Cardsmart is like Hallmark's kid sister. It's a franchise so they mostly look alike. They carry…read moremany similar items as other card and/or gifty shops so you can find candles, christening gifts, wedding paraphernalia, jewelry, purses, etc. They advertise "50% off every card, every day". However…read moreshe heard my story about my nephews 4th birthday wish for some Starwars Angrybirds pants ( that i discovered are out of production ) and even though she was super busy and i could tell it was true. She took my name and number and said she would look when she got a chance. I really appreciate that because i live in danvers and driving there for nothing would have been a bummer, but i didnt even tell her where i was coming from, she did it out of kindness. Now keep in mind i have called a bunch of thrift stores looking for these pants and most said i would have to look myself and some just said no without a care or a second thought.....lol. But Mary took the time to try and help me, and i really appreciate that. She even kept my name and put the pants on a wish list so if they came in she would call. If thats not great American customer service i dont what is, I also left a review for the rowley location because i had a good experience there as well. and when i saw the low reviews i felt the need to help and tell my story.

This is one of those stores that looks small but that you could spend longer than you thought browsing in. Unlike many vintage shops with mildew and funky smelling items, everything here is pristine and clean. You never know what you'll find ... home decor, furniture, jewelry, wall art. The staff is SO helpful here ... as near as I can tell its an all-female owned collective. There are a few different sellers who have space here, so its a varied theme. The owner was absolutely super helpful in answering questions and facilitating a sale. She even helped us park and load a small piece of furniture into our car. I really can't say enough great things about the owner's helpfulness and the friendliness of her staff. We make it a point to stop here each time we pass through or by Newburyport and each time we come across something new and fun. There are a few similar shops in town but we find the selection and prices are the best here. Newburyport itself is such a fun little town to walk around. It feels like a little town in England. They even have a small store which sells English goods across the street from Green Plum. (see my review of that shop.) The only thing I'll say is that it would be nice if there was some hand sanitizer at the door when you walk in. And because there are a lot of cool things to look at in a long, narrow shop, it can get a bit crowded near the cash register area from a social distancing aspect.

My only complaint, which will hurt the business in the long term, and prompted me to give 3 stars instead of 4, is the anti-conservative merchandise sold at the front desk. This is a well run business, and clearly the owner puts in a lot of effort every day, thus they are deserving of an A-OK rating.
