I love Yarnify - the store and the people. I had knitting lessons with Rowan and Anna - they are amazing. The yarn here too is beautiful. I love the Yarnify community and I'll be coming back for a long time. read more

I've been to yarn shops all over this country, since I've lived all over the place, and you know immediately if it's got a good vibe or snooty vibe. Yarnify has a REALLY good vibe. Zero snootiness. Thank God! Not sure what these negative reviewers are complaining about, but I'm chalking them up to being your usual nitpickers. Barbara, Yarnify's owner, is friendly, helpful, knowledgable (in both crochet and knitting - very hard to find in a yarn shop owner BTW) and carries a wide variety of yarns and wide variety of supplies. If you can't find what you are looking for in here, then you have issues deeper than yarn. I have been looking for a new place since Keep You In Stitches closed and I know the women who hung out there are meeting in their condo party rooms in the Gold Coast area, but you can't just show up to knit. You have to be invited and then vetted. Um, no thanks. So, if you want a yarn shop that a) offers a wide variety of classes; b) has enough yarn to satisfy your yarn cravings and c) has a welcoming, yarn-centered, friendly, quirky vibe and the yarn table that holds all secrets... (and all knitters know what that means) - then look no further. I cannot wait to spend my free time hanging out knitting there. read more

I agree with the other reviewers the store was better when it was Loopy Yarns. The selection of yarns is not that great aside from cascade. Also the clerks make you feel like you're a nuisance when you ask to have the yarn wound. I'm paying marked up prices for your yarn yes please take 2 minutes and wind it for me. I bought a couple skeins of yarn from clearance and the clerk refused to wind it because their policy is they don't wind clearance. WTF? Also the clerk must've thought I was going to steal yarn bc she asked me not to take the cheap cascade I was buying down to the clearance section out of their site. I'll visit other yarn store from now on or I'll just invest in a winder and buy online where yarn is cheaper read more

Bad customer service. I went to Yarnify to buy a specific type of yarn for a blanket. While they carried the yarn I was looking for, the color selection was poor. When I asked if they would be replenishing to stock with other colors in the future, I was told, "probably not." So instead of purchasing more (for a given sale) or offering to make a special order, they lost a customer. Instead, I bought the yarn online (for a cheaper price) and will be doing so in the future. I'm a huge proponent of supporting local small businesses but not when the customer service is bad. Maybe they are going out of business? They did recently change their name... read more

It is a shame that this store has gone downhill since now owners took over. All the good staff is leaving and they have started carrying cheap yarn. I am shopping for a new store. read more

I had always done business with Loopy Yarns!!!!!!!! It was terrific!!!!!!! However the new owner has NO idea how to run this business!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! She is NOT interested in customer service. I have had bad experiences with this person and I will NEVER do business with this person /shop again. It is also unfortunate because her staff is/was remarkable!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Everyone was very helpful, knowledgeable, and very pleasant to work with!!!!!!!!!! No doubt she is driving everyone away and doesn't really care!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There are many good yarn shops in the city and they will be very happy to pick up the business from these customers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It is too bad that people like this are in business!!!!!!!! read more

I shopped at Loopy for many years, took multiple classes and bought all my supplies exclusively from them. Part of the reason I did this was because the staff is fantastic- they remember your face, your projects and are always super helpful. I love Krista and Meg. I now live 1,600 miles away but still frequently stop in (as I travel to Chicago each month) to buy my yarn and share my projects but have recently been disappointed in the new ownership. You can clearly tell the owner is not used to working with customers, she isn't engaging and at times I found her rude. The first time I stopped in was just before close as I was going downstairs to an open knit. I told her I would be quick as I was just picking up a few balls. She asked me three times if I wanted them all wound which I told her the first time I did. Under her breath she said she had to close because her husband was waiting. When I told her I travel to her shop because I like(d) the selection she asked me "if I thought about shopping local"?! Seriously! Aren't you a small business owner? Don't you know that there are a million sites online that I can buy my supplies from (usually for slightly less)? The new owner does not knit, which is fine, but the selection of yarns for knitters has certainly declined and while I used to always be able to find exactly what I was looking for at Loopy in the past that has not been the case when I have visited the last three times (and I have had to order online). I'm giving 3 stars because I still like the ladies that work there, and I'll try to make it in for knit alongs etc. I'll just call ahead to see if they have yarn before I take the EL to the Loop from now on. I hope as the new owner transitions that Yarnify! can become what Loopy was. read more

