Beef bibimbap with kimchi and soybean soup
Clèm B.

I discovered this place by walking by and I came back for lunch time with my friends. The place is small but nice and really kpop atmosphere ( like it !) The dishes are really cheap and the size is pretty good. I ordered the beef bibimbap set with kimchi and soybean soup. It was really good and authentic ( even if the bibimbap wasn't in a stone bowl unfortunately ) I recommend this place if you're looking for a nice place to have Korean food and for a small appetite

When I went to London for the first time a few months ago I wanted something different from European food and the thought of fish and chips just wasn't cutting it. I wanted something spicy so I decided to go to Seoul Bakery. Now let me preface my judgment with the the fact that I am an LA native but more importantly a Koreatown native which means I know good Korean food from subpar Korean food. Seoul Bakery felt like being back in Koreatown, everything I ordered was flavorful, filling and I sincerely enjoyed every bite. It's not often that you find good Korean food outside of densely Korean populated cities so if you want to get your Korean food fix, Seoul Bakery is the place.

This humble little restaurant

Love this place. If you're traveling and you're on a tight budget, this is a good place to dine. Having Korean food in London can be extremely pricey and this place is just great to dine in without feeling the pinch in your wallet. I've been here a bunch of times, it's a tiny little restaurant with very limited seats available. More often you'll find a queue outside, especially during peak hours. However they move really fast and people tend to go in and out quite quickly. They do takeaways as well. Definitely not a place for big groups. Maybe a max of 4pax would be the most. Otherwise you might have to wait. On an average, you could have a decent meal with a drink for about £8. The portions are generous and it's well worth the money you pay for. Cash only though. This is an alcohol free place, you won't find any soju but you'll have a good range of flavoured teas available. Tap water is available for free. There are also vegetarian options, however I don't think they do vegan or gluten free. What we ordered for two: 1. Fried kimchi pancake: £7 (recommended) 2. Kimchi Jiggae with rice (spicey) : £6 (recommended) 3. Ramyen with rice cakes (spicey) : £6.50 They don't take reservations. Go there early and some times you'll find yourself ahead of the queue. You'll be welcomed by a very colourful setting. Feel free to draw on their walls too :)

No frills, good value Korean food in large portions; a good little find in the Centre of London, just off Oxford Street.

This place is so cute that I found it by literally stopping on the street and staring into its adorable graffiti, K-pop filled interior. I was charmed by the sign which pointed to the British Museum on one side and Seoul, Korea in the other direction and after eating there twice I can say that it was worth stopping for. It is cash only, more than reasonable with mains averaging at £6.50, generously portioned, and delicious. The food tastes homemade and wholesome and I really enjoyed my beef bibimbap as well the spicy beef udon noodle soup, which as the name says, is spiiiiiii-cyyyy, whoo! I can take it, but wow, I am so glad for the considerate bottle of tap water on each table with the cute little metal glasses. That soup is perfect for chilly London days and the bibimbap is also very comforting. I was not a big fan of the fried vegetable dumplings, or the tuna ghimbap/kimbap (is this Korean sushi? I have never seen it before), but the chicken ghimbap was really nice and very filling and generous in size. I have also tried the chicken bibimbap (what are friends for other than sharing food), and it was also yummy. I also really enjoyed the Korean coffee here which ha that sugary goodness both hot or iced. The decor is cuteness incarnate, with Sailor Moon graffiti greeting me as I entered. It is a tiny place, but 2 people seem to get seated quite quickly. I don't mind eating elbow to elbow with my fellow diners and I like the cosiness, with graffiti and cute K-pop merchandise surrounding me from all sides. They also sell cute Korean goods like stationary and stickers if you're interested, just look around. The service was friendly and super quick and this place is a total find. The location is nice too, very close to the British Museum. I will definitely be coming back!

