This restaurant is seems to be very careful with it's selection ingredients. This includes using freshly grated wasabi which they will grate in front of you using a "sharkskin" grater! I have eaten here on 3 occasions thus far and each time has been a positive surprise. 1. First visit was for lunch and I ordered the lunch sushi set which came with a big serving of salmon sashimi. It was ok however not overly impressive. The most positive aspect of this visit was that Gino told me about the Saturday brunch. 2. The second visit was what really raised the bar for this place. It was for Saturday brunch and it was terrific. It came with freshly sliced sashimi tuna from a whole freshly carved tuna fish! It also came with various rooms that specialize in Tempura, otomomiyaki, and others... truly a once in a lifetime experience. 3. The 3rd visit was for lunch and all three of us ordered the Katsudon special which was great. None of us was able to finish our katsudon because it was huge portion.

This place absolutely resonates with wonderfulness. I went there twice while staying in Manila with each time better than the next. My friend Jim J told I'd be impressed. As we've both spent sometime in Japan that was a tall order. But it was met beyond my expectations in the Saturday afternoon buffet with fresh hand cut tuna, sushi, Nabe, fish, and desserts that look so good you don't want to eat them! Being able to visit here again makes me want to return to Manila just for the buffet. Try this place out - you won't be disappointed.

Very nice ambiance and fresh food. It is located in the Solaire Hotel and Casino by the bay. All you can Saturday brunch for 1388 pesos. The food is good and the sashimi was fresh. Give them a try if you are in the area.

Arogato! Yakumi. Hands up then hands down. Some of the best Japanese food I've had in the Philippines. Very delicious but very expensive! They have sushi shipped all the way from tsujuki fish market in Japan! Really authentic. If you're going here, give your palate a journey of delectable treats. Ordering the set meal is a must!!! - came with salad, salmon and tuna sushi, tempura, and beef ribeye and to top it off some delicious ice cream! - the ambience is very Japanese like, let's just say you get what you pay for. This place although delicious, is more for celebrating or special occasions or I'm guessing high rollers. A must try if you haven't been to Japan and tried sushi from the tsujuki fish market.

High class, high quality sashimi for high rollers. After all, why go to a Japanese restaurant if you weren't going to eat sashimi? I had an all things-Japan obsessive phase when I was younger (blame anime!), which eventually involved food. My family has been a long-time client of Izakaya Kikufuji in Little Tokyo, so of course we had to try it when Yakumi recently opened in Solaire. On the opposite side of the food court and the central area of Solaire, Yakumi is fairly quiet, with a nice, simple interior that I can't describe as anything else but "soothing". (Although I still find the floor to ceiling mural of bubbles to be off, but not off putting.) I love Yakumi for their tofu-avocado salad in sesame sauce, their perfect miso soup (never too salty or too much miso) and their heaping servings of cold cha soba. They also have very unique rolls, like the unagi and tempura roll, the riceless san francisco roll, just two of my favorites. (around 800-900 each... though pretty good.) But most of all, they've got the best salmon sashimi I've ever tasted. The moment the platter arrived, I knew how good it would taste like-- the meat and fat of the salmon was nearly the same thickness, after all! Coupled with their fresh, handmade wasabi, it's an orgasmic sashimi experience. (And for 400 Pesos, not bad!)

    This is just the appetizer.

Yakumi hands down has the greatest customer service in Pasay. Great Japanese cuisine paired with a beautiful atmosphere and location. Food here is presented like artwork and the waiters are very inviting and friendly. Do try their multiple courses meal and their lemon ice tea, never had a lemon ice tea served with a scoop of lemon sorbet.

