Asked for sushi sampler, received shashmi which was warm raw fish on rice, dried wasabi paste, no soy sauce provided. Waiter ran off and didn't return. Water and soda products in in blue and clear cups. All blue cups has Pepsi logo. Plates were either plastic or China. Forks dirty and dull aluminum. No happy birthday song from chef. Almost completed meal before asked for refills. No salt pepper or soy sauce provided. Chef didnt bring enough noodles had to get more from back room. Rice and noodle portion is smaller. For a 30.00 meal definitely not worth it. Quality has gone down from 6 months ago. read more

We come to this restaurant from out of town about one time every one to two months. It is always good but tonight it was excellent! Went to Yamato West recently with my family for a celebration and we wanted to experience the hibachi grill. Doesn't everyone? One of the guests, who is my father, is in a wheelchair and has been for 40 plus years due to a broken back. The habachi is on a lower level that requires going down stairs to get to. Or there's a ramp along the back portion of the habachi seating area. Naturally we direct him to the ramp. After all. He's in a wheelchair and has been for 40 plus years due to a broken back. As he's looking toward the ramp some worker calls out across the restaurant that he cannot use the ramp. Our whole group turns and looks to see who is talking. It's some young female. A couple other people who are in the habachi area turn to look at her as well. Are you kidding me? This worker offers no other alternate solutions or help. Just tells my father he can't use the ramp. My brother was there and able to help him down the stairs.... but what sense does that make? Not sure how well this follows safety guidelines. Food is ok definitely not worth the price. We have had habachi a few times the cooks are nice except one accidentally flicked oil on my face. Waitresses are nice and helpful. I won't be coming back because of the owners they are SO RUDE! They also have tried to add a gratuity fee on our tab when it has only been 4 of us. Then to make matters worse they refused to honor the lunch price for the salmon. They charged us dinner prices and it was only 1 pm. Like I said ok good but not worth dealing with rude greedy owners. We have been to this restaurant many times and have been satisfied with the food and service. This week, it was not so good. The sushi was flat and flavorless and not very abundant. The big roll we had had an odd taste to it. The edamame was good. Service was fine. However, we went to have sushi and it was really disappointing. The tempura shrimp was way over cooked and rubbery. We spent about $50 and I went home and ate more food. I'm not sure if we'll be back. :( read more

Last night my girlfriend and I went here for dinner. We asked for hibachi and after approximately 45 minutes we were sat and were allowed to order drinks and our meals. We ordered and after approximately 30 more minutes the chef arrived. He did a great job and our food was delicious. However, once the meal was completed other people sitting at our table realized that no one received their dipping sauces, soups or salads. Once the chef was notified, he looked surprised and waved for the waiter to come to our table. Once the waiter was notified, after 15 minutes, nothing had been done. Another wait staff member walked by and we mention it to her and she literally said "we will have to check the surveillance camera", as if multiple parties at our table were trying to get extra soup and salad. It was very embarrassing that someone would imply that. Once it was time to pay, after approximately 15 minutes the receipts were brought back. They gave me the credit card of the other party sitting at our table which was not with us, and didn't know where my credit card was. After another 15 minutes they finally found my credit card. After all this occurred, we mention it while we were leaving and the manager basically blew us off and said the waiter was in training. I will never go back. read more

The sushi rolls all looked good and the Buckeye roll was very tasty with the spicy king crab, mango and seared tuna. Three stars for sticky floors, dirty silverware and seats, and sticky tables. Food wise.. the soup tasted store bought... Having rice and shrimp a very ample supply but I would rather have smaller portions that tasted better. I love Japanese steak houses!! This place was your typical Hibachi place. Soup and salad were included with all meals. There we absolutely no other customers at 8:00 pm on a Wednesday night. I hope and imagine that the place is more popular on the weekends. The meal sizes are hefty and worth spending the extra money. The sushi rolls are splendid as well, definitely the better deal in terms of most fill for your buck. Things to be careful about: the "hibachi show" at the shared tables has a fee added to your bill. Food was good. My only comment is that the portion sizes for Hibachi was far too much. I've been to several Hibachi restaurants elsewhere and never had the portion sizes of what this restaurant served. If every person gets a to go box with their order, you're serving too much food. We went to the New Yamato on Elida Road about a week after it opened. Overall, the food was really good. By far the best Hibachi (this would be the 3rd time) I've had it. The two rolls I had were also very good. But their were four downsides, 1. The overall show was pretty poor. Very basic, not really worth it. 2. The pricing... we went on a Saturday about noon. Everyone ordered off the lunch menu, expecting a 9-10 dollar meal. Apparently they don't offer the lunch menu on weekends. I didn't notice that anywhere on the menu, and during the meal, we saw that a few other tables making a big deal about their bills so they were also fooled. For just me and my wife, we walked out with a 64 dollar lunch. (two meals and two rolls, one pop). 3. We were a party of 6 (5 adults, 1 child) and they automatically added the 18% tip 4. The most minor item, and it will probably get fixed as time goes on, but the marble slabs on the hibachi grills were not level. They placed the bowl of soup down and it started sliding down towards my lap. I ended up having to put my silver wear in front of it so that it would stop sliding. If I had been distracted when they put it down, it very easily could have ended up in my lap. Overall, the pricing is what turned this into a 2 star instead of a 3 star. If the clear up the pricing issues, and learn to put on better shows, it could easily change to a 4 star location. read more

