Dolsot bibimbap with raw egg mixed in, kimchi added, and spicy sauce on top.
    Melissa H.

With five million-ish restaurants to choose from in the theater district, I had no idea where to start and decided to turn to Yelp to help choose. I've been missing ramen, Indian, and Korean food for several months now, so when I saw a bibimbap option with authentic hot stone bowls, I decided that was the spot for me. Thankfully, it was a short walk from Piccadilly Circus, so after navigating around some construction, I found my way to the "bar" (a long table against a picture-filled wall). A quick glance at the menu turned up what I was in search of: dolsot (hot stone pot) bibimbap. As I've said before in my Yelp reviews, it's not true bibimbap if it's not in a stone pot! However, I might add to that adage that it must also be accompanied by pickled sides. Unfortunately, this version did not come with any of the sides that I've grown accustomed to in Korea, Cali, NYC, CO, and even Reno. When my server arrived, I asked her if the dolsot came with sides including kimchi and she said it did not. I was taken aback that a side of kimchi was 2 pounds (!!), but, in my desire for a more authentic experience that I've been missing, I went for it. In addition, I ordered hot green tea. I regret neither the kimchi nor the green tea--both were delish. The tea was brought out by a tall, long-haired gentleman who had the most abhorrent body odor imaginable. Normally, I can forgive a food-service worker with slight B.O. because we've all had jobs that make us run around a hot kitchen or stadium. But this was the result of more than a long shift, it seemed to be just poor hygiene. The stench was so overpowering that the entire meal was unenjoyable (those olfactory senses are SO VITAL to the taste receptors in our brains). Each time he walked by made that mouthful of bibimbap quite unsavory. However, as far as the food was concerned, I was pleased with the raw-egg bibimbap, though in my haste to order what was familiar, I failed to realize there was no meat on the number-one menu option. This was completely my fault, but seriously? Authentic Korean bibimbap typically comes with at least beef or pork. How was this not obvious to me from the menu? One thing on the menu that caught my eye and shocked me was the wine--both white and red options were organic and both were from Chile (yay). Even more surprising, the red was a Carmenere varietal--grown only in Chile now that it has been extinct from the rest of the planet for some time. Quite impressive. What was not as impressive was my dining companion--a spider--that kept crawling on the wall and then quickly disappearing behind the man pictures on the wall. The wall itself was quite dirty--I'm guessing that the employees don't make it a point to wipe down the "backsplash" and as for the rest of the place, the baseboards and walls could really use a cleaning/repairing. Overall, I can't say it was the worst or the best Korean I've had, but given the other nearby options, I don't think I'll be back. If you need your bibimbap fix like I did, it will do the trick, but don't set your hopes too high.

Mixed vegetables starter, kimchi pancake and chicken bimbimbap

Note if there was an option to give 3.5 stars that would be a more accurate reflection of my review. Bimbimbap "does what it says on the tin" - it offers bimbimbap that is satisfying, tasty and hot. The pickles are fresh and nicely sour and the starters such as the tofu, kimchi pancake and mixed vegetables are also noticeably fresh and well seasoned. However the shortfalls are the meat is average with not much flavour, the menu is quite limited and the bimbimbap is so hot it leaves you vigorously stirring and blowing on the food to prevent the rice or your mouth getting burnt. The setting, music and service is pleasant so this restaurant is good as an occasional healthy dine out but perhaps not for special occasions and is not for everybody.

Kimchi bibimbap and Solomon's seal tea

Good Korean food for a good price in London! I have the kimchi bibimbap with a raw egg on the top and it was delicious ! And I really appreciated to have my bibimbap served in the traditional hot stone bowl! I drank a Solomon's seal tea, was good and relaxing. I recommended this place for cheap and good bibimbap !

My boyfriend and I shared one bibimbap and one kimchee pancake dish. The portion of them just was perfect for us!! Reasonable price and authentic Korean food!

Average bibimbap (but I've lived in LA and NYC, had it in Seoul too), but reasonably priced and in a great location in London. They must have updated since Ada C's review, because bibimbap was available on a weekday for me. Bibimbap provides a great fast casual Asian food experience for the neighborhood.

I've had bibimbap at many places but all outside Korea i.e. Dublin, London and Osaka, and I really liked the ones here. The portions were perfect as I find many places serve way too much and I always end up wasting it, but here was just right. The menu had some very interesting choices with a lot of variety from the usual veggie, chicken and seafood ones to ginkoa nutrition bowls and even raw beef! I loved the choice of brown rice and raw egg available, and there was plenty of choice for sides. The location is about a few mins walk from Tottenham station right in Soho. The downside is that it's small and very popular so parties of 2 or more may have to queue a bit. But there's plenty of bar seats for single customers, so I didn't feel guilty of taking up a table. The service was fairly efficient and the prices were reasonable around £8-11. Overall, excellent bibimbap with great variety and good prices.

