Got delivery from Yamada via Uber Eats while staying at a nearby hotel. Lucky Girl was tasty and I also got the tropical roll (they use fake crab in it and a weird sauce that seems like bottled Italian Dressing). Also an $8 order (2 pieces) of salmon nigiri - very frsh and yummy. Next time I will get plain nigiri or sashimi and I would get the Lucky Girl again but with less sauce. read more

The Combo is a great deal, since you get sushi, sashimi, and nigiri pieces all in one! The special rolls are also great too - my favorite being the Lucky Girl. We also enjoyed classics like the Spicy Tuna roll which had fun crunchies. read more

We ordered lunch here for pick up on a Thursday afternoon. They only have street parking available, since it's on the main street and it was just after a snowstorm, so you can imagine how that situation was. Luckily, my sister was with me and she was able to just run down and grab the food. We ordered a few of the basic roll lunch specials to share. There aren't that many options to choose from. Some of the ones we got were California, shrimp tempura, salmon, tuna, eel, and spicy salmon. None of it was very good. There was way too much rice. The "spicy salmon" wasn't the traditional sushi takeout spicy salmon, but rather a roll of salmon slices, and globs of spicy mayo blobbed on top. Lunch specials come with a miso soup but that wasn't very good either. There are lots of better sushi takeout spots in Rutherford. Skip Yamada. read more

My son and I come here frequently for the fresh sushi. The service is always so pleasant and it's typically not crowded when we come. There is a lot of take out and deliveries so we know it's pretty popular. The ambiance is simple but clean. Great place to grab a quick bite! read more

Excellent service. At here four days in a row while attending an event. The food was awesome, 10/10 will come back when I'm in town again.

Nice little sushi spot. I usually come here when my sister is in town and we want to be in and out. They have good options and the sushi is fresh. read more

My fiancé and I ordered takeout from Yamada. The wait time was 40 min on a weekend night, which was fine for us. We ordered a spicy California roll, shrimp tempura roll, and sweet potato. They gave us a miso soup for free which was nice of them! However when we started our meal we saw that the majority of the rolls were breaking apart so fast and it was hard to eat them without using a fork to scoop up the roll. read more

Yamada Sushi - a close up of a tray of sushi - Sushi Bars Near Me - Rutherford, New Jersey

The sushi here is very robust and satisfying. I love that each roll has plenty of items and creativity. It's beautiful and filling and will not leave you wanting. Some places you go you feel like Goku you can eat 20 plates and still feel hungry, well not here. The service is great and the ambiance is nice, dim, and intimate. I love getting the booth by the window. read more

Great sushi place. The food was fresh and tasted great. Good service. Very simple place but worth coming.

My rating will certainly be biased as I probably keep this business alive just by myself. Yamada Sushi is located hidden among other businesses on Park Avenue in Rutherford and offers very good sushi at reasonable prices. They have a BYOB policy (I believe) and are very good at accommodating people when they are not busy. Yamada has numerous unique sushi rolls they offer, my favorite being the Jumbo Combo roll (I do not even order it anymore, they know what I am going to get). Many times the service maybe not being 100% attentive, but they are very kind and always offering more than the average sushi place, including spring rolls and sometimes desserts. Charlie is an amazing itamae and runs a good business that I hope stays around for a very long time. read more

Please someone give this restaurant a new cd or playlist! During the hour and half we were having dinner there they had the same song on repeat. At first you don't even realize until you have then you can't pay attention to anything else but that same song that will play continuously in your head for days and haunt your dreams. But on to the food! The rolls were delicious and plentiful, we tried several different special rolls and they were all different and surprising. No such thing as the same roll, just change the name and add a different sauce here. Service was fast and attentive. Pro- byob and there's a liquor store close by. read more

I love this place! The food is always fresh and delicious. They're always polite and welcoming. It's a bit small inside but the decor is adorable. I recommend any of the spicy rolls! read more

This place was good. My sushi was average. I got the Charlie Special roll and it was spicy even though it didn't say so on the menu. And I don't really like things too spicy. It just overpowered the flavor. The shrimp shumai app was good, again nothing special. They did give us complimentary edamame, which my friend who has been here before said that never happened before when she was there. So not sure if its consistent. The edamame though were very good, had the right amount of salt on them. This place is BYOB as most places are in Rutherford as my friend tells me its hard to get a liquor license. So we brought wine and they supplied the glasses. My friend had udon. She loves the udon bowl here. Comes with two pieces of shrimp tempura and some california roll too. Overally okay. I did like the atmoshphere and we got a nice booth by the window and was able to talk and catch-up. Next time im in Rutherford though I would want to try somewhere else. read more

The food, the service is excellent! This is my husband's and I go to for sushi all the time. There soups, I rate a 10!

