take a chance and purchased four tickets. Unfortunately the weather was horrible and the event location was outdoors at Waterman Brewing. The instructor Dorena Skelly2 contacted me to let me know I could cancel or reschedule due to the weather. I replied wanting to reschedule. Their system would not allow me to reschedule since the event was less than 24 hours away. I contacted customer service and jordan Cacciola Issued me tickets to use at a later date. January, I attempted to use tickets and was unable to find the tickets Jordan Cacciola issued me. Contacted Customer Service requesting tickets...no response. Contacted Dorena Skelly2 and no answer. Essentially lost out on $152. Customer service is unresponsive. Refund and reschedule policy sucks. Will not purchase from Yaymaker again! Very disappointed. read more

Perfect way to spend a Monday evening! Held at Pete's in Natomas, instructor Beth. Had a promo code so got $20 off the $45 original price, this floral piece was titled "Pop of Purple." Signed up with a handful of coworkers. I've done Happy Hour Paints and the Painted Cork before, but this was my first Paint Nite event. Same idea, apron, brushes, paint, canvas provided. No beverage included in the price of the class though. 2-3 hours allotted to complete the painting guided step-by-step by the instructor. I was a few minutes late checking in but wasn't difficult to catch up. Music plays in the background, instructor has a finished piece you can look at as well as one she is working on live with you in realtime for inspiration. She'll come around for questions/assistance or to give suggestions. What's neat is how everybody's finished work turns out so different, although provided the exact same materials. They took photos for the Paint Nite Sacramento Facebook page/album too. Overall a fun time, keep a lookout for Groupons, or promo codes on their Facebook page or e-mails! read more

I've been to two Yaymaker events. The first one was with my friend at YOLO Brewing company. This one was absolutely delightful! The instructor was great, super funny. She even had music going in the background which made it even better. Yolo brew is a modern style warehouse, with a great delicious craft beers, and a good vibe. The second Yaymaker I attended was with coworkers. This one was so much fun and the instructor was awesome as well, but I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because of the following: The bar it was held at, Mandango's in Roseville, was dingy and dirty. They were playing the loudest, offensive music. I could barely hear the poor instructor. I felt bad for her. I had to walk over and ask the bar to lower the blaring music that was screaming and rapping offensive slurs about women. Seriously Mandango's?! I'll write a separate review on them. Good thing the instructor was wonderful! Good thing we had beer and a good group! I'd recommend checking out the venue they hold it at first. Yaymaker is awesome, great experience with them, but maybe they need to be more selective on the venues they choose (Mandango's). We came away with some great painting and laughs! read more

Paint Nite was fantastic! Definitely something that you need to try at least once if you're looking for something to do for a date night. I really wanted to do "Moon Over Golden Gate Bridge" and every time I looked on the website, they were either sold out or the dates didn't work for me. So once I found one that worked, I was on it! It was located at a Starbucks, so I was a bit iffy on that since I was hoping that it would be at a bar where I could grab a drink. To my surprise, once the event started, alcohol was being offered as a drink that you could purchase if you were part of the event! I thought that was pretty mind blowing to be drinking alcohol at a Starbucks! The artist teaching us for the night was named Colleen and she was amazing! I have the drawing skills of a five year old, perhaps worse. In two hours, she taught me everything I needed to know to recreate my version of "Moon Over Golden Gate Bridge". I still think it was pretty bad but considering it was my first painting, I was happy with it. The atmosphere was so relaxing and everyone was having a good time. Definitely recommend this to everyone, no matter what your painting skills are like. If I can do it without ever painting a day in my life, so can you! read more

