As we took the train from Slough Station to Windsor we were hoping to grab brunch, but our ticket for Windsor Castle didn't allow for a sit down meal. To our surprise we walked past this unique cronut / donut spot, and my foodie senses started to take over. We strolled in to a pleasant aroma of sweetness! The cronuts in the case looked absolutely stunning so our group decided to try a few and share. We indulged in the Nutella, Yum Yum, Zebra, and the Oreo Dough. All were scrumptious, slightly dense, and extremely filling! Definitely plan to share as one of these bad boys can easily be plenty for 2 people. That being said, the leftovers came home with us...so I'm not complaining. The fellas behind the counter were very friendly and answered all our questions. I'm from the birthplace of the cronut but I can honestly say that I'd never tried one until I went to London. I went in close to 1pm on a Thursday and they were already sold out of many flavors. I got the Almond & Pistachio Cro and it did not disappoint; fragrant, toasty almond cream centered in between layers of the flaky dough, dusted with sugar all over, topped with icing, and perfectly decorated with pistachios. The cream was more like a paste but the sweet almond flavor was very nice. Super heavy and good as a breakfast or snack if you're looking for something filling. £3.50 was not a bad price to pay, although it equates to the $5 USD it costs at the overly-hyped Dominique Ansel Bakery. Easy to miss as it is very small, but it's located a few shops next to the Shoreditch Station, on the bottom floor of Boxpark, which is filled with gimmicky Instagram-worthy food. I'd say to give this place a try if you aren't sure about Dominique Ansel, which sells their cronuts for only £0.50 more, but overrated, IMO. read more

I discovered Dum Dum Donuterrie at their Windsor Station location when I passed by and they were giving out free samples. The staff member explained that their donuts/cronuts were baked and not fried which we found unique. We decided to get the Salted Caramel Cronut for 3.99 pounds and the Strawberries and Cream donut for 2.99 pounds. The texture of the donut was more like a soft fluffy bun than a traditional donut. The strawberry filling was also thicker and not as creamy as I was expecting. For the cronut, it was filled with a salted caramel butter cream but I didn't find it to be quite flaky or light enough for a cronut? They were both good but maybe I'll stick with traditional donuts. As I read the sign stating, "Best doughnut in the world," all I could think was, "Honey, I'm from LA. They don't come better than that... Except maybe New York." While they aren't as good as the ones from LA, they certainly aren't bad, either. They're probably the only other doughnut shop I know that bakes their doughnuts instead of fries them, which gives them a slightly heartier texture. They're best known for their Zebra doughnut, but my favorite was the Strawberry Cheesecake doughnut with a creamy mousse-like filling. They also have the famous Croughnut, which I always felt was a bit overhyped, but they do it several different ways. Their Dubai Croughnut with pistachios and cream filling was pretty all right. Nothing amazing, though. Being that it's situated in the Shoreditch Boxpark, it's the perfect place to grab a dessert after binging on all the food and drink upstairs. Having only tried a cronut from Paris Baguette (American bakery) and not liking it very much, I was skeptical to try the cronuts from Dum Dum Donutterie but I was definitely blown away. Highly recommend the Zebra cronut which has a chocolate cream filling topping and between really nice (but not flaky) layers of goodness. At 3.50 pounds, it's a just a bit more than I'd want to pay but it's definitely worth the special treat. They also have a crossiant dough cone for ice cream which I'll be back to try out! read more

