As a spinner, so far I've had a mediocre experience with this shop. I first went there when I was just getting started. The salesgirl was very helpful and I left with a spindle and some fiber that she claimed would be good for a beginner. However, one of the fibers she recommended was alpaca - it took me 6 weeks of constant spinning and a few classes online before I could manage to spin that alpaca. It was NOT a beginners fiber. I later learned too that I could have gotten a spindle for half the price I was charged. I returned to the store recently for the 2nd time, looking for prepped fiber and hand carders. I found the fiber prices to be higher than what I'd seen online and at shows, but perhaps this is normal when going to a shop - and I'd prefer to feel my fiber than order online anyway so I was ok with paying a little bit more. I was told I could order the carders and have them shipped to me free, but they might take anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 months to come in. I could order the same carders for the same price on Amazon today and get them next week, so I declined. I got home and started carding some of my new fiber, and the dye is coming off on my hands and turning them green. I likely won't return to this store - it's not close, I drove 1.5 hours to get to it yesterday and my experiences here have been a bit disappointing. read more

After visiting a few NH yarn shops, I have to say I was blown away by this one. Not only is the staff extremely knowledgeable, but they cater to all levels of knitters. There's bags of unprocessed wool for those of us who like to spin yarn, row upon row of different kinds of hand died yarn (that they actually hand die themselves) and a great selection of everything you would need for your project. This place is big, but with a small shop feel. I didn't get that awkward feeling you get when visiting established yarn stores, everyone was friendly and gave me great advice on my current project. I rarely write reviews on businesses, but after visiting this store, I felt compelled. I read a review about a smell, I didn't get that, unless they are referring to the unprocessed wool section - us spinners find freshly sheered wool quite nostalgic! This place is definitely my go-to yarn store from now on. I'm even going to sign up for some classes. Knowledge like this is rare now a days. They've even talked me into starting a lace shawl that I've fallen in love with on their display. I am looking forward to finishing my current project and getting started on the lace shawl. I have been in the store a few times and always noticed a very musty smell. It should have tipped me off but they had a yarn I was looking for. When I got it home, the musty smell was so strong I couldn't stand working on it. I tried to return the unopened skeins but since it was a sale item I was unable to. The smell was so bad I just left the remaining skeins at the store for them to do with what they chose. Hopefully they did not try to sell it again! The downstairs smells even mustier than upstairs as though they have been flooded and not cleaned up properly. The odor has seeped into their product unfortunately. read more

Selection is decent, although a snarky vibe was immediately palpable. I mentioned to owner and her clerk that I was from out-of-state and wanted to pick up an easy project to keep me busy. Later, I spotted the pattern they sold me for $9 as FREE on ravelry. This, after purchasing 6 skeins of marked-up Ultra Alpaca and pricey needles. I don't know. I love supporting small businesses, but there's something a little too entrepreneurial or mean-spirited about dinging a one-time customer ...I guess I've encountered more generous, kind-hearted knit shop owners in my travels. read more

This is one of my very favorite places. The yarn selection is beautiful, the owners and staff are friendly and knowledgeable. I started going to the shop for their classes--within 2 sessions, they taught me how to knit, and I keep re-upping my classes for the camaraderie and because the instructors help me to keep adding to my skills. The staff here is wonderful--even when I am not in class, I can bring my mistakes to them so they can set me back on the right course. And, the yarn! They carry such beautiful yarn. Their local, Ivy Brambles line is my favorite. That yarn is such a joy to knit with--it truly makes the process of knitting it as much fun as wearing the finished project. I would not recommend this yarn store to anyone. I had a notion that was broken and when I tried to return it, less than a week after I bought it, I was told there are no returns on notions. I said my sales slip indicates I can return as long as I have my slip. The girl gave me a hard time and I asked for a store credit. She said they do not give store credits. She did say I could swap it for another one, after she gave me a song and dance. She said it was the owners store policy, and she pointed to a sign on the wall behind her approximately 15 feet away and read it to me. I said can you get the sign any smaller, I can barely read it. and I said it should indicate that on the sales receipt. I asked to speak with the store owner and the girl said she works from home and hardly ever comes in because of covid. I said do you really want to lose a customer over $8? That was when she said I could swap it. It's a knitting counter, I do not feel this is good customer service. I therefore will NOT buy anything from that establishment again. This is a full service yarn store with a large selection of yarn. They have clearance items in the basement. There is a large and private classroom in the back of the store, I'm sure that makes it easy to concentrate during class time, rather than being in front of all the customers. In the back room, they have a selection of quilting fabrics. The store workers seem to be very knowledgable about their inventory. They are willing to take pre-orders and to ship. They have a great selection of Prism Yarns by Laura Bryant. This is great, because these can be hard to find in the flesh! They also have an extensive collection of yarn by Ivy Brambles, a local company. This is in addition to many of the standards you have come to expect. Do not order anything online from Yarn and Fiber. In August, I had to post a complaint at the local Better Business Bureau to which the company never responded. Since then, a couple more people have filed complaints with the BBB and also posted problems on their Facebook page. Yarns showing in stock are not and take a month to get to you and the company will never inform you of this. They didn't communicate to me that it wasn't in stock. I would certainly have cancelled and gone to another shop and ordered it if they had told me it wasn't in stock when I ordered. The yarn was shown as being in stock all the time I was trying to communicate with them, almost a whole month...this is a deceptive practice on their part. I was charged $7.49 for two day delivery when it took 30 days to receive my yarn. Their shipping policy is free shipping over 7 days. My numerous telephone calls and emails were ignored. After almost a month, I finally get an email saying it's coming from the manufacturer and they were having it shipped from the manufacturer because they told me, the manufacturer had run out and they were running another dye lot....sure, yeah, ok, whatever, that's a crazy lie. So this store is misrepresenting themselves as having the yarn in stock when it really doesn't. I needed the yarn; I found it online at a very good store called yarn.com and it was delivered within three days! So, go into the store and buy what's there but do not order from them. All I wanted was my shipping refunded since it took 30 days. Deceptive. read more