Ordered a couple of times from Yamada. First time I ordered a sashimi / sushi platter for 2; then the second time, the platter for 3. The fish were all very fresh and the overall presentation was well put together. The meal was very filling. Relative to other sushi places, Yamada seems to give you a lot for your money. I only had a takeout experience, but the hostess was very welcoming and made sure my orders were correct. I'll definitely be back! read more

Tremendous, tremendous, sushi! Absolutely love it! Keep your eyes open, because it's tucked away on park Ave and it is easy to miss. The place is small, but don't let that fool you...the food has BIG flavor. Their special rolls are excellent, as are the classics like spicy salmon, spicy tuna, etc. Staff is courteous, kind, prompt, and polite. The atmosphere is clean and casual. Highly-recommended! read more

Hells bells, this place took me by surprise! Passing it 1,000 times and never trying it was a true sin. Small place with not a lot of seating and not a lot of ambiance. It was a Tuesday night so it was only us and a few other couples. We both decided to go the sushi roll route instead of the sashimi route. Long day and we were both craving some rice carbs. The rolls were presented nicely and they delivered on taste. I hate to say that the "sushi was fresh" because Goddamn, sushi better always be fresh...it's raw fish, for crying out loud! But nevertheless, the salmon was melt-in-your-mouth amazing and the rice was the right temperature and seasoned very well. Street parking only, which can be a pain in the bodangs in Rutherford. You don't need to pay the meter past 6:00 PM, so save your quarters. They offer lunch specials, however, they close for their own lunch break between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM on weekdays. Roll-tastic! read more

This spot is super average/borderline a little below. The place is small and we grabbed a seat in the back. We ordered up four rolls thinking that would be more than enough for a light bite for two people. It wasn't since these rolls are teeny tiny. Not a lot of fish, not a lot of rice, sloppily put together, they all pretty much fell apart upon eating. They start you off with a microwaved fried veggie roll. Nice touch, but not really. The fridge opened and I peered inside to see the frozen packaged bags of gyoza and shumai, so there's that. The rolls took forever to come and when they did, we were surprised to see that they weren't overflowing with delicious fish, but a bit meager. They were good, just small and not cheap. Usually when you order a special roll off a sushi menu, your eyes widen with anticipation since at $15 a pop they are a meal in itself. Not so much the case here. Definitely not a horrible spot for sushi, I just think you can do better. read more

My family and I drove an hour for takeout after being recommended by multiple friends. We got the sushi/sashimi platter for 3 and were not disappointed! The price was very good, especially considering the high quality of the sushi. Other sushi restaurants in the area serve very thin slices of fish, but Yamada did not disappoint in their portions. The owners were also very sweet. We will 100% be coming back -- definitely worth the trip! read more

So I wanted "ramen soup" and I yelped around my area and found this place. So I called and placed an order and they said "25 minutes"....ok no problem! So I ordered the following: Ramen soup which comes with an egg. It had a nice spice to the soup and the egg was cooked all the way....it was good but the sushi it came with was NOT GOOD. It came with 4 pieces of sushi. A salmon, a tuna, a white fish and a shrimp.....they were all dry and not fresh. Let's say I wouldn't go back here for sushi. My husband had the udon tempura soup which had a nice spice to it as well. It was good, but the tempura shrimp it came with was very bland. So overall soup was just good. I would give 2 1/2 for the soup only but the sushi did not impress me at all. read more