I cried and laughed at this place! I came in on a Friday evening when they literally just sold out their last crone when I walked in. I settled for a cronut and it was amazing. The next day I came back and the staff remembers me from the day before. He joked and said: "Sorry but we're out of crones again today". I almost burst into tears and then he said just kidding. He recommended the Very Berry for me. It was beautiful! He kindly gave me an extra scoop of ice cream for my passion and loyalty for the crone. He made my day! 3.75 (gluten review) refined & unique donuts. Very tasty and beautiful!!! My colleague tried the Strawberries and Cream donut. They do not have gluten-free options so they lost points for that. I had a bite of the donut and it was really good. The donut (aka cronut) base consists of a croissant pastry topped with a light cream frosting and drizzled with chocolate. The donut was filled with house-made strawberry jam and a fresh strawberry was placed in the center of the donut. It wasn't too sweet and was very light. I wish it was gluten-free so that I could eat the whole thing. My colleague really enjoyed it. In fact, it is on the first floor , probably the 4th and 5th store Store is small but have many many selections of donuts!!! Or cronuts. I love everything here, every single one. I stumbled upon this joint and read the word cronut. I never had a cronut before and decided this was going to be a first. There were two chicks that walked in and ordered what I wanted. Luckily there was exactly one pistachio cronut left. We went near closing and they had such a great deal. Buy one get one free! I chose the nutella cronut as my free option. Finally get to sink my teeth into these bad boys. Love doughnuts and have been meaning to try one, so when I finally did, I had to try everything. The shop is small, but the selection is unique and different. They do cronuts. What in the name.. "Can I have one of each please?". Never has anything epitomised 'a slice of heaven' more than the cronut I had from dum dum! Having been recommended to try the dum dum cronuts by a friend I willingly went down to Shoreditch (which can be annoyingly difficult to get to if you don't live on the Overground line). Upon arriving I came to realise that I have actually passed the dum dum shop twice in my lifetime and on reflection cannot believe how much of an oversight it was not to go in and buy up all their stock! There I found the most stupendous display of doughnuts and cronuts to feast my eyes upon. Like any good freshly-made food provider, the varieties available can change each day. My friend's favourite cronut is the pistachio cronut which wasn't an option on the day I visited; there were however Ferrero Rocher cronuts, strawberry and cream, apple tartin and Zebra (i.e. chocolate layered) cronuts; all looking gloriously spectacular! I bought the strawberry and cream cronut to take away and ate it later upon which I discovered the taste of heaven in its every bite!  Bringing the 'best of both worlds' together from the light, airy texture of a croissant to the soft delicate nature of a good doughnut, the cronut I experienced from dum dum (and yes it was an 'experience'), was divine. The strawberry on top was fresh, the cream surrounding it was light and airy - the kind you could happily scoop up to eat on its own, and the jam in the middle of the cronut, which was oozing out of the bottom, tasted like good homemade strawberry jam without concentrate. In short, there are not enough superlatives to describe the cronut I had from here; one thing's for sure, it was definitely made of the stuff dreams are made of as I have been dreaming about it ever since! Came here on a Monday morning around 10 am. There was no line and the girl working was very friendly. They serve Nude coffee and a donut for £3.50 so it seemed like it was a good deal. I got the creme brûlée donut which looked delicious but it was a big disappointment. It was hard bread like it had been sitting there since Friday morning. Baked not fried, probably the best motto I've heard my whole life. After trying a doughnut from Dum Dum Donutterie I don't think I will like a fried doughnut ever again. The dough is very fluffy and granted a bit denser but still incredibly soft. I didn't feel heavy after eating it, it's a very light snack perfect for satisfying a sweet craving without making you feel like you need to hit the gym immediately. Obviously there is still sugar and not completely healthy however since they are baked and this places claim to be able to control the amount of oil they are more healthy than eating a fried doughnut. Can't make it all the way to Boxpark for these amazing treats? Not to worry, they are now open in Harrods food hall with some special flavours you can only get there. Dum-Dums will disappoint some as it does not sell bullets which make the head explode - however, it is a very good Donutterie (a French word which literally translates to 'hole pastry shop'). And, just like dum-dum bullets, you know you shouldn't, but you will. Dum-Dums is owned by a guy who used to work for Dunkin Donuts, although in what capacity I'm not sure. Their MO is that they sell baked, not fried doughnuts. Health conscious doughnuts, if you will. In real world terms, I'm not sure that these are any more healthy for you than normal doughnuts, and in terms of personal taste, I'm more likely to pick fried every time (to illustrate, Momofuku's apple and miso pie fried in pork lard literally sounds like the best thing in the whole world. Given the choice between that and world peace, I'd be really tempted by the pie). And, either way, it's still loaded up with sugar, so it's hardly an angelic dessert. Anyway, we loaded up on a mixed box for a pre-brunch snack. Hey, I couldn't wait until 12:30, ok? We got a mix of 6 doughnuts and 3 Cronuts® for £12 (of the former, we got chocolate/hazelnut, banoffee, creme brulee, strawberry, almond, and raspberry jam; of the latter the Zebra, coconut, and chocolate). Generally, they were pretty good doughnuts - nice and light, and the baking evidently does have some benefits. Some of the glazes were a bit too sweet for me (the creme brulee one reminded me of toffee apples from Chinese restaurants, haha), but enjoyable nonetheless, and I really liked the buttercream filling that a lot of the came with. The cronuts were good too, although I did miss the crispiness that comes with the deep frying. I didn't really come away with a favourite as I'm such an egalitarian, but I was a fan of the creme brulee. Overall impressions - I'd definitely go back. I don't eat doughnuts very often and these are definitely better than Krispy Kremes et al. We were warmly welcomed into the street level shop in boxpark. After that we had to decide which of the delicious doughnut/cronuts to buy. We got an almond/pistachio cronut and a chocolate layer one. Both were good, the first with a very unique taste combination. They were £3 each while the doughnuts were priced at £2. I'm not sure how this place is reviewed so favorably other than the possibility this doughnut shop is just better than a bunch of worse doughnut shops. I arrived 20 minutes after open to find none of the doughnuts on display and the lad who works there still setting up - probably a late start. He let me know he'd only take a bit to setup so I gave him some time to do just that. All the while it became obvious to me that these doughnuts he'd be setting up were from yesterday or possibly even Friday. I at that point thought about walking out but figured I'd give them a shot anyway. I ordered the pistachio cronut and the Apple Pie doughnut both of which seem as though they would've been 10x better if they were actually baked fresh. Not sure why a small shop like this one which would seem to thrive off of an artisanal vibe would be serving doughnuts from a prior day, but it's a shame. Not worth the trip. We walked by Dum Dum on a Sunday afternoon stroll and were immediately drawn in by the gorgeous display case (and by the promise that there were 'healthier' doughnuts!). The staff was extremely pleasant and walked us through each of the doughnuts, noting the most popular as well as their personal favorites. Two of us opted to split the Zebra (the best seller), which is layers of chocolate and vanilla croissant dough filled with chocolate ganache and covered in chocolate- basically a chocolate dream. It was light and airy and delicious, and my only wish was that I could have tried it straight out of the oven! I was so excited to try these but was really disappointed :( They are all so pretty and look like they would be delicious but were sadly the worst doughnuts I've tried. They were extremely dense and were equivalent to eating white bread rather than resembling any kind of pastry. Three of the four that I tried (including the zebra and creme brûlée) were extremely dry and hard and seemed that they were old. The only one that was "okay" was the almond & pistachio one which was still bread-y and dry but had good flavor. Pretty to look at but sad to eat. read more

