Yami is state-of-the-art Korean BBQ. I'm talking LED lights, extendible extractor hose fans and novelty call buttons to summon the waiters. It's slick, modern and very good. And unlike many of New Malden's more traditional Korean restaurants it's also open on Sunday nights. It's where on a cold Feb Sunday night my wife, myself and Monica Y ate a real meat feast with beer, sides and appetisers for £60 total. We plumped for the BBQ set menu #1 which could easily have filled four or five, but instead ate it all for ourselves. Fatty pork, bacon, prime rib cut from the bone in front of us and sesame-covered steak. We matched it with wonderful pot-stickers and some fried soft tofu that would embarrass most Japanese attempts. Are you salivating yet? Despite the techno extractor hoses and our own best attempts, we still left stinking of sizzling meats and our clothes are now awaiting washing. Such is the sacrifice of good Korean BBQ. Yami is a good stop in New Malden for Korean BBQ, and the hordes of young fashion-following Koreans there will back me up. The menu isn't particularly diverse or interesting but everything is done well.

Consider Yami as the best of New Malden's Korean hot spots. Its easy to find on the high street and has an array of options that you can enjoy at a leisurely pace. Note well: leisurely pace. It has this home like feel and there is never any pressure to leave because its got quite a lazy and easy going atmosphere. The beef ribs have to be the go to dish - they make it in front of you on a hotplate - combine it with lettuce and rice with some of the sauces and you're in business. Great food + great atmosphere + easy to find = 5 stars.

Great service but otherwise a fairly pedestrian experience. Was expecting so much more and it wasn't that cheap either. The marinated beef was really good, shame we didn't want to pay the extra £1.90 for lettuce leaves to go with them. I like good value and I wouldn't be happy with that anywhere in central London and certainly not in New Malden! If you are in the area and want Korean food then go ahead, enjoy but don't expect to be wowed.

Friendly service , tasty food. Bim bim bap didn't come in a stone bowl which was a disappointment , but may be that's and additional request. But the chicken soup certainly came out in a hot bowl and soup was seriously boiling! Loved it!

I know Japan Centre has similar quality but the price point is not always right. Chinatown is good for some things (fresh veggies, fresh rice noodle rolls, ramen, etc.) but it's hard to beat the selection at H-Mart. There is good lighting and sufficient aisle space so carts going in opposite directions don't have to awkwardly back out of the aisle so the opposing cart can go first (kind of like the naughty London roads!) - in most grocery stores in Chinatown, you are elbow to elbow with someone else trying to get a damn jar of Hoisin sauce in your overflowing basket. Customer service is lacking, especially when something is out of stock and no one in the store seems to know what is going on or when they will get more. Aside from the cashiers, most people working the floor do not speak English very well. The employees are mainly Korean and Chinese. However, most items are translated to English on labels and signage. I will continue to shop here for quality groceries and I hope they open more locations so that it is easily assessable to more people in London.

Oh, and it is a drive-thru one, just off the A3, and it's open 7am-midnight! Woowee. I have never driven-thru, always fancied sitting in one of their cosy booths and contemplating which doughnuts to take home with me for later. This is always a good way to finish off a night! After looking at the windows of several Korean restaurants on Burlington Road, I settled on Me You as having the best local reviews up in the window. The atmosphere was like a local family restaurant with no rush to turn tables over. Although the waitresses didn't speak good English, I was eventually able to get the advice I was seeking on the food. It helped that the menu had a picture of every dish available. I was also impressed that the waitress taking my order gently suggested that 3 dishes might be too much for even a greedy pig like me! And she was right as the portions were big. I started with the Haemul Pajeon (Korean Seafood Pancake). This was lovely - crispy on the outside with small bits of seafood and spring onion. I also had a bowl of seafood with noodles in a spicy soup - I think it was called koppongi. I was startled to find not just a mussel in its shell but also whelks still in their shell in the soup - proves that the seafood was fresh and not frozen! The soup was spicy enough to wake up the tastebuds I'm starting to get a feel for Korean food after a few visits to Korean restaurants. Their food philosophy is the opposite to the Japanese, which rely on few flavours and ingredients but each flavour is distinct and obvious. On the other hand, Korean food is a whole melange of everything thrown together - meat, seafood, vegetables, flavourings. Even bibimbap, which is served with all the ingredients in separate piles in the bowl, must be all mixed together and coalesced before you tuck in. I enjoyed my visit here and have spotted a few dishes I would like to return and try.

BACKGROUND - I'm from the States, more specifically the west coast aka home to the best Korean…read morerestaurants. Since moving to London, I had been having great difficulty finding authentic Asian cuisines (Vietnamese, Korean, Thai, etc.). After being let down at Jee Cee Neh on the same block, I decided to give You Me a try, given the favourable reviews. PROS - Very comfortable, intimate and inviting space. Greeted warmly when we stepped in and immediately had a table cleaned up for us. The menu had pictures for EACH item, making the process of deciding which item to get extremely hard because well shit, I wanted everything. My date and I finally narrowed it down to an order of the large dumplings, spicy black bean sauce with noodles and the oxtail soup. We were blown away. The "large dumplings" weren't really "dumplings" per se, but actually hot fluffy buns filled with a generous amount of yummy pork and veggie filling, served with an equally yummy (soy sauce/vinegar/hint of red pepper) dipping sauce. It was such a good deal as well for those suckers. For about £6, you get 6 large hot and fluffy buns. That alone could be a meal but that was filed under "appetizers" in their menu. The spicy black bean noodles was done perfectly, I don't know what else to say about that except the noodles were fresh and the sauce was just so freaking good. The oxtail soup was not bland, but just a sip of it will let you know they have stewed it for a long time. The soup was no instant bouillon type of nonsense. It was the real deal. The soup was served with complimentary Korean rice. Another HUGE PRO - Complimentary refills on your BAN CHAN. That's right, not only did we get more banchan (the side dishes they serve you to refresh your palate) here than at Jee Cee Neh, they immediately restocked our banchan, free of charge when we ran out. How awesome is that? That alone would make me come back to try their dishes but will everything going to fabulously, I would be crazy NOT to go back. CONS - Absolutely none. I was so pleased with the quick service, the amazing food for great prices, and the portions (above average!). Shoot, even the bathrooms were really clean. Everything was so great. POINTERS - You Me kicks Jee Cee Neh's hind quarters out of the bush ..........yup. Pictures to come!
