Bob does take the money and run. Crew broke my fence post left logs in my neighbors yard. Paid him in full with good faith. Never came back. He got away with breaking my fence and now I have to pay to fix it. Also first day here crew was awful then complained the whole day. second day they finished but the stress was not worth it. I give them 2 stars for their affordable price to remove trees but when it came time to grind the stumps (which I paid $300 in cash) they never came back. They also left holes in my lawn. I would NOT recommend them - they are not people of their word. They made a BIG mess in my yard and are not keeping their promise to clean it up. They dug up my lawn with big equipment and plowed pea stone all over my grass. Robert came out to price the job, and then scheduled a date to perform the work. When I first met with him I noticed he was an individual with a strong personality. After the scheduled date, he was a no show no call. I am still perplexed as to why he was interested in doing the tree removal only when the weather didn't permit. He was looking to remove trees on the property after a snow storm, with temp. in high 40's, while the ground was very wet from 18" melting snow and rain. He also insisted on plowing my crushed stone driveway, which he had no knowledge off. When I reached out to him with concerns regarding the tree removal and the weather I got no response since then. In breach of contract for accepting payment in full and not completing job. Several phone calls and promises to come back and complete were not fulfilled. Job was for tree removal and stump grinding. Person who was to grind stump same day as removal was supposedly "right behind" the crew and owner on the job. I do not recommend this company. They have no integrity, break promises, and take money for work they do not complete! Update: It took many, many months but they finally reimbursed me for the cost of the stump removal. I am sure this is because I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. That may help you if they took payment for work not completed. read more

I have a very hard time believing the negative reviews. If I could give Yardstick Inc. a higher than 5 stars I would. I had 6 LARGE trees removed, stumps ground and two additional trees trimmed. Bob and his team were on time, professional, worked all day and when they completed each day all of the limbs, wood was removed and the area was cleaned. The price for this job was extremely reasonable. Three of the trees were not easy trees to cut down, they had to be very careful not to cause any damage to my house of my neighbors. Bottomline is I would not hesitate to recommend and also use Yard Stick inc. again. read more

I can't complain about the work or the price. The work was done on time, efficiently and neatly. The price was reasonable and the guys who came were very nice. My only beef is that they took down part of a chain link fence and didn't put it back together afterward. I called repeatedly for several weeks and got repeated promises that it would be done. It is probably a ten minute job and I could go out and buy the parts needed for a few bucks and do it myself, but I just haven't done it. One of those "principle" things that isn't bothering anyone but me! LOL That was 2 years ago and we are still waiting for this small detail to be fixed. Yardstick Inc installed a fence on my property. I gave them the deposit and they put up the fence completely wrong. The rails were not at standard height. The pickets were attached with finish nails. Robert Montgomery said he had a general contractors license as well as an arborist license. Turns out he is unlicensed. I went to the contractors board to file a complaint. He whole fence has to be pulled down. He has threatened to come and take the materials back. Bob Montgomery threatened that he contacted his lawyers. Unlicensed, dishonest and unskilled. Claim filed. Pictures taken. I had to purchase replacement rails and pickets as well as order a gate. The labor to remove everything that is currently installed incorrectly is daunting. We hired this company to remove two trees and a leader from another tree. They began the job but were unprepared for the extent of it (despite coming to give us an estimate). It has now been 22 days since they began the project, (and left all of the wood littered in our yard), and we have not heard from them, despite multiple attempts on our end to contact them. OUTSTANDING ! Hired for a HUGE tree removal after the great blowdown of 2015. WARWICK got hammered August 4, 2015. We called local tree services for DAYS no answer, shocked at the level of damage this storm caused. One call to YardStick (outside of our local area tree services) one week later was answered politely and a appointment for the estimate date was agreed upon. Owner arrived promptly, he was courteous, and I was pleased with the estimated cost for removal. Scheduled date was pushed up a week when an opening in the schedule appeared. If there was lower than 1 star, that would be my rating. Those guys did a job for my next door neighbor and destroyed (trampling by foot and dragging large tree debris) my fence, 2 flowering shrubs and some evergreens. On my property, they knocked over a birdbath and threw it behind my shed. Also, they moved a large log from my property, placed it on neighbor's side ... and this was after I TWICE told those hackers to stay off my property. This is nothing to say about how they handled neighbor's work - most unprofessional tree work I have ever observed, and I have had recent big jobs done. read more