I was so excited to try these out after reading all the great reviews & especially as I had yet to ever try a Cronut before. All I can say is I was really quite disappointed. In the store they look phenomenal, colourful and appetising. I ordered a creme brûlée doughnut and a strawberry and cream Cronut. The doughnut was dense and didn't taste fresh at all the cream inside had a stodgy consistency and the hard caramelised sugar on top just added to the overall stale taste of the doughnut. Similarly the Cronut was quite hard and thick - not light and airy how you would expect, the cream and jam tasted really artificial too - nothing fresh about these dough/cro-nuts whatsoever. They simply taste like a fancy version of what you might get at Gregs. I think the dough of Krispy Kremes is a hell of a lot better than this stuff, so I think that says plenty.I won't be buying these doughnuts again any time soon. read more

I love doughnuts. There's something about soft dough with a crisp sugared exterior that gets me super excited and it becomes all I can think about until I am able to stuff my face with one or three. I'm usually a bit of doughnut purest, going for a simple sugared ring (this enables me to eat more than one!) I came across Dum Dum on Instagram. What can I say, they good me hook, line and sinker. It took me a while to get an opportunity to get to Box Park and try one. I spent a good 5 minutes picking a flavour as the presentation of each on is verging on a work of art. In the end I chose the rectangular shaped one filled with whipped Dulce de Leche. It was gone in 5 bites and I had icing all over my face = AMAZING! I can't wait to go back! What I can't wait for even more is an opportunity to buy a box for someone (or me). What really pays them tribute to their amazingness is that they are available at Harrods food hall. I still dream of Dum Dum Donutterie and deeply regret that I didn't visit them at their Boxpark location in Shoreditch more! I prefer this over Krispy Kreme (an iconic American donut chain that actually makes great donuts). I still fantasize about DDD's 'Zebra' cronut. I also had a few other donuts ranging from jam filled to pistachio covered which were delicious but not as great as the 'Zebra'. The location is tiny since it is part of Boxpark but you're just getting donuts anyways. The staff are very friendly and took the time to go over their selection. Felt a little bad that I was holding up the line but the other people were actually interested in hearing what the guy behind the counter had to say so it was a win-win. Had the opportunity to go here a couple of weeks ago on an early Sunday morning, picked up donuts here and bagels from Brick Lane as breakfast for a few friends of mine. The place was quiet and I had the chance to talk to the guy behind the counter about them and he ran me through how they were made, baked with a little oil instead of fried. He also pointed out the cronuts and what the different flavours were. I ended up buying one of the assorted boxes and heading on to breakfast. The place is small with nowhere really to sit, but then again, you wouldn't really have a place to sit at any other donut stand here. It's also in Box Park, so they're short on space already. Being able to talk to the guy (I think he was the main guy behind it) and discuss the benefits to their method over others really meant I got a good idea of where they were coming from. The donuts themselves are good, although the texture seems a little more bready than normal (probably from the baking) the flavours however are great, the fillings not too sweet and going well with the actual flavour of the donut itself. The only thing for me though is the cronut. As someone who has queued up and managed to get his hands on a Dominique Ansell original, these are not quite a pale imitation, but it is an imitation. But I will say that if I hadn't tried a real cronut, I wouldn't have noticed. Sure it doesn't match up to the best there is but it's a damn fine creation. read more

I came to dum dum donutterie this afternoon to pick up a tasty treat for myself and my boyfriend. The doughnuts looked quite fancy, and though I was tempted by the dulce de leche topped banoffee, after much deliberation I opted for the Tarte tatin crodough. For my boyfriend I got the pistachio almond variety. Both were very pretty and came to £6. I got them put in a nice box so as not to mess up the icing and spoil their aesthetic value. Upon eating them back home, both were tasty, the pastry of my crodough was a little on the "old" side as I guess it was getting close to the end of the day and it had been on display all day...My partner's was divine, though perhaps a little heavy on the sugar. The almond custard filling was really moreish. The price is a little steep for even a gourmet doughnut, but I will probably be back at some point to try out that banoffee flavour. read more
