Best authentic dim sum place I have ever encountered! I come here almost everytime when going through Ottawa. Having basically grown up going to this restaurant. I can confidently say that the food has remained consistent and amazing. The staff are friendly and professional, and the overall restaurant is well kept. The food is always hot and flavourful. read more

The food is alright. Nothing special. They lack a lot of main dishes that most dim sum locations, so it was a disappointment. Their chili oil is insanely spicy but good! It's different. They did not have the sweet tofu dessert! I'm not sure if they just didn't have it that day or they don't have it at all but wow, a dim sum without that is weird. The service is slightly better than most. read more

Food is fresh and delicious; the Dim Sim us quite plentiful. It's a busy place on the weekend. On the weekends, you can have Dim Sum and order from the menu, which makes for a good variety of food. Not too pricey, lots of tables, great for families and large groups. We will come back again. read more

Yangtze - Very busy for Sunday brunch - Dim Sum Near Me - Ottawa, Ontario

I come here pretty often and will continue to. The food is great and service is fast. I've attached probably tried half their menu and never been disapointed. I absolutely recommend the seafood soup, it is amazing. If I had just one comment it would be that they should mix up their staff a bit. Nothing wrong with them but it would be nice to see some young ones working with the experienced ones. There is a lack if general energy because of this. Otherwise, great place for a date read more

Considering the good reviews, I can only think that I just chose the bad dishes. Fried rice? Egg plant? I cannot understand how come those basic dishes could be that bad. Dim sum dishes were okay but not great. The manager had a very inappropriate and rude attitude. She said it was the way they cooked the dishes. The only good thing here was their tea. read more

Pretty great dim sum, for Ottawa it's probably your best bet. Large restaurant, I've heard it can be busy but I've never had to wait - plus they actually take reservations so you can avoid waiting if you plan in advance. My only complaint is if you come later in the day (we came at 1:30) a lot of the best options from the morning run out. However they still let you order off the a la carte menu specialty items so don't fret if you don't see something you want on the carts. read more

Overall, food was good, but nothing surprisingly good. Definitely recommend the gai lan which you need to order separately Service was very good Price was great Quick enough that you can get back to work in an hour read more

Don't eat here. Okay... Service: absolute piece of shiat. Our waiter didnt bring us our ordered drinks at all until we had to ask after about 30 minutes. And they were barely cold. My dish was brought out 10 minutes before my boyfriends. Food: meh... We ordered- A pork spring roll each- My spring roll was cold on the inside. Like frozen cold. Yankzte fried rice- massive serving size I will say that much. Even my hungry boyfriend couldn't finish it. But it was just fried rice, not hard to get wrong BBQ pork noodle soup- meat was okay. Noodles still formed together in the shape of a square and tasted like jelly. Total bill was only $30 and portions were large. But I would have preferred half the size and twice to quality and maybe then I would have been able to enjoy my dinner in Chinatown. Wouldn't eat here again. read more

Had high hopes as I've heard great things, but unfortunately the service for dim sum wasn't the greatest (lunch time). We had to ask for the carts to come to our table as they seemed to only be circling the outside of the room. Personally had to ask a waitress for items we wanted to order as every cart that came around seemed to be the same items and no diversity in the plates. No water was served until asked and a lot of items we order from other restaurants were not made here. Food did taste great but probably wouldn't go back due to service. read more

Ordered dim sum after hours and it was delicious! Also ordered off the menu and a few things that weren't on the menu but they made for us anyway! Great authentic Chinese food. read more

Yangtze - Dim Sum Near Me - Ottawa, Ontario

It was really hard to review this, in ottawa terms this is a 4 star rating but if I was in a large Asian community such as SF or LA this place would be a 2 star at that. Sadly, this is the best Chinese food in Ottawa. The food is expensive (25-30 a person) GET me out of OTTAWA! I need some REAL Asian food! read more

This is the best Dim Sum you will ever taste in your life...I guarantee you, that you will just want to keep eating because the food is so good. I have gone their with my friends and their 8 children and we have such a good time it is incredible. There is nothing like Dim Sum, anywhere! read more

The food is incredible. I've eaten here easily 50 times over the last 25 years and have NEVER been disappointed. You may not get a lot of smiles from the staff but the food and reasonable price make up for that. Dim sum is fantastic for a quick lunch (in and out in 20 min ususally). It's a popular place so expect to wait for a table on special occasions (e.g. father's day we waited 45min for a table but the entire group of 8 was happy we did when the food arrived). read more

I've been here twice and I've found the food to be satisfying. Last time I was here, my family had the pulled beef stew, the tofu pot, a plate of Chinese broccoli, and black bean squid. The food was served quickly, was always hot. The squid was cut and cleaned correctly, the black bean sauce was perfect (not too salty) and the tofu pot was average. Our only complaint was the Chinese broccoli was extremely bitter (which can happen sometimes). So we sent it back and they made another dish of watercress for us and charged us less for the meal. They kept the tea pot refilled rather quickly (we opened the lid when the teat was done and they took it within 1 minute) and the tea was decent quality. read more

