This place is a dream, a true dream.
Firstly, Shannon Corner is a place that isn't really a place. It's just an ugly roundabout with some giant stores like B&Q, Halfords, DFS...in fact it has nationwide fame through DFS adverts. Undeserved nationwide fame. Except no...because Krispy Kreme legitimately puts this place on the map. I can only imagine that some American bewildered by London's tiny inconvenient streets somehow alighted upon this location and thought yes, this ugly highway aligned with giant stores is the closest thing I have seen to America on this tiny inconvenient island it is the ideal location for our flagship Krispy Kreme Drive Thru. (By the way, I'm allowed to say all these horrible things about Shannon Corner because I grew up round here and I LOVE IT SO MUCH REALLY even though it's rubbish. But you can't say so).
Any way, thank you to this anonymous US person I have just made up because this place is a delight. It's clean and spacious inside, the staff are nice, and they have a HOT sign. If you see the hot sign on from the A3 I suggest you veer off as quickly as motoring law and general public safety will allow and get yourself in here because, as you gaze at the little doughnuts rolling under a 'waterfall of glaze' (this expression comes from an actual Krispy Kreme sign...I don't have those kind of poetic talents) then someone will come and give you a FREE HOT doughnut. Free hot original glazed doughnuts are delicious on every level. Because I was insanely excited (and wearing a Krispy Kreme hat which I took from the till; I think they generally only encourage children to wear them but I probably didn't look like the kind of person you reason with at that point), I got 3 free doughnuts. I ate them all immediately. I definitely couldn't eat 3 regular doughnuts all together, there's something about them being hot that means you can somehow eat much larger than should be acceptable numbers of them. Be warned.
Anyway...you should visit. I particularly recommend this as the fitting end to your trip to one of New Malden's fine Korean restaurants, although you will need a car to achieve this as you're in Toytown USA now... read more