I hired and paid yardstick $2450 on 3/31/17. The next day my neighbor informed me his curb was damaged by yardstick when the were removing trees. I called and emails yardstick to file a claim. For two months I was told the owner was in the hospital and he would come and look at the damage. This Never Happened. Over the next 4 months I call and emailed to get a resolution. My calls were not answered and the email were ignored. I turned off caller ID and then my call was answered. I was told Farm Family insurance would send me a claim form. This never happened. I spoke with the office manager of yardstick and she said she would take care of it. This never happen and my calls and emails ignored. I opened a claim with my home owners insurance copy. My insurance company spoke with Yardstick and they said they were not going to pay for the damage. When my company called Farm Family to file a claim they said no policy existed for Yardstick. So if you want 6 months of BS hire yardstick. read more

Our experience with RI Firewood was one we wish we never had to write about in this fashion. I called to specifically ask if the wood was ready to burn. The answer I got from Bob (Robert) was "Yes, it is absolutely dry and ready to burn now" We decided to start with a cord just to see the quality first. The wood was delivered on a very cold day. If you burn wood a lot then you know to look for certain characteristics of ready to burn wood. One way is to look at the bark. Dry wood that is ready to burn will have bark that easily pulls away from the wood. The second way is to bang two pieces together and the sound will give a good indication. A "crack" sound, is indicative of ready to burn wood, while a "thud" noise points to wood with a high moisture concentration The wood delivered neither had pulling away bark, nor did it make a crack noise. Immediately, we put some in the woodstove and sure enough, this wood was not even close to ready to burn. It would not catch and only really smoldered. I contacted them right away and the office person emailed me back in a timely fashion to tell me they would make good. She stated the driver must have pulled the wood from the wrong pile. Where the wood was delivered on a Friday, they could not get here until Monday morning "First thing" to swap it out Where we already stacked the new wood on top of the wood we had, this meant no heat from the wood stove for the whole weekend. I was ok with it because they acknowledged us right away. Monday morning came and no driver came. I emailed them and they later stated that they could not make it today but can come Tuesday. Tuesday did not work for me. I already missed a day of going into the office Monday because they blew us off, so we agreed Thursday at 7:30 a.m. they would come. Thursday came and I emailed them early on to confirm they would be on time. I had an appointment at my sons school at 11:30. An hour passed until I received an email stating they would be there by 9:00, an hour and a half later. Well, the driver, the owners son, showed up at 11:20. I show him the wet wood he delivered last week and he asked me if It was wet because it rained. (My wood id stacked, off the ground and has the top 18 inches covered) no, I said, it isn't because it rained. When I asked to look at the wood they brought to swap out, it too was wet. In fact, where the day was pretty warm, it was very easy to determine this wood was far from burnable. I refused the wood and emailed the company to tell them they can just refund the money I paid and come get the wood. a day later, Friday, They agreed to do so but again, would not get there until Monday. Sadly, I believed them again and sure enough, Monday came and they said the driver did not come in due to the weather. Weather.....it is 48 degrees and is only forecasted to rain...beginning at 3:00 p.m. At this point, I am all set. I don't need my money back and their poor business practices will certainly cost them more than they cost me. I can get more wood delivered from another company and leave this in the back until it is ready to burn. My guess is we are at least 6 months out. My advice to anyone considering buying wood from these people is to be home when they say they will deliver it to fully inspect it. This way you can turn it away immediately and not miss 3 days of wasted time waiting for them to do what they say they are going to. Their product is truly awful and their service follow up is even worse. Such a disappointment. Not sure how a small business will stay in business with such terrible service. These guys are awesome at snow removal. They just spent over 45 minutes re-plowing my driveway that some other bozo spent 5 minutes on. They came three times over this weekend's blizzard, well-equipped with a large plow, two snow blowers and shovels. They dug our walkways AND our cars out, then helped me move the cars so they could clean up our parking spots. They actually pushed my husband's car! Above and beyond, for sure! read more