This was our third visit to Yangtze and we weren't disappointed at all. We were visiting family for the holidays and the six of us went there for dinner. We ordered the dinner for six. We had the Hot & Soup, Spring Rolls, Lemon Chicken, Thai Basil Beef, Shrimps with snow peas, Kulu Pork, Steamed Sea Bass in garlic sauce, Yangtze Fried Rice and cookies. Great meal. The staff was so friendly and helpful. They catered and assisted with our elderly mom. Changed our table to make her feel comfortable . We ordered takeout for other family members that weren't able to make it. We had leftovers for that same lucky family member. Thank you Yangtze staff read more

I've ordered delivery from this place before and it was horrible, however I was told on several different occasions that this is the place to go for Dim Sum. A friend invited me to get some here today, I was kind of hesitant at first because I remembered how bad the take out was, but I agreed. The decor here is a lot nicer than most other Chinese restaurants, there were chandeliers and huge windows overlooking Somerset. We had a bit of a wait because it was packed but we were seated after about 15 minutes. I've had dim sum at a few restaurants, some of them have a list you check off and then they make your food to order, and others have carts that come by and ask what you want. Yangtze is the second one, there were carts constantly circling by. I don't know any of the Chinese names for these dishes so I apologize. I ordered a bubble tea and we started off with an eggplant stuffed with chicken. I wasn't a huge fan but I'm not big on eggplant, we also got 3 different types of pork rolls, shrimp and beef rolls with soy sauce, shrimp and pork spring rolls, shrimp dumplings, spicy deep fried squid, and Singapore noodles. I enjoyed all of it besides the eggplant and the beef rolls with soy sauce, my favorite being the steamed bbq pork rolls, they're absolutely delicious, I also enjoyed the Singapore noodles. The portions were pretty generous for Dim Sum and we had a lot of leftovers. However the bubble tea was terrible and pretty expensive at that. I had a lot of fun, it's always fun to see what each cart is carrying and to try new things. However it is a bit pricey, it was $68 for 3 people and we didn't get that much, I recall paying about $15 per person elsewhere. I can't recommend their take out but their dim sum was some of the best I've had. read more

Haven't been back to this Dim Sum place in over 14 years, but as I recall, the Dimsum was fantastic. Pretty authentic dishes, and one of the best Dim sum place in Ottawa. The asian competition in Ottawa is somewhat limited, so this definitely is a front runner for best Chinese food in town. The decor is pretty nice for a Chinese restaurant, and is located on the 2nd floor of the building. Food is served fresh, you won't get cold dim sum dishes. The Chef definitely knows what they are doing. read more

The decor is old and the place is really dimly lit which makes it look dirty and old. The food is mediocre compared to what we have in Toronto, and the service is very poor. The waitresses are rushed and inattentive and the lady manager is very arrogant and rude and doesn't care about the well-being of her customers at all!! Do not waste your money here!! read more

The GOAT. When my family and I come here we usually get the "Dinner for six". From my multiple experiences here the food is always great as well as the service. There can be at times where the service is lacking but that is typically due to their busyness. read more

Went to Ottawa during Winterlude and found this place is Ottawa's Chinatown area. This place was very busy which is a good sign. I wasn't expecting anything but average chinese food. This place named after the Yangtze river took my taste buds on a trip through the core of chinese cuisine...the dim sum is especially memorable and the Shanghai noodles ....Awesome! Cant wait to get back to Yangtze for some of those steamed pork dumplings! read more

Not sure what happened the first time I was here, but the second time was MUCH better. The food was tasty and the bill was very inexpensive. Service still wasn't fantastic, but the experience was good enough to upgrade my rating. read more

I've never come here for dim sum, but the dinner menu is excellent. Prices are reasonable, service is fast, and the food is among the best Chinese food I've had in Canada - try the hot and soup soup or the General Tao chicken (one dish I still miss since going vegetarian). Big tables are available for groups. Be warned that many weddings, events, and tour groups are hosted here so I do recommend calling ahead for a reservation. read more

Friday was the last day of my stay in Ottawa, so being Chinese, my sister and I had to check out Chinatow (dont blink because you'll miss it!). We have heard that The Yangtze is the best dimsum place in Ottawa so decided to try it. Coming from Richmond Hill, Ontario, it is very hard to compare dimsum from other cities and unfortunately, this meal was a disappointment. My usual favorites are shrimp in rice rolls and peanut and chives steamed dumplings. At the Yangtze, the shrimps were small and overcooked, resulting in shrimps that were hard to chew and lacking in flavour. Extra sauce didnt help. The chives and peanut dumplings were of a brownish color and the skin didnt have the chewy texture but flaked apart. Unfortuntely we also ordered stuff bean curd which had to be returned as they were sour. The rest of the dishes were meh...perhaps the chefs should visit the restaurants in Richmond hill to compare - may I suggest Premiere Ball Room as an example. We had 12 dishes and the bill came to about $60 which is pricey for the quality of food. I dont mind paying for "good" calories; but paying for "bad" calories really gets my goat! One minor saving grace was the servers. We had two who were quite attentive and helpful; the rest of the staff were your typical Chinese servers; the ones who feel like they are doing you favors for eating at their restaurant. Definately would not return to this establishment. read more