Went here as a group. We had 40+ people and the service was still great! I got miso soup and it was good! I got the dish called BimBimBop, and It was absolutely delicious. They were super nice and I would recommend it!

Amongst friends, the act of going to Bibimbap (now a regular occurrence) has entered our lexicographical pantheon as 'bappin' it'. To BAP - intransitive verb - to attend a branch of Bibimbap. The main thing you're gonna want to order is the Bibimbap. What's a Bibimbap? Meat and/or veg served in a very hot stone bowl. Why is a Bibimbap good? A Bibimbap is good because it is cooked right there in front of you. So you're guaranteed a hot, hot meal. Be careful. Stir and eat from the middle out. That just sounds like a bunch of ingredients thrown together with some rice in a hot bowl. Why is that so good? Correct, you have accurately summarised what a Bibimbap is. However, it works really well and they use high quality ingredients (ie nice mushrooms, and I never think mushrooms are nice). You get some Korean specialty stuff in there like dol sot and kimchi. Yum yum. A fried egg works well if you throw it into the mix. Just throw it into the mix and see what happens. THROW IT! INTO THE MIX! Also, great table sauces. Try a little of the miso sauce. Then a little of the sriracha sauce. Then just tip the contents of both bottles directly into your mouth. Bibimbap needs to up its desert game but otherwise, new staple hangout for me.

    Bulgogi Bibimbap

Bibimbap is one of my favorite Korean dishes and this place makes BOMB bibimbap! Stopped in last night for dinner and had to wait 15 minutes or so for a table. I was a little annoyed because there was an open table for two that they refused to give up because it was "reserved," and nobody sat there the entire time I was there, but anyways... What we ordered: -Chili Squid- not bad, but I've definitely had better at Wagamama, for example. -Jap Chae- a little soggy, flavor was more mild than what I would've liked. -Beef Bulgogi Bibimbap- AMAZING! The best dish by far. Very, very tasty and the reason I'll be coming back to this place. -Chicken Bulgogi w/ rice- very plain, just chicken and rice. Nothing to brag about. I'm coming back for the Beef Bulgogi Bibimbap. I loved it!

Yum Yum Yum. This is my first experience with bi bim bap and what a wonderful experience it was. Holy mazing. On the healthier and cheaper side of eating out in the city, the beef bool-go-gi is a incredible mass of meat over veggies and rice (option of brown rice) that cooks in a hot stone bowl as you eat it! It can come with a fried egg on top as well if you like. I can still hear the sizzling deliciousness in my food coma dreams. They serve this all with two sauces: a red chili and a miso. The miso was to die for and I made sure to savor and close my eyes with every bite that touched my tongue. I love Kim Chi so I also decided to try out the pancakes as a previous reviewer had recommended and I was not disappointed with the flavor or taste. However, it was a bit on the richer side food-wise for me so next time I think I would just order the plain Kim Chi. (But really there is more than enough food already in the main course without needing to order any additions.) This place is so tasty that I have now converted my usually very finicky eating boyfriend to the delicious ways of Korean food and I think he very well may become a regular here. I also can not say enough about how lovely and accommodating the people who worked there were. They made sure to open and close the door for us as we came and went and checked up on us to make sure we were enjoying our meal. Obviously I have nothing bad to say about this establishment so get your butt off the sofa and into Soho and give it a try.

Small portions for the bibimbap but surprisingly good and if you order an appetizer you'll fill up. I just got the classic, and smothered it with my favourite chili sauce. Yum! Careful though, the stone bowl is HOT and you may burn your greedy mouth if you eat too fast. Not much else to say! To explain bibimbap - it's really just various traditional Korean mixed veggie dishes on rice with a nice egg on top. Stir in chili sauce to taste...and enjoy.

The tasty seafood pancake; one of my faves!

Happened to be in the neighbourhood and was pleasantly surprised to find a Korean restaurant right by Berkeley Square. As one would guess, this establishment specialised in Bibimbaps; which are rice bowls served in hot stone bowels. In short, you select the bibimbap filling (veggies, beef, spicy pork, seafood, or spicy chicken), the type of rice (white or brown), if you'd like a raw or fried egg (I'd recommend the traditional raw egg). We shared a spicy pork bibimbap, seafood pancake (haemul pajeun), chapjae with bulgogi and a pair of Cass beers. The food was delicious and tasty and we'll be back to try the steak bibimbap next time .