OK, it's been a while since I've had some decent sushi and I was craving for some "good ass" sushi,…read moreFound It! Now, comparably speaking, I would have to say one of the better sushi places I've been to. I stumbled upon this place on yelp as I happened to go to another Japanese restaurant that was closed partially because I didn't look for their hours before going and partially because their hours we not listed on yelp yet, boo. What I did stumble upon was a photo... of Foie Gras sushi, which 1) I heart Foie Gras and 2) was reminiscent of my time in Hawaii when I was able to enjoy foie gras sushi my first time ever. Soooooo Off We GO to the new Sensei Sushi! Quite possibly one of the better decisions we will make this weekend in regards to cuisine. Service was good, but I did notice a drop off as the place got more and more busy with customers. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The server kept recommending things, which was good and bad, as in my opinion if I wanted some recommendations, I would simply ask and I've been to more than my share of sushi joints and usually know what to order. Nonetheless, overall very helpful. As for the food. One word, Yummy comes to mind, delicious, tasty, fresh-er than most places. OK, that's 7. I usually don't order cooked food at a sushi place, so my review is a mix of their raw and cooked menu. Seared Chutoro Sushi: Well prepared, well cut, not the absolute best part of the tuna belly compared to Otoro, but certainly a delicious treat! Chutoro Sushi: same as above, delicious, very satisfying for those who love that fatty goodness tuna belly has to offer. Foie gras Sushi: great cut, larger than most places I've had this similar dish. Seared perfectly, in my opinion. NOT burnt like most places here in the PH that over sear their foie gras, including Antonio's. MUST TRY! Amaebi: Looked and tasted very fresh. Color was gorgeous and sweet as it should be. Not too much wasabi to spoil it, perfectly balanced in my opinion. Oh! and they deep fry the heads so they can be eaten! Proper! Japanese Uni Sashimi: Color was much better than almost every place I've been in the PH. Looked and tasted fresh-er than most, there was 1 small brownish piece at the bottom, but overlooked it because at most other places, all the pieces are brown. Snaps for the nice yellow Uni to Sensei Sushi! Color wasn't eye popping yellow as it would be when super fresh, yet I'll take it over so many others in Metro Manila. Fish Tacos: Actually quite scrumptious. I wasn't prepared to have good fish tacos, but I saw them on the menu and couldn't resist. They were delicious. Ikura Sushi: A bit disappointed, color was a bit dark and wasn't super fresh, however, that's simply an opinion. I DO KNOW, there are many different grades of ikura, I'm just used to the bright orange color with more of a traditional salted caviar taste, this one just tasted like there was something else I wasn't familiar with. Seared Salmon Belly Suhsi: Another treat I was not expecting. I wasn't expecting a salmon belly so fatty similarly to their chutoro. Overall, very good. Tuna Dynamite Roll: For a roll, quite good. A nice filler, taste was on point with what you would expect in a more than decent roll. I forget the name of the last dish: it was thin strips of beef with chopped foie gras and uni. Quite honestly my first attempt at this dish was head on, meat, foie gras, uni. So sorry not quite what I had expected. THEN however, I deconstructed it, Uni by itself, which the uni on this dish we're I think local, was a bit fishy. BUT then, the foie gras and steak alone, darn it if that wasn't reminiscent to a filet topped with seared foie gras from Central Park Bistro in San Francisco! All that was missing was a perfectly balanced '12 Opus One red to cap it off. Overall: with the exceptions above... I will be back for more! A la cuisine! Stay Hungry My Friends

For a PhP 6,500/head dinner, I expected seamless service and premium quality, neither of which were fully realized. The Ambience: We arrived at 4:30 PM for the 5:00 PM seating, only to find no staff at the front desk and no lounge area for early arrivals. The place was literally closed and opened on the dot, 5pm! The lack of a dress code (there was a diner in shorts) and the non-festive music made it feel like a casual Tuesday rather than a special occasion. While the varnished wood tables look nice, they lack the refinement of fine dining; condensation from drinks pooled easily on the surface. The Service: Despite the restaurant being only half-full, the wine service was sluggish there were multiple times when I had to think if the staff was expecting me to stand up and grab the bottle of wine and pour it to the glass myself, there was even a time when the staff attempted to clear my plate while my wife was still eating--a basic fine-dining faux pas. The Food: This was the biggest letdown. The crackers tasted stale, the lobster bisque lacked body, and the squid sushi was bland. Most disappointing were the mains: the fish skin was rubbery, and the Wagyu was overpowered by an overly tangy sauce. Even the desserts felt repetitive in flavor. It's hard to recommend this Omakase when the execution doesn't match the price point.

Japanese resto on the third or fourth floor of this mall and the place is similar to a small sushi place here in Toronto with only about 10-15 tables that extend inside the mall so you can 'people watch' while you munch on some fresh well-handled ingredients. The chicken teriyaki dinner was served on a bed of fresh leafy greens with bomb teriyaki sauce drizzled on top that can activate salivation in an instant. The sushi rolls were compact with flavour and filling that is heavily squished between master hands and a wooden roller perfecting a trip coming to an end in my beautiful city. I forget which ones we ordered but we came near closing and the options were limited to what's available for the chef to make so we settled for what it is, but it never felt like settling. Service was also warm despite us bombarding into the server's wishful thinking in getting the restaurant cleaned and empty in time for clocking out. Please refer to the pictures taken as all of the above have imprinted quality sushi in our minds whenever we are back for some shopping next visit. A bit on the pricier side compared to other cheaper options in and out the mall but it's equivalent to paying $60 and on par with the a la carte restos here in Toronto.
