The Children's Orchard in Newburyport just relocated, and the new store boasts the same great prices and friendly service as the old location, but with the added benefits of more space, bigger selection, better lighting and WAY BETTER parking! Not only is the parking free and plentiful, but I somehow manage to check off more things on my To Do list when I visit the new location because of everything that's right there...haircut for my son next door, grocery shopping at one of the two grocery marts, pick up prescriptions at the pharmacy there, etc. I also find it easy to drop off clothes to sell as opposed to the old location, which did not allow for such convenient access. And because the new store is more open, it's much easier to maneuver a stroller in and around the racks of clothes, shoes and baby equipment. I've been a customer and seller to the Children's Orchard for 7 years. From a buyer's standpoint, I find the prices reasonable (for example: $3-$7 for preschoolers' pants) and the selection varied and rotated frequently. I've bought everything--from infant car seat covers and baby equipment to snowpants and boys' suits to Easter dresses and playwear to kids' shoes and maternity clothes. If you're looking for something, The Children's Orchard in Newburyport has it. The owner, Kate, takes great care to sell only gently used (and sometimes brand new) items. She even carries new items I never expected...rainjackets, umbrellas, dancewear, hair clips, tights, swim suits, and toys. And they are very good about taking returns in exchange for merchandise credit. As a seller to the Orchard, I love that they are not a traditional consignment shop. When you bring something in to sell, you get your money RIGHT AWAY. They are purchasing your items outright from you and reselling them (as opposed to consigning them). They also offer you the option of taking a little more for your items if you take your payout in the form of merchandise credit (which is terrific if you are a frequent shopper there). The first time I sold to the Orchard, I was surprised by some of the things Kate did not take, but I appreciated her honesty that a particular item was out of season, or that a particular brand did not seem to sell well, etc. This helped me weed out the types of things that I hang on to and which I can move on to other outlets. My interactions with the owner and the staff have been positive. Kate is a mother herself, and she seems to know how challenging it can sometimes be to shop with toddlers and preschoolers. Many times, she has helped distract my children with toys or cool things to look at long enough for me to quickly browse without feeling like I was torturing my children (and losing my own sanity) in the process. She has quickly steered me to the private store bathroom when my almost-toilet-trained children had to go RIGHT THAT MINUTE. Kate's gone out of her way for me when she knows I'm on the hunt for something in particular (boys' wool dress coat or specific snowgear) that she didn't have in the store at the time. On more than one occasion, Kate took my information and contacted me down the road when something similar to what I was looking for came into her store. That's what I call customer service! I would highly recommend the Children's Orchard in Newburyport to anyone looking to buy or sell children's clothing, shoes and baby equipment. You will not be disappointed by the bounty of items you come away with for less than you pay each month for coffee. read more

In response to Melanie H. I have to strongly disagree. A few things make me wonder.....Did she come to the Newburyport store thinking she would get more money than the place in Revere, which was probably closer? Did she really believe that her items were not purchased even though they were "spotless"? Did she think by using vulgar language, which anyone in close proximity, including children, could have overheard, that she would intimidate Kate, the owner? My myriad selling experiences with Kate have been nothing but professional and financially successful. On occasion, she was able to point out a few items she declined to purchase that were stained or had more wear than what was acceptable. I immediately agreed knowing that I would not purchase that re-sale item. Those items and some other off season pieces she was happy to donate for me to one of the several charitable organizations around greater Newburyport that she makes donations to weekly....weekly! In a re-sale business, Kate's goal is to purchase, not decline items. So I must conclude Melanie's items simply did not meet the high standards of the Newburyport Children's Orchard, which again, was a dual winner of the Best of North Shore 2014 for children's clothing and re-sale store! I will happily continue to sell and shop here. And I hope YELP posts my review as it seems only the negative ratings appear visible even though there are many more positive ones on this store! I have been consigning and buying from Newburyport Children's Orchard for over 5 years now. In that time I have never ever had a bad experience in fact Kate the owner and her team have gone out of their way to accommodate ME over that time period making me a devoted and loyal customer. The staff have always been friendly and pleasant. This new store is laid out well, always stocked with great buys, Kate has a great eye, clean and well lit. They have kept their eye out for me over the years if I needed something in particular and alerted me when they had what I was looking for. The have been extremely easy to consign with even working around my hectic schedule. I can very simply say that Kate the owner delivers exactly what I look for in a retail experience and I look forward to the next five years!! read more

No need to pay full price for great children clothing with this store. It has a great selection of everything you need from pajamas to jeans to coats. The clothes are always in great condition and the prices cannot be beat. I love going in often to see what expensive gems I can find for cheap. For example, I bought my son a sweater that I later saw in a children's boutique on Charles St. They also have a great selection of brand new toys like Melissa and Doug and tons of baby supplies. I love doing Business Here. I have been doing Business with Kate since she was in Downtown Newburyport. I love this location much better. It is easier to get in and out of. She is very friendly. She is very flexible with making appointments. I love the prices. When I come in with my son's clothes she buys about 90 percent of it. She is a small business owner and she is doing a great job. I drive about 25 minutes out of my way, just to see her. I highly recommend this business. The staff is also very friendly. After awhile they start to feel like family. read more

The Orchard is on my shortlist for family trips up to the Port. We always wind up with bags full of clothes and stuff...always at a HUGE discount to the new retail price.
