If you are in search of a Nepalese/Indian restaurant that embodies Eastern ambience, then look no…read morefurther. Kathmandu, opposite Colston Hall, offers diners an authentic Nepali/Indian experience. On entering the venue, your senses are immediately indulged: subtle aromas of burning incense, infused with rich spices, create a mystical vibe, in addition to the warm candle light and captivating Indian art, making you feel as if you are actually in India. Run by a Nepalese family who import indigenous spices from a village in their home country, the restaurant produces a diverse range of curries. My favourite is the chicken Pasanda, a dish simply oozing with creamy, yogurty goodness and unique blends of spices. You can expect to pay more than is usual for Indian cuisine, but your experience is guaranteed to make those extra pennies seem worthwhile.

I really like this restaurant. The food is good and the service impeccable. When I first walked in,…read moreI thought that the room was much bigger than it actually is, due to one of the walls consisting entirely of mirrors. They must polish these things day and night, because I was totally convinced, until I noticed one of the join lines a good few minutes later (and it wasn't just me, to note, I heard another couple say exactly the same thing as we were leaving). I must recommend the vegetable tikka massala - I know, I'm not very adventurous - but I have a policy of always judging a place by its massala. Once that test's been passed, I'm willing to come back and try something a little more exciting. I expect the staff at Kathmandu will be seeing a fair bit more of me in the coming months, then.

You get locals coming in for a pint at the bar which is decorated with machetes. And families coming in for food. They also cater to large groups if you give them warning. There is a good numbers of options in terms of both food and drink. I recommend the gurka special as a starter to share between 2 or 3. It's a selection of spiced meat and veg on a sizzler. For main there is a good number of options and you can choose your own heat (all options are pretty mild in my books). The naans are really good, especially the peshwari ones. No idea what the puddings are like, if you are still hungry at this point I reckon you've made a mistake with your order!!! Drinks wise, you can't go wrong with a Stowford Press Definitely recommend this place. But remember to book earlier in the week if you want to eat there at the weekend. It gets busy.

Staff are very friendly and keep asking if everything is ok. The price was about a hundred pounds for 4 of us so wasn't cheap. The pub itself is worth popping in to for a drink as it is a country type with open fire. It is located just off junction 3 of the M50 motorway and so is a good place to stop rather than using motorway services