A quaint little Korean cafe seating approximately 16 people only. Seoul Bakery used to be in St Giles Street, behind the Centre Point before redevelopment meant their rent had to end and so they moved their business here. The place still has the same charm to it allowing customers to draw on their walls as part of their design. K-pop at the background sets the ambiance although quite tingy and nice friendly staff cooking behind the kitchen at the back. The place closes at 20:00 daily so come early and prepare to queue. Prices are so cheap that it mostly attracts students. It is rare to find some home cooked food at the prices and portion sizes they serve. You'll find all the classic Korean dishes here. Spicy beef noodle soup This is so pleasing to the soul. I nearly always order it if it's cold outside. The soup is spicy but fragrant, tangy with nice umami flavours coming from the underlying chicken broth. The udon was also silky and bouncy with a really satisfying bite against the lovely tender beef. Served in a simple metal bowl. Satisfies me every time for only £6.50. 6 fried dumplings. These were very unlikely to be made in house and tasted store bought with its flimsy wrinkled pastry and little meat filling. But you come here expecting that when its placed as a side dish and costs only £3.00. Nice to have it steamed for you and then pan fried so well that it's nice and crisp at the bottom Kimchi fried rice. I love the texture of this sticky rice. It gives it such a satisfying chew along with bits of silky eggs and crunchy kimchee. Combined with the mild spice and sour notes, it was music to the tastebuds. Topped nicely with sesame seeds for a nice sweet nutty finish. For an extra £1 you can add extra toppings like beef or egg. Seafood pancake. I think they had to rush this one as we were still in there after their closing time. Therefore it lacked that golden brown crispiness on top that I much prefer and usually get here. Still it was very enjoyable being more eggy and omelette like. Nice bits of prawns and spring onion to give it some excitement in taste and texture and that perfect rice vinegar soy dipping sauce that just adds a different dimension to it altogether making it so moreish. I adore Seoul Bakery. It's not like amazing food but just comfort food in a homely atmosphere at really affordable prices. Seasoning is always perfect and I have never had something I didn't like. The only problems are that it is a small place, not a very comfortable to linger long with it's backless stools and cash only too. One of the places you just have to visit once if you're a Londoner.

This is one of the best Korean restaurant I have ever eaten in! Sorry I have no pictures of the food, we gobbled it up before I could take it but trust me, it is a must try. This place is small and the wait could be awhile but worth it. We went after visiting the British Museum since it's about a 5-8mins walk away. Waited about 30 mins to get seated for two. Once you're seated, the food comes quickly and the rest is history. While you wait to be seated, you can doodle on their wall to pass time.

Beef bulgogi bibimbap with their homemade red chili sauce!

Cheap and authentic Korean food. The restaurant is small but the ambience is really edgy with all the graffiti on the walls. Most of the sprawling are cool drawings and KPOP! Bibimbap is like £4.50 with a meat topping and a runny fried egg. Quite filling and it hit the spot! Seafood pancake was £7.50 and it was pretty delicious too! Be prepared for a 30 min+ wait if you are with a large group of people. Normally if it's 3 people or less the wait is less or you get a seat immediately. The restaurant only seats like 20 or less people.

This review is based on the fact that in all its time where it originally was I never got to make it to Seoul Bakery. Finally I did, at its new location. I went with a friend who said it was actually bigger...well it was still a small space and had loads of customer messages (virtually marker scribbles) on the wall as in the original. The food is cheap for central prices which is what it was known for. I got bibimbap (beef for £4.50) while my friend got a meal deal for £7.50. I liked the marination on my beef and the salad was fresh. Overall very good for the price. If defo come back again. It's a cheap and cheerful place to stop for food on the go in Central London.

Gimbab and some fish with cheese.