My boyfriend and I's first PaintNite experience was terrific! We chose a painting on their website, booked it, and got a confirmation email. On the same day, we also received a reminder email to arrive at least 15 minutes earlier for a good seat. It also came with a $20 Lyft promotion code with a reminder of "don't drink and drive." We booked our painting with Dave and it was held at Chevy's in Elk Grove at 1 PM. We arrived about 20 minutes early, but the seats were already filled-luckily, we still managed to get a great seat. Dave introduced himself, his assistant distributed the paint plates, then everyone got their painting on ;) A Chevy's server also came around to take people's orders so that they can enjoy their food/drinks while painting. Dave walked around to check on our paintings after every two to three steps and would also help the fellow painters when they were struggling. His assistant also walked around with the original painting in order for us to better compare our painting to his. The painting took about 3 hours and when we were done, they asked us to take a picture in front of their banner, which will go on their Facebook page. All in all, it was a great experience and not to mention, the instructor and the other painters are all respectful and nice people! I went with my family to a YayMaker event at Ohsima Sushi on New Years Day! It was such a wonderful experience, from the host to the co host to the restaurant and food. It was a great day. The kids freehanded their paintings and had a wonderful time as well. I would recommend YayMaker events as an family outing any day. I hate to give Paint Nite a middle of the road 3 stars, but they just didn't live up to my spoiled expectations compared to other "painting party businesses" around town. 1. $45 does not include a cocktail 2. The painting venue did not extend their happy hour for the entire event. Such a bummer when you're already on your own for a cocktail 3. The assistant just sat and chilled on his phone unless someone asked more than once for more paint. Brush water was not refilled with clean water ever, so I went ahead and did it for several guests :-/ 4. The obnoxious music was very distracting. I sound like a Nana, but I can't imagine trying a more difficult painting with the loud oontz oontz oontz in the background 5. OMG the crowd was insane! 30 people and all their painting stuff squeezed into a medium space?! Thank gawd the windows were open. The artist and assistant were very sweet and helpful, when asked questions or for assistance, and the gorgeous painting was very easy and fun to do, but I doubt I'd paint with this company again. Paint Nite is awesome! This was a great date night for my wife and I. The event is designed to be a social drinking event while learning some basic art, but my wife and I do not drink and it was still very fun. It is also a pretty affordable date and would be a really good thing for groups. We did our paint nite at La Mision Restaurant and the only downside was that there was only 1 person doing drinks so it took a while to get a soda. Other than that the venue was really nice (a tad crowded). I would highly recommend this even if you've never painted before. What a great time!! I am no artist but I have artistic talent and I love to try new artsy-fartsy things! So when my friend said - let's do a paint nite - I was HELL YA!! We took our daughters to celebrate Mother Daughter week and we had a blast. It was located in one of the meeting rooms at the Best Western on Sunrise in Roseville. So I found this deal on Groupon and the fiance and I decided to give it a try...It was worth it! This event took place at Hot Italian in Downtown Sac but has also been known to have been hosted at The Pour House. No experience necessary and all the supplies including paint, one canvas, brushes and apron were all conveniently included. :) The fiance and I Chose the painting, arrived at 5pm to Hot Italian and spent two hours with an instructor who walked up through the entire two hour session. Paint and sip or sip, sip, paint or paint & sip some more! I love the idea of having Paint Nite at restaurants and bars because we get to eat, drink and be merry! If your part of a big group or just a party of two, it makes for a fun night out. You can arrive early to grab some drinks and food but there will be a server who walks around and takes orders while you paint. I'm a beginner at anything arts and crafts so luckily, the artist/instructor was able to walk us through each step and gave us tips along the way. There's also an assistant(s) who walks around to help as well or to make sure we aren't just painting figureless blobs! Only downside was the artist/instructor was moving way too fast. Not sure if it's because we started 10minutes late and he was trying to play catch up or that was just his teaching technique. Either way, it was just too fast. I didn't feel like I was able to get my painting the way I wanted so I settled and kept it moving. The end result of my painting came out nice for my first time in a long time using a paint brush. My girlfriends and I saw a Groupon for $25/person versus $45 on the website. I refuse to pay full price for something if I can help it ;). So for the price it's worth a try. Total fun!! Great for groups and parties!! My girl had a paint nite party for her bday and we all bought living social deals. Basically you buy the voucher and sign up on the website and they will send you a confirmation. Make sure you enter in the right email for the confirmation email! I didn't do that! Love love Paint Nite!! We went last weekend at Alley Kats bar downtown Sac! It was in the back portion of the bar. We have no painting experience whatsoever but it felt really easy to follow. The instructor was soo helpful and very patient with the whole group. My bf ended up liking it as much as I did after all! ( he was skeptical about going) lol. They give you a break mid painting to let it dry and grab some drinks!! A little bit of advice! Get there early if you want front dibs on seats so you can get a better view of the instructor. This is my second time trying paint night and I am really disappointed. The first time was a great experience with a really fun instructor and a really nice location. He played music and was really helpful in if you fell behind or just needed a little help. This second time was a really nice instructor. I felt a bit more rushed than the first time but I chalk it up to just not messing with her teaching Style. What I'm giving the one-star review for was that are paint night was scheduled for the end of June in Sacramento. If anybody knows anything about Sacramento in late June it is 100 plus degrees outside and this event was Outdoors. I feel like when you book a paint night if it is going to be outdoors especially in the middle of summer with 100 degree heat that should be advertised to a person before they booked it. Both my mom and I said we would never have booked this had we known it was Outdoors for two hours from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. when it was 95 degrees at that point. This paint night was supposed to be a Mother's Day gift for my mom, I had origanally had one booked on Mother's Day that they cancelled at the last minute and by the time the cancellation notice went out all other paintings on Mother's Day we're booked, so this was already a re booking that I had. It just did not live up to my expectations of a Mother's Day gift for my mom. We have other painting outings in the actual City that we live in. I would expect better from a service that makes you travel all over the greater Sacramento area for your painting. If this is the kind of experience that they're going to be offering I would rather just stay in my hometown and go to one of the painting Studios. read more

