During my appointment, I observed multiple hygiene and sanitation concerns that fell below the basic standards expected of a licensed professional providing personal care services.
When I first arrived, Ivan wiped his runny nose with his fingers and then immediately touched me and my hair with the same hand without washing or sanitizing his hands. During the appointment, Ivan also touched and removed another client's hair left on a used brush and then immediately touched my clean hair afterward without washing or sanitizing his hands. He failed to properly disinfect the brush before using it on my hair. Simply rinsing a brush with water is not proper cleaning or disinfection between clients and raises concerns regarding potential cross-contamination.
Ivan was also coughing while styling my hair and working in close proximity to me. I have not been feeling well since my appointment, which has added to my concern regarding the sanitation practices and infection-control procedures I observed during the service.
Additionally, Ivan dropped a comb and scissors on the floor during my appointment and continued using them without cleaning, disinfecting, or replacing them. Using tools that have fallen onto the floor without proper sanitation creates a risk of transferring floor bacteria, fungi, and other contaminants directly to a client's hair and scalp.
These repeated sanitation failures demonstrate a lack of basic infection-control practices, including proper hand hygiene, tool sanitation, and prevention of cross-contamination. I believe these actions created an unnecessary health and safety risk during a licensed cosmetology service and raise serious concerns regarding compliance with professional sanitation standards.
Beyond the sanitation concerns, my hair was damaged during the service. Excessive heat was used, and a section of the front of my hair was cut significantly shorter than the other side, leaving my haircut visibly uneven. I never requested layers. I booked a trim and specifically asked that my existing pieces be blended so they would flow together naturally.
Despite my request for a trim, I was charged for a higher-priced service that I did not request or agree to. This has occurred multiple times during previous appointments as well. When I addressed this concern, the response from the salon was defensive, and they became upset rather than addressing my concern professionally.
I also booked and paid for a blowout service but did not receive the service as described. My hair was only blow-dried after being washed and was not styled as a blowout.
I have been a longtime customer of this salon and was one of its first clients. Despite previous experiences involving unprofessional and disrespectful treatment from employees and the salon owner, Rafaela Faustino, I continued to support the business for years. However, I have repeatedly experienced rude, dismissive, and unprofessional treatment from both staff and management.
Shortly after this appointment, the salon emailed me stating that they would no longer accommodate future appointments. While I respect their decision, I also do not wish to continue receiving services from a salon where I do not feel basic health, safety, and sanitation standards are being followed. The sanitation issues I experienced placed me at unnecessary risk and demonstrated a failure to follow proper hygiene and infection-control practices expected in a professional salon environment. read more