The interior gives you a sense of being in an underground bar somewhere in Asia, and it comes complete with Pucca dolls nestled on top of the booze bottles behind the bar. There is seating both upstairs and downstairs, but given how crazy it gets, if you're planning on coming, book in advance. I've eaten here twice, and I can safely say that the food is legit! It's surprisingly authentic given the location, and the drinks aren't half-bad, either. The Bibimbap with Bulgogi Beef is one of my favorites, thus far, with the perfect ratio of rice to beef, kimchi to veggies. It's one hearty dish, so come hungry. The Signature Fried Chicken is also done to perfection, and if you've ever had Korean Fried Chicken before, you know what I'm talking about. It's not expensive, but sadly, you only get 2 pieces. Believe me, you will want more. I can also vouch for the cocktails. Being a girly drinker myself, I can't pass up a delicious fruity cocktail from people who know how to put it together well. However, they also have a great Happy Hour with some of the cheapest beer you'll find to pair perfectly with your meal. That is how they do it in Korea anyway, isn't it?

K, K Place, I really wanted to like you but, in the end, you were just (O)K…read more We'd read some things about how K Place was doing an AYCE Korean BBQ option. It's so rare in London that we thought we should definitely give it a try. We made a reservation for Friday night easily and they were flexible when we were running late. When we arrived, we headed down the stairs to the basement where the restaurant was. It isn't a huge place, with seating for about 30-40. Not all of the tables have grills, but the vast majority do. We were seated near the entrance and heard another group come in for karaoke and were directed out of the restaurant, so if you're looking for dinner and karaoke all in one - K Place could be a great option! After having a look at the menu, we decided to go with Set B Buffet, which was described as 10 course buffet with unlimited meats (£28.99). They also have a Set C with unlimited meats and seafood for £33.99. Soon after ordering, the dishes started to arrive. Banchan arrived first with 4 dishes: kimchi, radish kimchi, beansprouts, and cucumbers(?!). Odd. The cucumbers weren't the usual pickled cucumbers (oijangajji) but just some slices of raw cucumber. Maybe they had just run out of their pickles for the day? But we would have preferred them not providing this super random banchan. All the banchan were OK, but a bit bland. Next came the egg roll, dakdoritang (chicken and potato spicy stew) and mackerel. Everything was fine, though the dakdoritang was a bit bland as was the egg roll. The mackerel was overcooked. The kimchi pancake was standard, not the best I've ever had but not the worst - pretty middle of the road. The steamed mussels was probably the highlight. Fresh and sweet, cooked well in their own juices and a sprinkling of green onion. We then received a platter of 9 different meats - it was easy to tell that these weren't the highest quality. Yes, I know I'm at an AYCE place but I've had great quality AYCE meat at Korean BBQ places (Looking at you, LA). Spicy pork, (fatty) chicken, pork belly, rib eye, chuck, etc. all super unmemorable and pretty bland. At least the service was good and our server came over to turn over the meats and cut them for us. They gave us a small platter of some vegetables to grill as well as lettuce to wrap the meat in. There was also a huge container of ssamjang, which I always slather into my lettuce wraps so that was a plus as well. We could have ordered more meat since we weren't stuffed but found it all just mediocre and decided that we didn't want the extra calories for such blah food. Sigh, I had high hopes but I think I'll just wait until I'm back in LA to have the real deal. Additionally, at this price point, I expected a bit more. Maybe due to it being in the City, they charge more? The hunt for good AYCE Korean BBQ in London continues.

As I found out, when you go for Korean barbecue you have the actual barbecue in the middle of your table so you can cook your own meat and veggies just like you want them. But before you get to that there is an array of delicious starters and sides that are put in your table, meats, fish, seafood, vegetables, rice and soups. Once you go through most of those, you meats of choice are brought out and the barbecue is turned heated up. You can then start cooking your steaks using the special wooden cutlery and cut them up with a pair or scissors. This way you can be sure you have everything as soon as it's done and nothing gets cold. We decided to go with the set menu that offers 3 types of meat per person but if you really want to push your limits or have not eater for days there's an unlimited meat option too. If you pick that one, I salute you. Anyway, I definitely enjoyed everything I tried and look forward to going back soon. I recommend going there with a group as that would be great fun and you can order a greater variety of foods. Either way it's worth putting it in your schedule.