The sushi was pretty decent. I love the fact that they are BYOB. It is in a good location. The price is pretty decent. My friend and I went here on a rainy day just to try it out and we did enjoy it. For whatever reason all the oxygen in the room gets taken up by places like Hiro in Lyndhurst, or Nizi and Yellowtail in Rutherford but to me they're all sizzle and no bacon. Osaka in Lyndhurst has been our favorite for years now and on a whim we decided to give Yamada a try (okay, originally we wanted to hit Samurai Sushi in East Rutherford but the wait-time was too long) and I gotta say: this place is phenomenal. As soon as we were seated we were treated to a free spring roll - deep-fried and still hot, spicy and delicious. We're off to a promising start. This roll has crunch and heat (sliced jalapenos will do that!). That other roll has these stunning and vibrant colors and tastes as good as it looks. That other other roll might be better than the first two. Wildly generous with the snowball-sized helping of wasabi and massive heaping of pickled ginger. We came back for a second visit taking one of our kids that's a fan of sushi and it was just as good as the first time around. Heads up: when you see the three-pepper graphic next to a roll - it ain't no empty hype. Those will burn out your mouth. Good pricing. Cool staff. Parking can be an issue. read more

I have been here many times and I will continue to keep coming. They have fresh sushi and lots of different types of rolls. The atmosphere is pleasant and the staff is very nice. Sometimes they give free miso soup or free tiny appetizers depending on when you come. I like that they are BYOB but they also offer different drinks or tap water. Besides the sushi, I have also tried their ramen and their fried ice cream. Both were delicious. The restaurant is located on a main road so it's nice to be able to walk around after and digest your good. I highly recommend coming here for sushi but be aware that they are not open on Mondays! read more

Small, modest restaurant serving a menu of sushi, sashimi, udon & other Japanese favorites. My friend and I came here last night for her birthday dinner! Everything was delicious. You can definitely distinguish the freshness of the sushi. It wasn't until last night that I noticed smaller sushi restaurants are higher quality than all you can eat places. The temperature of the seaweed salad and sushi were precise. Where as all you can eat restuarants, the sushi tends to be more room temperature making it more difficult to eat. We ordered seaweed salad (4.95), Black Dragon Roll which came with shrimp tempura, avocado topped with eel and seaweed (12.95), Super Hot Roll which came with deep fried red snapper, avocado, cucumber on the top spicy crab crunch with their special hot sauce (10.95), and the special roll of the day! The special of the day came with salmon and cucumber with avocado on top. All rolls were delicious, but the Black Dragon Roll was our favorite. I think the sauce topped this roll off! The staff was helpful, fast and accommodating! We noticed they treated all their guests with two spring rolls. Yummy and thoughtful! After reading Angelica L.'s review below, I will definitely be returning with a drink of choice and a loved one. :) read more

I will say that this is my first visit. That said we have definitely found our sushi spot. Great mom and pop feel in comfy surroundings. Service and chefs were very friendly and very quick. Food was amazing. We tried the house salad, miso soup, veggie dumplings, two special rolls, and three simple rolls off the menu. Dressing on the salad is one of the best ginger dressings I have had. Nice not to have a mayo based dressing for once. Get the gyoza, you won't be disappointed. We commented on how good they were, usually the veggie ones aren't so good. All the rolls were awesome, cannot wait to try more. read more

I have a hate and love relationship with this restaurant. Its small, yet cozy, warm and inviting. On the weekends they seem to make their money from pick-up orders and not dine in diners. I usually go on the weekend and there's usually 1-2 tables tops on a Saturday night which makes you question if its worth staying. Nevertheless, I always do because I love the food. They provide complimentary Haru Maki (deep fried vegetable rolls) to start. They are ok, not the best or worst either just very very crispy with not much going on. So I ordered the garden salad - wasn't good, just blah Spider appetizer (deep fried soft shell crab) - delicious!! Crispy, meaty and full of flavor and texture. Yami Roll ( Shrimp tempura, avocado, topped with spicy crab and crunch)- My favorite, but its small and not filing Shrimp Teriyaki- Small portion, Overcooked but tasty Mouchi green tea- frozen solid, but tasted good What I dislike about this place is the small portions they provide and lack of good service. For the price they charge, they should give more food, I usually leave satisfied but never stuffed. Why is service so crappy if you only have 2 tables in the restaurant to tend to? I used to waitress so I know it's not that difficult. If they can improve on those 2 things, the ratings would change drastic for this place, not just from me but from fellow yelpers as well. read more