Much like other reviews on here about Yardstick, the owner was in breach of an established contract. Owner Bob Montgomery was hired to clear trees and grind stumps. He was paid in full on the day of the tree removal, and told me he was taking 50 dollars off for each stump because he couldn't complete the job in the same day. He told me they would be back after the week to do the stumps. 7 calls later and 2 promised dates, they still hadn't completed the job. It took them six weeks to come back, by that point I had already filed a complaint with BBB. They left all the clippings and a large piece of wood from one of the stumps on my lawn. Then he had his secretary call me demanding payment for the 100.00 he took off the bill for the stump grinding. So basically, he wants to be paid fully for a job that it took 6 weeks to complete. He was totally dishonest and refused to communicate directly with me after he left the site and was paid in full. I wish I had read the reviews on Bob and Yardstick here and on BBB. I would never had hired him, totally unprofessional and a dishonest business person. read more

Stay away!! I have been trying to get ahold of them to solve an issue for more than 3 weeks since they came to our house. I just get sent to their voicemail and no call back from anyone. Didn't complete the work we payed for and are now alleging we had agreed to a price different than what we initially had quoted, we have it in writing, so they just wanted to do a whole new quote accommodated to their benefit. Don't expect any integrity from any of the personnel and even less from the owner. They have had several complaints with the Better Business Bureau so you know they have a tendency to do these kind of embezzlement. read more

This company deserved no star at all. I could not post this comment if I did not choose a star. I hired this company (due to local company) to cut my backyard hedge. Anyway, they finally did the job after couple calls, but it's far off to what I wanted when they did the quote. The quoter(boss) only said they did their best and knew this job was not done as my request, but he insisted to charge me $400 because his employee were at my property for ~4 hours (I did not agree this, but anyway I did pay it since I did not want to argue with it). Then, I found they took my tree topping sticks 2 days later, which my teen kid did it previous weekend and we left it at my backyard, which was far from hedge area. I called and verified with the owner about the tree sticks and he promised to send it back to me in the afternoon, but it never happened since 2013 november ( I did reach the owner couple calls and he always promised to deliver the tree sticks back to me, after I sent emails, texts, and also leave messages). The reason he took the sticks was he thought his employee did the tree topping, so I asked him should give me about the tree topping service if he thought his employee did it. On 8/5 Yardstick performed brush cutting and vegetation spraying on my 500' driveway and area surrounding the house. Bob Montgomery said that if any area needed respraying I should contact them. The results of spraying wouldn't be apparent for several days. A week later it was clear that a 150' strip in the center of the driveway was not adequately sprayed. It was lush green, while the sides of the driveway were brown because they had been properly sprayed. I left a message for Mr Montgomery on 8/13. When I hadn't heard from him by 8/18 I sent the company an email detailing the problem. From 8/19 until 8/30 I contacted Yardstick by phone no less than eight times to ask when they would complete the work. I was told they'd be out by the end of the day, or the next day, or in one case an exact time for an appointment. As far as I know no one ever came out, and the area has certainly not been sprayed. read more

We used Yardstick in Aug.to remove four trees and trim some others. It was such an disappointing experience. After they left, I realized to my dismay a 15 feet long and 3-4 inch deep tire marks on my front lawn! It looked like the cherry picker truck moved backward and then forward which made the damage specially bad. So I called Bob, the owner to report the incident and asked if they could come to fix it since it was an accident and a mistake on their part. The secretary took the message and promised me it would be taken care of. But there were no returning calls from Bob. I must have called again close to 10 times over the next three weeks, later wrote them a letter, but never received any replies. Then I came online and read some reviews about this company. They are all very negative, very similar complains - unfinished work, unprofessional, unreliable etc. I regret I did not check them out before using them.