I actually love the service more now at Yarnify then when it was Loopy. Customer service has been great, everyone has been extremely helpful and polite. I highly recommended it, and I do not live close to downtown. read more

I'm so glad Vicki found a buyer who wanted to keep this a yarn store when she decided to retire. As a South Sider who relies on public transit this is the most convenient higher-end yarn store in the city for me, and I love the staff. The new owner is a crocheter and seemed friendly and knowledgeable when she sat in on Crochet Club in the store a few weeks ago. I love the new yarns she's brought in, a lot of new sock yarns, and squishy natural fibers in neutral colors also, as well as my beloved Manos del Uruguay. The new class schedule sounds promising also (get on the email list for more information than is currently on the new website). read more

Yarnify (formerly Loopy Yarns) is a nice yarn shop in the South Loop area and its great to have this resource nearby. I was a loyal customer at Loopy and took several classes there but the stock got a bit tired so I often found myself looking elsewhere for yarn. Since the new owner took over the store is becoming rejuvenated in terms of appearance and there is lots of great new yarn always in stock - and constantly coming in, it seems. Yes, the new owner is a bit socially awkward but I've not found her to be rude or unwelcoming - and the old Loopy staff (Meg, Kritsa, Taylor) are still there and as cheery and helpful as ever. The newly configured team has some growing pains to get through but I have faith any kinks with be sorted out. I look forward to expanded class offerings and events and am happy to have a place in the neighborhood to meet and share with other fiber enthusiasts. read more

I visited Yarnify to look for yarn for a project. Loopy was always so friendly and fun to visit, I was hoping Yarnify would be the same. I was very disappointed. I was the only person in the store, and felt as though they were watching every move I made. I buy most of my yarn online, so when I visit a LYS, I like to take my time and enjoy looking at everything, feeling the yarn textures, reading the labels, and look for color combinations that I would like to use together. I was looking for something that worked with a yarn I had already purchased. One of the ladies asked if I needed help. I told Her what I was trying to find. She went to a shelf and grabbed a skein of yarn, and handed it to me. I thanked her but said that wasn't a color I could use, and would prefer to find what I was looking for, myself. She went back to what she was doing, in a bit of a huff, and continued to watch every move I made. It felt uncomfortable, and unwelcoming. I found something I thought could work, and some overrpriced Malabrigo Rasta yarn. I showed the other lady what I had chosen and she shrugged me off, like...whatever. I couldn't get out of there fast enough, and don't plan on returning. They have literally sucked the energy out of that store. Pretty things, but with so many other options for purchasing knitting supplies...not worth the pain of such a depressing experience. So sad, what they've done to that place. read more

I do not live in Chicago but my daughter and her family do. I have shopped at Loopy Yarn in the past and loved the store! I just spent 6 weeks in Chicago and was knitting a top for myself to wear to a wedding! I purchased the yarn at my hometown knitting store. During this project I had many mistakes that needed correcting and questions that I needed help with. I went to the store a minimum of 6 times and the girls, especially Megan, were fantastic! They were friendly, knowledgable, patient and they taught me a lot! I purchased the yarn for my next 2 projects from them. Yesterday I could not find the pattern from one of the projects on Ralvery and I called the store and the lady who answered was able to help me find the pattern! My top ended up beautiful and I look forward to returning to Chicago and visiting the store again! Thanks ladies! read more