Yangtze - Bad calories from Yangtze - Dim Sum Near Me - Ottawa, Ontario

One of my favourite restaurants in town. Every time I go the food is excellent. The lunch time Dim Sum is my favourite by far. Peanut dumplings, salt & pepper squid, pot stickers, ginger squid, and so many dumplings. Best Dim Sum in town. read more

Best Chinese good in Ottawa! This is my regular go to for Chinese even though it's all the way in China town. It's usually busy and parking can be hard but it's so worth it. If you like beef short ribs I highly recommend both the salt and pepper and the black bean sauce ones. So delish! Their hot and sour soup is also notable! So many great items! Also, includes dim sum! Enjoy! read more

If you're from Vancouver, or to a smaller extent if you're from Toronto, you'll understand what I mean when I say this place is mediocre. This restaurant is tailored to a very non-acclimated audience whose expectations are already very low and where sticky rice and har gow, Siu mai, and egg tarts are considered exoticisms. read more

I thought the dim sum here was fantastic. We came on a Sunday afternoon and the items were brought around on carts. It was a very happening place but not so busy they there was a line so we were seated right away. There was a lot of variety; we had turnip cake, fried noodles, shrimp har gow, stuffed eggplant, almond pudding with fruit, and barbecue pork buns. I really wanted noodle rolls but unfortunately they didn't come around much at the time. I would definitely come back here for dim sum. The prices were reasonable too our bill was about 30 dollars. read more

A few dishes were good, a few were not so great. The chilli beef was extremely tough and didnt taste like anything I have eaten before.

I travel to Ottawa every 3 months to visit my uncle who's almost 100 year-old... n I always visit this respectful restaurant. The services n quality of food always good and never disappointed. Good Job! Keep it up! read more

I'm a bit disappointed with my experience here. The food was not the worst that I've eaten but for sure, nothing great to write about. Quality and taste were just so-so. There wasn't much of a variety of dim sum. Maybe we came too late, around 1pm but overall the ambiance was quite lacking and the decor needed a face-lift. I don't think I'll be coming back gain. read more

Surprisingly great food, good service, and authentic. Some great dishes I had: -giant steamed oysters with black bean sauce -2 pound steamed Dungeness crab -silk tofu dessert - very smooth tofu dish, light sweet syrup with some great ginger flavor. One of the best versions of this dish I have ever had. The 3 other dish I had were good as well and I would order any of them again.. My only knock on Yangtze is dishware had a sticky film and was not as clean as I expect. If they had a better dish washing machine and/or newer dishware, I would have no problem rating it 5 stars! read more

We had been clients of Yangtze for years. On a recent visit for dim sum on a Tuesday, we waited 1hr to only be served 2 dishes, one of which was cold and had to be returned. Obviously, there were problems in the kitchen. When we complained to the cash person, she took our money and was not a very nice person. Eventually, I said "that we would not return anymore" and her replied was "FINE"! This is an example of restaurant owners/workers that get too comfortable and are no longer service oriented. Yesterday, we were in the area and found a small Vietnamese restaurant and eager to serve. Pauline read more

Went for dim sum for a team lunch today. The food was good but the service was not. We waited quite a while before our drink order was taken. They also didn't do a good job of explaining the menu items (my coworkers have allergies). I will say that one waitress was very good about approaching us with her cart, but we felt ignored by the other two. Everyone but the one waitress and the hostess seemed to be the only staff that didn't appear inconvenienced by us. Again, good food, but not enough to lure me back. read more

Our family went there around lunch time . I were surprised there was no one costumer there. I even thought it was not open yet! Only a few people came in during our Lunch time. The service was so bad , the waitress was very rude ! They ruined my lunch time! I will never go there again. read more

came here specifically for a wedding and being part of the minority that is unmarried, i was recruited to help decorate. you can decorate as you like and we had the whole upper floor. we had white lit arches for posing with the bride and for entering the restaurant. a table for checking in guests and signing the book was right before coming in. bartenders were all set for you to grab a drink before heading to your assigned table. small dance floor. decent sound system. the food was tasty and the service was prompt. the downstairs was open to the public and it was packed. if you have ever attended an asian wedding, you'd know it's an all day affair so by mid evening, i was ready for bed! read more

If you want authentic chinese food in Ottawa go to Yangtze.A whole steamed fish with ginger & scallion, stir fry Chinese greens, shrimp with scrambled eggs are all excellent.Really good dim sum fill out a great menu selection that would stand up even in New York 's Chinatown. The staff is good and quite helpful (if you ask). The place is large & the decor is pretty good....remember,this is Ottawa and the choices are more limited than other Canadian cities. Lastly, there are lots of Chinese people eating here and thats the best guarantee for a good & authentic meal. Alan (from New York) read more