Friends of Elk Elk Grove Animal Shelter, a nonprofit gave them a $100. deposit to host at Mimi's in Elk Grove. They booked it in Sacramento. Had to cancel due to lack of minimum attendance. We tried to get our deposit back but they refused. I am still unable to get a receipt for that. We tried again to set something up and covid hit and we had to cancel all fundraising events. I have asked for the deposit back several times with absolutely no response. We are a nonprofit and I would like to think they would be more receptive to our request. read more

After one Paint Nite, I can easily say it's very fun and enjoyed it. So the one I attended was at the bar called The Bunker. The actual painting is done in a back part of the bar. After completing my fifth painting through Paint Nite, here's my review: First of all, you are required to prepay for this event through online. On the day of the event, they request you to arrive 15 minutes early for check-in and sitting. If you reach early, then you can select the spots. I enjoy going early to pick the seats upfront. It's easier to see what the instructors are doing if you sit in the front. In school, I preferred sitting at the back but not in the paint class. Come all energized and have lots of caffeine to keep you awake for 2-4 hour painting class. 1. Location: Paint Nite does painting at different locations. My favorite is the Chevy's. At Chevy's they provided us free chips and salsa. And we had delicious unlimited margaritas which you have to pay. The server was pretty great. She kept taking our food and drinks order. That sums up as awesome waitress. Other places you are required to order at the bar or ahead of time. 2. Paint quality - I noticed every paint studio uses different paint quality. I noticed on my recent visit to Chevy's painting the paint quality was not the best. The paint was not shiny. It was dull unlike other paint studios and paint nite events. 3. Instructors - Some of the paint night instructors are great like Big Daddy. 4. Canvas: Some places they sketch out the painting for you in advance. You only need to color in. Just remember every studio does it differently. 5. Advice: Purchase a groupon deal or use the 35% off coupon because it helps. No matter what your painting skill level are, after seeing your painting you will feel accomplished. You'll be amazed that you do have a talent. Just don't quit your daytime job. Recommendation: Some of the great ideas for paint Nites are to host a birthday, graduation or bachelorette event. Btw: The companies name is Paint Nite but they do painting in daytime too. First time at Paint Nite! I've gone to other paint party events and I'm only knocking off a star because I was disappointed that our Paint Nite entry did not come with a drink. Having a drink is one half of the equation to bring out your inner paint skills. (for me at least...) I bought a groupon and it was very easy to book online. They have a ton of options at various restaurants throughout the Sacramento region so it'll be easy to find a painting you like that fits your schedule. Our particular night they had a new artist helping them. Vivian was competent, patient, and threw out some good comedic lines to break the tension. All the materials are provided, too. Incidentally, if you are not the drinking alcohol type, there is no pressure to drink as you paint. In fact, our party had a variety of non-alcoholic beverages and still had a great time. In the end, our group had three similar, yet unique, masterpieces to call our own, a bit of tension release, and some well needed laughter and fellowship. MY FIRST PAINT NITE EXPERIENCE: August at Alley Katz bar on O St. Set up in the back, past the restrooms of the bar. Go ahead and check in with one of the artist and they'll tell you to grab a green apron upon the seat you want. You can either order a drink/food from the bartender in the back or out in front. Rosemary was our instructor and she was very friendly and helpful. She guided us step by step on what to do and allowed sufficient time. Once the background was painted, we had 15 minutes break to the paint to set but more importantly, get a drink! I never know want to order but this time I got a Amaretto Sour, so tasty (a bit sweet)! I really enjoy that aspect, where you can drink while doing something creative. We probably painted for another hour before we took a group photo with our finished product and cleaned up. We left with an artwork we created and a great memory. Bf said he had fun and will do it again based on the painting. I would definitely do it again! ALLEY KATZ EXPERIENCE: Go to that yelp page for my review :) PRICE: $45 through their site or $25 through Groupon that can be redeemed within a certain time frame after purchase, like a year. My husband and I decided to try something different and sign up for Paint Nite. I'm so glad we did. We had a really good time. We signed up for one of the easier paintings. I think we will increase the difficulty level on our next visit. It's a great night for friends or a date. You can orders drinks as you paint and/or meet some of the other people there.
