The menu also lists milkshakes and coffees as well as more fancy ice cream creations I opted for one scoop of banoffee in a cone to take with me on my underground journey. It was lovely - good banana flavour with a ribbon of caramel; runniong througn it. They have a loyalty scheme, offering free coffee or ice cream with every 6 purchases

Lovely little crazy-cheap bakery…read more Went in there last night right before closing, after being enticed by their wonderful window display of cakes. We were served by a very helpful lady that spent time explaining what the different choices of Eastern European biscuits and cakes where, before loading us up with 6 cookies and 2 slices of homemade baklava, all for only £1.80!!! And on the way out, she offered us free sandwiches! So we walked away very happy indeed with a feast for two. The food itself was tasty, especially the coconut cookie and pistachio baklava. Delicious. Next time I'm in the neighbourhood I want to try a slice of their cakes - the carrot fudge cake looks amazing!

The Village Cakery specialises in cupcakes and mainly caters to functions although she is trying to get out to markets. She only had chocolate and vanilla flavours by the time I got there. So I got one of each at £2 per cupcake. Being the generous brother that I am, I shared them with my sister when I got home. The sponge was moist and the appropirate flavour shone through. The icing was soft, buttery and luscious. A lovely cupcake. I hope to see the Village Cakery stall at the next market

The Family Bakers offered a variety of tempting looking cakes but I was after something savoury and I became interested in their selection of boreks. On further enquiry, I discovered that they're a Turkish pastry with different fillings - the pastry is quite light and flaky. My spicy chicken borek was kindly heated up and I enjoyed a tasty and filling meal on my way up to London.

So, here is a little summary of the products here: Olive Oil Bread - never seen this elsewhere, but it is truly awesome square or rectangle of 4 layers of bread baked in the Oil, the outside two are crispy and the inside two are heaven, light, fluffy and yummy. Five star product. Large ones are £1.40 I think. Apple Doughnuts - these are sugar coasted with apple chunks and are massive for a doughnut. The outside is dark brown due to the way they make themjust yummy. Also available in a jam version which is smaller. Pizza - Tomato rich, yummy hot and cold pizza slices are available and cooked on a Sicilian rectangle base. Only £1 for the plain one which makes for a nice snack. Loaves of bread - amazing again, worth calling in advance to order as they sell out daily, expect for French style bagettes. Sandwiches/Rolls - You have to get here before 8am for these a lot of the time, but given the fine hams and cheeses you can buy here these are yummy. Then there is things to buy for home, like packets and tins of pastas, Italian juices, and provisions. These are reasonably priced and available to pick up. Although, what I love about this shop is that the family that run it have been at the centre of their community for decades. Dedication to quality and a great quality of service, they should win a medal.

These are written up on a high blackboad so that it's easy for everyone waiting to see them and choose A bit further in, you'll find more substantial food options.