The interior gives you a sense of being in an underground bar somewhere in Asia, and it comes complete with Pucca dolls nestled on top of the booze bottles behind the bar. There is seating both upstairs and downstairs, but given how crazy it gets, if you're planning on coming, book in advance. I've eaten here twice, and I can safely say that the food is legit! It's surprisingly authentic given the location, and the drinks aren't half-bad, either. The Bibimbap with Bulgogi Beef is one of my favorites, thus far, with the perfect ratio of rice to beef, kimchi to veggies. It's one hearty dish, so come hungry. The Signature Fried Chicken is also done to perfection, and if you've ever had Korean Fried Chicken before, you know what I'm talking about. It's not expensive, but sadly, you only get 2 pieces. Believe me, you will want more. I can also vouch for the cocktails. Being a girly drinker myself, I can't pass up a delicious fruity cocktail from people who know how to put it together well. However, they also have a great Happy Hour with some of the cheapest beer you'll find to pair perfectly with your meal. That is how they do it in Korea anyway, isn't it?

K, K Place, I really wanted to like you but, in the end, you were just (O)K…read more We'd read some things about how K Place was doing an AYCE Korean BBQ option. It's so rare in London that we thought we should definitely give it a try. We made a reservation for Friday night easily and they were flexible when we were running late. When we arrived, we headed down the stairs to the basement where the restaurant was. It isn't a huge place, with seating for about 30-40. Not all of the tables have grills, but the vast majority do. We were seated near the entrance and heard another group come in for karaoke and were directed out of the restaurant, so if you're looking for dinner and karaoke all in one - K Place could be a great option! After having a look at the menu, we decided to go with Set B Buffet, which was described as 10 course buffet with unlimited meats (£28.99). They also have a Set C with unlimited meats and seafood for £33.99. Soon after ordering, the dishes started to arrive. Banchan arrived first with 4 dishes: kimchi, radish kimchi, beansprouts, and cucumbers(?!). Odd. The cucumbers weren't the usual pickled cucumbers (oijangajji) but just some slices of raw cucumber. Maybe they had just run out of their pickles for the day? But we would have preferred them not providing this super random banchan. All the banchan were OK, but a bit bland. Next came the egg roll, dakdoritang (chicken and potato spicy stew) and mackerel. Everything was fine, though the dakdoritang was a bit bland as was the egg roll. The mackerel was overcooked. The kimchi pancake was standard, not the best I've ever had but not the worst - pretty middle of the road. The steamed mussels was probably the highlight. Fresh and sweet, cooked well in their own juices and a sprinkling of green onion. We then received a platter of 9 different meats - it was easy to tell that these weren't the highest quality. Yes, I know I'm at an AYCE place but I've had great quality AYCE meat at Korean BBQ places (Looking at you, LA). Spicy pork, (fatty) chicken, pork belly, rib eye, chuck, etc. all super unmemorable and pretty bland. At least the service was good and our server came over to turn over the meats and cut them for us. They gave us a small platter of some vegetables to grill as well as lettuce to wrap the meat in. There was also a huge container of ssamjang, which I always slather into my lettuce wraps so that was a plus as well. We could have ordered more meat since we weren't stuffed but found it all just mediocre and decided that we didn't want the extra calories for such blah food. Sigh, I had high hopes but I think I'll just wait until I'm back in LA to have the real deal. Additionally, at this price point, I expected a bit more. Maybe due to it being in the City, they charge more? The hunt for good AYCE Korean BBQ in London continues.

I had never tried Korean barbecue before so I was excited to give this place a go. It's on the…read moretastecard which is how I found it so you can get some money off your bill and if you select the 10 course set menu you really get enough food to be stuffed by the end. As I found out, when you go for Korean barbecue you have the actual barbecue in the middle of your table so you can cook your own meat and veggies just like you want them. But before you get to that there is an array of delicious starters and sides that are put in your table, meats, fish, seafood, vegetables, rice and soups. Once you go through most of those, you meats of choice are brought out and the barbecue is turned heated up. You can then start cooking your steaks using the special wooden cutlery and cut them up with a pair or scissors. This way you can be sure you have everything as soon as it's done and nothing gets cold. We decided to go with the set menu that offers 3 types of meat per person but if you really want to push your limits or have not eater for days there's an unlimited meat option too. If you pick that one, I salute you. Anyway, I definitely enjoyed everything I tried and look forward to going back soon. I recommend going there with a group as that would be great fun and you can order a greater variety of foods. Either way it's worth putting it in your schedule.