We decided to eat in the dining room tonight instead of the hibachi side. We were seated in front of the sushi bar in a restaurant that couldn't have been 60 degrees. It was freezing! It took 10 minutes for our order to be taken, after she said she would be right with us. The couple beside us sat down and within two minutes had soup and salad. We were still waiting. Twenty minutes later and empty water glasses we got our appetizer. My husband asked for water twice. All the while the waitresses reached across us to get the sushi from the bar. Yes, over our backs to get the stuff. About 40 minutes into our meal we got our food. I literally ate 5 bites of my chicken fried rice and was done. My husband had zesty chicken and he enjoyed it. Decent sushi and hibachi for Lima Ohio. I have eaten here quite a bit for the sushi it takes care of the craving now and again. I have had better hibachi experiences. The temperature in the restaurant is freezing in the summer months so bring a jacket. The service is ok, but the prices are on the high end for what you get. There are no sushi roll specials at any point during the week which is unusual as most Japanese steakhouses have them during happy hour. Some of the worst service I've ever had. I'm always trying to give this place another chance but time after time the service continues to crumble. Last time they weren't busy when we arrived so we ordered pretty quick (sushi rolls) and after about 20 min I received my plate, after waiting another 30 min my girlfriend still ha sent gotten her roll. The server would come by about ever 5-10 min telling us "it was coming right up" and it would only be a second. After saying something to the manager we got our roll in about 5 min and got it to go. Go here for hibachi occasionally. It's always entertaining and the food is 10/10. I can't speak for the steak, chicken, or shrimp as I only get the vegetable dish but every time I get it, it's so good. I get it as takeout a lot of the time when I don't feel like going in and eating. When I order it to go it's just as good as when I sit down and eat in the restaurant. The portion sizes are consistent and large as well. The sushi, however, isn't the greatest. That's not to say it's bad, but the flavor is a bit bland. Sometimes the fish isn't the freshest, either. Overall I wouldn't go if you're looking for sushi alone but everything else is great! read more

First off, this was my favorite sushi place in the area but the past few visits have been less than impressive. On my prior visit the salmon was so fishy we had to send it back. They didn't contest it at all because they were fully aware of the condition of the sushi. Of course they didn't make us pay for it, but it ruined the dining experience. Tonight's visit we witnessed the manager arguing with a waitress, the waitress was very calm and trying to difuse the situation but the manager kept going. Then when we placed our order our waitress came back and was visibly shaken and said we couldn't get our rolls soy wrapped. We questioned why and the waitress asked for a few minuets to go talk to the chef. She came back and said we could get them as ordered. The chef apparently didnt want to use soy wrap and told our waitress no. Our waitress is doing a great job, but they have some serious issues with the management in this place. I won't be back, due to the chef saying no to a simple request and the way the manager interacts with his employees. read more

Went here for hibachi to celebrate my birthday with family. Ordered the Japanese spring rolls as an appetizer and they were delicious (+Vegetarian!) with a yummy sweet&sour sauce. I got vegetable hibachi while everyone else ordered meats or fish. The chef was absolutely hilarious and extremely entertaining even drawing me a heart & writing the age I was turning with egg-super cool and very sweet! The food was of course very yummy serving everyone soup, salad, rice, noodles, vegetables (and a shrimp appetizer for the non vegetarians) the people I was with said the chicken and scallops were very delicious and I thought the vegetables were really good as well. The only reason I can't give them 5 stars is because the chef (with prior knowledge of there being a vegatarian at the table) did use the same spatula to cook the meat and vegtables so my veggies ended up being touched by raw meat multiple times during the cooking process. They also use TONS of butter and oil, but that's to be expected of hibachi. Other then that I would recommend this place for good food and a great show :) read more

The Steak and Scallops are very good. The amount of food is very good also. My wife and I usually have enough to take home and I have lunch on two days. Try the hot saki for something different.
